BKSP admits students in different areas of sports such as athletics, basketball, cricket, football, gymnastics, hockey, swimming, shooting and tennis. Students under thirteen years of age are admitted to class VII. But in the categories of boxing, gymnastics and swimming students below ten years of age are admitted to class IV. ng candidates. BKSP is a residential institute. Students are accomodated in four hostels for the boys and one for girls. In addition to accommodation, students are provided with food, medical treatment, sports materials and the like. However, the students have to pay tuition fees to be determined on the basis of the income of the guardian. Alongside sports training, BKSP provides general education to all the trainees up to degree level under the syllabi of public schools and colleges. It is affiliated with the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and the National University. An important aspect of BKSP is its Sports Science Department which offers courses on sports medicine, exercise physiology, sports psychology, nutrition, bio-mechanics, general theory, and method of training. Its manifold objectives include identifying the sports talents and giving them support; to provide prospective coaches, referees and umpires to impart coaching to all national teams participating in international competitions. বাংলাদেশ ক্রীড়া শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান (বিকেএসপি) ১৯৮৬ সালের ১৪ই এপ্রিল ১১৫ একর জায়গা নিয়ে ঢাকার সাভারের জিরাবোতে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে পথচলা শুরু করে। এই প্রতিষ্ঠানের একমাত্র উদ্দেশ্যে দেশের জন্য আন্তর্জাতিকমানের ক্রীড়াবিদ তৈরি করা।শুধু তাই নয় এর পাশাপাশি এখানে পড়াশোনাটাও সমানভাবে গুরুত্ব দেয়া হয়।
বর্তমানে খুলনা, দিনাজপুর, বরিশাল ও চট্টগ্রামে একটি করে আঞ্চলিক কেন্দ্র রয়েছে। আঞ্চলিক কেন্দ্রগুলোতেও পড়াশোনা ও খেলাধুলার সুযোগ রয়েছে।
