๐๐ฆ THE YABBETTES DYNASTY CONTINUES! Another entertaining Grand Final Day of cricket sees Yetman Cricket Club win Goondiwindi & District Cricket Association Womenโs Megan L White Cup premiership in a last over thriller, while unfortunately our Menโs team goes down in a bowler dominant match.
With the Yabbettes bowling first, Yelarbon got off to promising start as their openers put on a solid partnership. Sam Meron bowled particularly well and was very close to getting a number of bowled wickets. While some catches were put down, Brooke White made amends picking up 3 crucial wickets to stem the flow of runs and keep the total to 103.
The run chase didnโt start well as early wickets had the game evenly poised at 4/47 after 11 overs, slightly behind the required run rate. As skipper Camilla Doolin held the inning together, this was when she was joined by Brooke White. Having basically not batted for 2 years, Brooke played smartly rotating strike in a match winning partnership with Camilla! The nerves in the closing overs could be felt in the middle & the crowd. With 4 needed off the final over, Brooke managed to tie the match before the winning run was achieved with just 1 ball remaining!
Thank you to Yelarbon Cricket Club Yellowbetties for a cracking contest and to all your supporters that made for a great atmosphere!
Player of the Match was awarded to Brooke White for her crucial all-round performance of 3/20 (4) and 19 (29)!
The Womenโs team have now won 6 straight Megan L White Cup premierships as the dynasty continues! ๐๐๐๐๐๐

Our Menโs team were sent into the field first and having finished drinks even at 3/77, our strong bowling attack dominated the next phase as we bowled Railways out for just 129. The Stacey brothers were again strong opening, in particular George who only considered 9 runs from his 8 wickets and as normal deserved more than his 1 wicket. Hugh White continued his great finals form, spinning his way to 4 wickets while Jamie Rodilossi supported well at the other end. The strength of our bowling attack was clear in that 4 of our other frontline bowlers only bowled 4 overs in total.
The run chase got off to rocky start losing quick wickets to Railways pace attack. Digby Makim managed to put up some resistance and when our co-captains Digby and George Stacey came together at 4/31 we still had some hope. Before the recovery could begin George was unfortunately hit in the jaw by the ball in a nasty blow and had to retire hurt. This put a dampener on the game and we werenโt able to recover as Railways proved far to strong in finishing the match.
Congratulations to Railway Hotel Cricket Club on your first Grand Final appearance in 10 years and first Premiership in 15 years. Having had one of the competitionโs best bowling attacks and match winning batters in recent years you thoroughly deserved this title.
Whilst the final day was particularly disappointing for the Yabbies keen to win back-to-back titles, the season was again very enjoyable and successful. In the past 9 years weโve made 6 Grand Finals and won 3 premierships. In a strange coincidence weโve won all Grands Finals at the Golf Club but lost all at Riddles No. 1 Oval- Turf.
