Fluke Board

The versatile ‘Fluke Board’ is a swimming aid, designed to promote fitness, strength, healthy recreational activity, rehabilitation and fun for a wide range of people. Riders with less water confidence are aided by the security of holding the ‘Fluke Board’, which is positively buoyant. The ‘fluke board’ is designed to propel the swimmer using a variety of strokes and body positions, thus exercisin

g a range of different muscle groups. These strokes may be used on the surface or in free diving. In free diving, as shown in the demonstration, up and down movement of the 'Fluke Board', driven by the rider's arms, creates counter movement of the rider's legs. This leg action can be further harnessed with leg muscle work, which adds a powerful propulsive force. Flippers enhance this propulsive force. A demonstration video of this will be available. The first posted video demonstrates examples of strokes that may be used, but the rider may find their own range of strokes to suit their own preferences. The ‘Fluke Board’ is ideal for snorkelling, with or without flippers. A video will be available soon. The 'Fluke Board' can be used on waves to surf more efficiently than body surfing or boogy boarding. A video will be uploaded soon. The ‘Fluke Board’ acts as an underwater wing when being towed slowly by a boat or jet ski. The rider may then ‘fly’ through the water in any direction, thus allowing easy close-up viewing of the underwater environment and the exhilaration of moving with ease through water like a dolphin! When the 'Fluke Board' is being towed, the rope is fed through or attached to the handle orifices or handles. This protects the 'Fluke Board' from potential fracture which can occur if the rope is placed around the waist of the board. The use of low profile diving goggles is recommended for this application to increase visibility of the underwater environment. Demonstration videos will be uploaded shortly. With a simple and light construction, no moving joints and a range of compact sizes, the ‘fluke board’ is portable, durable, versatile and affordable. Currently I am able to supply the 9mm marine ply version, as shown in the video, in small numbers at a price of $130 (US), plus postage. A 30% larger sized version is also available, also in 9mm marine ply, at a price of $150 (US). A video, demonstrating the larger 'Fluke Board', will be uploaded soon. Contact me on my web site to arrange a purchase. When demand increases I will manufacture the boards in China at a reduced unit price. I will also manufacture coloured plastic boards when enough people learn about the product.

A special hello and message to the people of Fiji. I noticed that you have been very enthusiastic about the 'Fluke Board'. I suppose it appeals to your appreciation of the water surrounding you with the beautiful coral atolls, boating swimming and fishing being such a part of your lives. Thank you for your interest. My connection with Fiji is that my parents, Mike and Eva Palairet, met eachother in Fiji. Mum was from Australia and was working in the bank in Suva while dad was in the NZ airforce and was stationed in Fiji, working on the Sunderland flying boats doing search and rescue. My older brother Roger was also born in Fiji in 1963. I also have a cousin, Michelle, who was also born iin Fiji. So since you have been so supportive of my new invention I thought I'd tell you all about my personal connection with your sunny islands.

While working as a doctor, here in Australia, I meet people of all ages who have pain and injuries to their muscles and joints and who require physiotherapy, fitness and strength training.
Many of our Australian population gain weight and suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and arthritis as they age. These people are in need of exercise for regaining strength and fitness and health, but find it uncomfortable and boring or too difficult, so never get to do the exercise they need.
These two groups also suffer from increased rates of depression, anxiety and social isolation because of their physical condition and sometimes because of their unsightly physical appearance.
The 'Fluke Boad' is ideal for many of these people and will be a valuable tool for rehabilitation and for the people who have become unfit and overweight and have joint pains or injuries and who now wish to regain health.
So let me know what you think about this post, especially those of you who suffer from injuries and also from the medical professionals and allied health professionals who work with rehabilitation and with the overweight medical patients who are needing to exercise.

Dr Trevor Palairet is introducing his revolutionary and versatile new invention, the 'Fluke Board'.

I will tell the reader about myself and how I came to invent the 'Fluke Board'.

I am a medical doctor, currently working as a general practitioner in a seaside town called Yeppoon, in Central Queensland Australia.

I am interested in general wellbeing as I'm sure most people are and to me that involves finding a good balance in life, taking care of the body, the mind and also spiritual awareness.

I believe that Love and light is who we are and we are a tiny spark of God and all is One.
I believe that we must use love and aspects of love like forgiveness gratitude, treating all as yourself and providing service to others to make us feel strong peaceful and happy. But there are also lessons and tests for us all to grow from while we live out our lives here on planet Earth. I believe we must join more as a world community and not let the differences separate us.

The first idea I came up with, that led to the 'Fluke Board', was to provide a ride-on machine, that is powered by the rider, to travel across water. After simplifying and refining the idea I came to the earlier versions of the 'Fluke Board', which I tested with a few generations of prototypes to end up with the size and shape of board that you see in the videos.
My patent for this invention also includes a stand-on version which uses guy ropes attached to the wrists to secure the board on the feet. The rider then jumps up and down to move the board shallowly through the water while varying the angle by tilting the board forward and backwards. I have not done much with the standing version yet but it would be harder to use. I may wait till the hand-held version earns its place in the market first.
Thank you for showing an interest in me and the 'Fluke Board'.

Thank you to all those of you who have clicked on my page to learn about the 'Fluke Board'. It has been very interesting for me to 'meet' you and see your profiles! It makes me feel personally connected to other societies and families that share planet Earth with me and that is a lovely feeling.

This video, which was recorded with the camera attached to my forehead, attempts to demonstrate the use of the 'Fluke Board' while being towed by a jet ski.
I am planning to get better footage, recorded with the camera attached to the jet ski and also with the camera attached to my head, with better visibility in clearer water and a wider angle of viewing. Until then this video will give the interested viewer a general impression.
Note that when being pulled on the surface of the water is is possible to travel at higher speeds with ease but it is not so easy to travel at those faster speeds, say beyond 10-15 knots, when under the water because of the drag forces applied against the head and shoulders.
