A couple of months ago, a tiny three-legged huntsman I named Trident unexpectedly changed the way I looked at spiders.
Before Trident, I'd already noticed another little huntsman hiding in the roof gap of my bathroom. I'd catch glimpses of her now and then, but she kept her distance. It wasn't until a few days ago that she moved into the shower, where I could finally begin photographing her. She's now affectionately known as Johnny 5 due to only having five legs.
Trident sparked my curiosity. Johnny 5 is helping me keep it alive.
I'm still learning macro photography, and most of my photos end up blurry thanks to dim shower lighting, reflections, awkward angles and almost invisible strands of web. But every now and then, everything comes together for a split second.
These aren't just spider photos to me. They're little reminders to slow down, look closer, and find beauty in places I never expected.
If you're willing to look beyond the "creepy spider," I'd love to share a few of my favourite captures.
Sometimes the smallest creatures leave the biggest footprints.
