Happy New Year!!
How is everyone? I hope you are all well and enjoying the school holidays.

Mark, Shaylea and I have all settled in well at Kirra. Shaylea is working at the local Woolworths and loving it. Mark is enjoying his daily bike rides and walks as well as all the local cafes within walking distance.
I enjoyed a couple of months of not working.

In November I started working 2 days a week doing bookkeeping and this week I have just started swim teaching at the new Pimpama Sports Hub a couple of days a week as well. It is an awesome centre and all the swim instructors are great. So if you are still looking for a new place for learn to swim classes or even squad level swimming make sure you check it out. Maybe I will see you there.

Normally this time of year I would be posting up the dates for Term 3, so it feels strange to be posting something different.

We have had our place up for sale and have finally sold.

So after 20 years of teaching kids to swim, the Donna Garman Swim School is closing.

I have loved teaching all the kids that have attended, yes even the challenging ones have been a joy. It feels like yesterday that I had just started.
Thank you all for your lovely messages, best wishes and farewell gifts and cards over the last couple of weeks. It truly is a bittersweet time for me. I am so thankful to you all and will miss everyone. But I am looking forward to a slower pace down by the beach.

Thank you to Bec from RP Designs who sourced and printed up the gorgeous towels as gifts for each of the kids as a farewell gift and a little something to remember their time here.

Below is a photo of the gorgeous kids from the very last class at the swim school and photos of the towels and the little note in each of them.

I can’t believe we are half way through 2021!!
The end of Term 2 is almost upon us.
Weekly classes will finish on Friday 25th June.
During the school holidays I am running an intensive for the first week.
Dates: Monday 28th June - Friday 2nd July
Cost: $85 per child.
If you would like to book in for this please send me a text or there is a booking sheet at the pool.

TERM 2

Term 2 lessons start Monday 19th April.

As mentioned at the end of Term 1, payments for Term 2 will be in 4 week blocks. I will email invoices out at the end of this week.

Lessons will continue until June 25th, unless we get a contract on our house that requires us to move out before the end of June.

Children who have lessons on a Monday will have two consecutive weeks off due to Anzac Day and Labour Day public holidays on 26th April and 3rd May.

Some parents have notified me of their intention to keep their child swimming with me until I finish. Thank you.
If you haven’t let me know could you please send me a text letting me know if your child will continue swimming in Term 2 or if you are finishing up now.

COVID 19 Lockdown

As the swim school is located in the Gold Coast, lessons will continue as normal this week.
If you are from greater Brisbane area you will need to abide by the lockdown conditions.

Hello Everyone.
I sent a text out to all the parents today who currently bring their children to lessons with me. Unfortunately some of you didn’t receive the message and others did. As I sent it out in a group message I can’t see who did and didn’t receive it. I have replied to a few messages today but some are not sending and coming up with a “ Not Delivered” and “Message Send Failure”.
Below is the text message that was sent out in regards to some news that I wanted to share with you all.

Hi Parents,
Donna from swim school here.
Long message below 😬

I have some news that will affect you all and I wanted you to hear it from me rather than find out through other sources. Mark and I have placed our home up for sale. As the pool is part of the property it means the swim school will either continue with the new owners or finish up when we move.

Mark and I built this home 28 and a half years ago. The swim school started 20 years ago.
We have loved living here and raising our two children. It has always been the plan to move to our unit in Kirra when Shaylea finished school. She finished in 2019, but we just kept on working with no real timeline to move.

When COVID hit last year we were able to “live” at our unit in Kirra for 2 months. It made us realize how much we love it down there and that Mark could work from there. That left me to make the decision to give up the swim school and semi retire.

I will continue to teach lessons until we need to move out. Not knowing how long it will be before that time I won’t be asking for the full term payment upfront for next term.
Payments for Term 2 will be in 4 week blocks upfront. This will make it easier if I need to finish mid term.
I understand if you need to finish up sooner to secure a position for your child in another swim school.
If by chance the new owners wish to continue running the swim school I will let you know.

This term finishes next Thursday 1st April.
The April intensive 12th - 16th, during the second week of the school holidays will run as normal.
Term 2 will start Monday 19th April.

I would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years. The swim school has reached a level I never dreamed of. It would never have done so without the recommendations from previous and existing customers.
I will truly treasure my time here with you all and hope to keep in touch.

And that is a wrap for lessons for 2020. What a year!
All the kids did so well over the last two terms after having 3 months off.
I will post the dates for 2021 after Christmas.
I hope everyone enjoys their holidays and time spent with family. Keep up the swimming practice. The more time in the water the quicker they learn.

SAFETY WEEK
Saturday 21st Nov - Friday 27th Nov
Tomorrow is the start of Safety week.
Kids will need clothes (shorts and t-shirt) to swim in for their lesson. This will allow them to experience what it is like if they fall into water in their clothes. No goggles to be worn for this week. All classes including babies and toddlers will be participating in safety week. Babies and toddlers still need a swim nappy.
If your child does not want to wear clothes in the pool that is ok. They can still participate in the activities.
We will be using life jackets. If your child has a life jacket and you would like them to use it you are welcome to bring it along for their lesson.
It is a fun week enjoyed by all the swimmers.
