BLATANT CORRUPTION IN TK Corporate TK Sports Dhaka TOURNAMENT
What happened 2days ago between Lainas Sports Club vs Kingsmen quarterfinal is nothing short of disgraceful.
Lainas posted 215 in 20 overs. While Kingsmen were batting, in the 6th over, they themselves miscalculated and thought they were ahead on D/L and blamed “poor visibility” and walked off the field. Minutes later, they realized their calculation was wrong they were actually 1 run behind. After wasting 15–20 minutes, they returned and wanted to restart the match as they were behind.
Despite being ahead, Lainas did not hesitate for a second to continue because we believe matches should be decided on the field, not through drama and manipulation. Tournament committee head,Tareq Aziz, former cricket player and now part of Bangladesh cricket board, was present and instructed both teams to play.
The irony? The same batters who “couldn’t see the ball” went on to hit boundaries for the next two overs.
Then in the 8th over, when Kingsmen scored only 2 runs and finally went 1 run ahead, they again stopped the match using the exact same visibility excuse. This time, the committee had a different tone and ended the game and declared them winners as it was not possible to continue at that time.
Let’s not pretend this was a coincidence.
Opponent, was one of the main sponsors of the tournament, and favoritism was on full display. Justice was denied to Lainas simply because we are a new entrant and not a “powerful” or sponsored team like other amateur teams. This is how corruption operates at this so-called “amateur” level. I have witnessed this kind of scenario back when I used to play Dhaka league.
Even more alarming is the role of Tareq Aziz, who witnessed everything from the beginning. When this is the mindset and corrupt culture at this level, it’s no mystery why Bangladesh cricket struggles to grow.
This is not the first incident. Last year, after winning the same tournament with another team, the promised prize money was never paid by this committee on time.
These tournaments are run by people who have no respect for fairness, integrity, or the game itself. This issue could easily have been avoided as there was scope for reschedule but the committee decided not to do this and we all know why. Until accountability exists, such tournament like this deserve to be exposed and boycotted.
Cricket deserves better 🙏
