ADPC extended its support for Landslide Risk Reduction in Rohingya Refugee Camps
Bangladesh is experiencing a constant influx of Rohingya Refugee from Rakhine State of Myanmar since 1978. Recently, more than half million of additional refugee have entered into Bangladesh, and taken shelter in Cox’s Bazar District. Deforestation, removal of vegetation and hill cutting for establishment of camps are affecting the natural slopes and balance in the hills, which in turn may trigger landslides.
Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) has been extended its technical support for landslide hazard assessment in the area and building capacity with an initial target of 1,500 volunteers to take preparedness measures for potential landslides in near future.
