In recent years, global interest in ethnosports has grown significantly, with organizations such as the World Ethnosport Union (Türkiye), the International Mas-Wrestling Federation (Russia), the World Togyzqumalaq Federation (Kazakhstan), the Qatari Society of Algannas (Qatar), the International Federation of Mancala Games (Kyrgyzstan), the Japan Equestrian Archery Association (Japan), the Argentine Pato Federation (Argentina), the International Kyrgyz Kurosh Federation (Kyrgyzstan), and the World Salvar Guresi Federation (Türkiye) leading worldwide efforts to promote and preserve these traditional games. The International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association (IEBA) is a pioneering national organization dedicated to promoting and developing ethnosports and games in Bangladesh. Established in 2015 and expanded in 2018 under the dynamic leadership of sports enthusiast Md Al Mamun, IEBA has played a transformative role in introducing globally renowned ethnosports such as Mas-Wrestling, Togyzqumalaq/Toguz Korgool, Mangala, Salvar Guresi, and Kyrgyz Kurosh to Bangladeshi athletes and youth. The organization actively collaborates with international federations and participates in major global events, strengthening cultural exchange and deepening Bangladesh’s engagement with the worldwide ethnosport community. Through training programs, championships, school-based initiatives, and awareness campaigns, IEBA is committed to inspiring younger generations and positioning Bangladesh as a vibrant contributor to the global ethnosport family.

A memorable celebration of ethnosports, youth, and international friendship unfolded at the Ethnosport National Open Championship 2026, held on 8 August 2026 at the Russian House in Dhaka.

The Championship brought together more than 200 athletes representing 30 educational institutions and sports organizations from across Bangladesh, creating an inspiring atmosphere of sporting excellence, cultural appreciation, and friendly competition.

From exciting sporting action and inspiring performances to the presence of distinguished guests and passionate young participants, the event reflected the growing momentum of the ethnosport movement in Bangladesh.

The Prize Distribution Ceremony of the Ethnosport National Open Championship 2026 celebrated the outstanding performances, dedication, and sporting spirit of the participating athletes.

Following the exciting Ethnosport competitions, winners and outstanding performers were formally recognized and presented with their prizes, medals, and certificates in the presence of distinguished guests, organizers, officials, and fellow athletes.

The ceremony reflected the core values of ethnosport: strength, discipline, determination, respect, fair play, and sportsmanship. As part of the Ethnosport National Open Championship 2026, the organizers presented commemorative crests to distinguished guests in recognition of their valued presence and support. On behalf of the International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association (IEBA) and the Russian House in Dhaka, Embassy of the Russian Federation in the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the commemorative crests were jointly presented by Md. Al Mamun, President of the International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association, and Ms. Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka.

The distinguished guests honoured on the occasion were:

• Mr. Ashiq Imran, Honorary Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chittagong

Mas-Wrestling Highlights in Bangladesh | Ethnosport National Open Championship 2026

Dhaka, 8 August 2026: More than 200 athletes representing 30 educational institutions and sports organizations from across Bangladesh participated in the Ethnosport National Open Championship 2026, held today at the Russian House in Dhaka. The championship was jointly organized by the International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association (IEBA) and the Russian House in Dhaka.
The championship featured a range of ethnosport disciplines, with Mas-Wrestling attracting particular interest among both athletes and spectators. The competition provided a valuable platform for young athletes to demonstrate strength, discipline, determination, and sportsmanship, while contributing to the continued development of Bangladesh's engagement with the international ethnosport movement.

Delivering the welcome address, Md. Al Mamun, President of the International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association and Bangladesh Representative to the International Mas-Wrestling Federation, a distinguished international sports diplomat and organizer and a pioneering figure in the development & promotion of ethnosports in Bangladesh, highlighted the growing global significance of ethnosports as a powerful platform for cultural exchange, youth development, the preservation of traditional sporting heritage, and international cooperation. He underscored the importance of creating greater opportunities for Bangladeshi athletes to compete at the international level, gain valuable competitive experience, and strengthen Bangladesh’s engagement with the global ethnosport community.

The championship was attended by a number of distinguished guests, including Mr. İslam Güre, General Manager of Turkish Airlines Inc. in Dhaka; Mr. Ashiq Imran, Honorary Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chittagong; Mr. Kazim Karabacak, Coordinator of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in Bangladesh; Md Ekramul Kabir, Vice President, International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association and Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs; Mr. Sergey Nacharov, Attaché at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the People's Republic of Bangladesh; and Mr. Mahfuzul Alam Khan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports of Bangladesh.
In her closing remarks, Ms. Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka, emphasized the important role of ethnosports in preserving cultural heritage and fostering friendship, mutual understanding, and people-to-people connections among nations. She commended the International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association for its growing contribution to the development and promotion of ethnosports in Bangladesh and encouraged Bangladeshi athletes to participate in the upcoming World Mas-Wrestling Championship in the Russian Federation.
The Ethnosport National Open Championship 2026 marked another significant milestone in the development of ethnosports in Bangladesh. "IEBA Delegation Meets H.E. Ambassador of Algeria🇩🇿 to Bangladesh🇧🇩 to Strengthen Sports and Cultural Cooperation"

Dhaka, 14 July 2026: A delegation from the International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association (IEBA) paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Bangladesh, His Excellency Mr. Abdelouahab SAIDANI, at the Embassy of Algeria in Dhaka on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.

The delegation was led by Mr. Md. Al Mamun, President of the International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association. He was accompanied by the Association’s Honorable Advisor and prominent businessman, Mr. Md. Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury, Managing Director of JCX Group.

The courtesy meeting reflected the shared commitment of both sides to strengthening sports diplomacy and expanding cultural cooperation between Bangladesh and Algeria. Discussions focused on the growing international significance of ethnosports as a means of preserving cultural heritage, promoting mutual understanding, and fostering friendship among nations.

During the meeting, Mr. Md. Al Mamun presented an overview of IEBA’s mission, activities, achievements, and future initiatives. He highlighted the Association’s ongoing efforts to promote ethnosports and games in Bangladesh and across the international community. He also emphasized the important role of ethnosports in engaging youth, encouraging intercultural dialogue, safeguarding cultural heritage, and advancing peace, friendship, and international cooperation through sports diplomacy.

Association’s Advisor Mr. Md. Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury formally invited His Excellency Ambassador Mr. Abdelouahab SAIDANI to attend the Ethnosport National Open Championship 2026, which will be held on 8 August 2026 at the Russian House in Dhaka, as the Guest of Honour. His Excellency graciously accepted the invitation and expressed his sincere appreciation to the Association.

His Excellency Ambassador Mr. Abdelouahab SAIDANI commended the International Ethnosport Bangladesh Association for its significant contributions to cultural diplomacy and for its dedicated efforts to promote ethnosports and games at both the national and international levels. He expressed his appreciation for IEBA’s initiatives and conveyed his confidence that there are promising opportunities to further enhance cooperation between Algeria and Bangladesh in the fields of sports, culture, youth development, and people-to-people exchanges.

The meeting concluded in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, with both sides expressing their readiness to explore future collaborative initiatives, including ethnosport events, cultural exchange programmes, institutional partnerships, and other activities that will further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Algeria.
