Release talk.

This is a short clip from a 20 minute video made for my online clients.

If you’d like the full video just comment ‘RELEASE’ and I’ll send it over.

If you’re struggling with face control & low point issues due to excessive use of your wrists, this is a good visual/feel for you to replace that movement with a more forearm/pivot based release.

Online client with some lovely impact and follow through changes.

Our thoughts here were about changing his release pattern to be dominated by the lead arm.

Not an easy feel for everyone but lots of potential benefits.

Jason is on my ‘Basic Monthly Plan’ which includes one lesson a month plus a follow up to make sure he’s understood the changes and executing the drills correctly.

Little 8° shift in path in our session yesterday from Dan.

I really hate strong grips and club face positions at top of backswing, I think I have a little PTSD from struggling with it myself. I feel like it completely ‘handcuffs’ the golfer through the ball and the reactions of shaft pitch to make it work can create some crazy numbers like we see here.

We had a chat at the start about our options which included changing the grip or not and Dan chose to change his grip.

Work wasn’t done as we still needed to reduce some hand depth at P4 and I did ask him to try and ‘cup’ his wrist at the top even though I knew he wouldn’t really do it.

Once he felt comfortable with the backswing and we started hitting pushes, which was the goal, we could then swing left to neutralise the path.

He hit a good 15 shots in a row with a path from 0-3° inside out and no balls finishing left of target, huge win. Now his job is to put the work in and make it stick.

My new least favourite person on the internet is this idiot Trace Martin | Golf Instruction & Coaching

I’d highly suggest getting your own coaching in order before trying to slam an entire group of coaches based on being PGA qualified.

He is right about one thing though, being PGA does not make you a good coach. There is only one thing that does, experience.

It doesn’t matter how many accreditations or certifications you have, you need to give lessons, hundreds or them, to realise how bad you really are at coaching. After the 10 year point you start to feel comfortable and then get humbled again, it’s constant learning.

We have an influx of these ‘coaches’ that have a nice swing, a decent handicap and are good at making social media videos thinking that’s all it takes to be a golf coach. The client reviews always show up the real story, this guy is one of the worst ranked on Skillest in a short space of time.

Have a look a look at the first page on skillest and all the thousands of reviews and you will likely not see another 1 or 2 star review and he’s got 2 in his first 50, speaks for itself really.

Reducing the ‘S curve’ posture.

Here’s a quick feel unlike to use to help reduce excessive curvature in the spine at setup.

Benefits of reducing anterior pelvic tilt:
- Spine/back health. Lumbar lordosis (larger curvature of lumbar spine) can lead to lower back pain and stiffness.
- Range of motion. A 10° increase in anterior pelvic tilt can result in a loss of 6-9° of hip internal rotation and a loss of 10° of hip flexion.
- Engages the lower abs and glutes.
- Creates a ‘connection’ between the lower and upper body allowing power generated from the ground to work upwards.
- Relaxes the setup position and alleviates tension.

Flat shoulder turn - Over the top fix.

This is a short clip from a recent online lesson.

If you’re struggling with a flatter backswing turn which usually results in the shoulders steepening in transition and forcing the arms and club outward, here’s a drill to try.

Online client progress.

I’ve been working with Ryan for 4 weeks now, completely online.

These are some of the harder changes we will have to make, shifting the mindset that’s needed to change a release pattern that’s always been there is tough, but this is some great progress.

This started with an initial free swing analysis before he committed to coaching. If you’d like info on how to receive a free swing analysis just reply ‘ANALYSIS’ and I’ll send the info over.
