Golfers converge in Yarram

The local Club has been busy hosting Gippsland events with Friday’s Ladies salver and Monday’s East Gippsland and South Gippsland annual vets challenge attracting plenty of visiting golfers to the area.
18 teams from multiple Gippsland Clubs hit off in Friday’s Ladies salver.
Sandra Denovan, Frankie Maclennan and Janine Butler combined impressively to win the salver with 104 points from the Maffra combination on 96 points.
Sandra Denovan also won the A Grade individual event with a fine 39 points.
Janice Marchesi got the nod in B Grade with 37 points.
Kaye Irwin won the NTP on 15.
Anne King Church and Tracey McKenzie won DTL awards .
Special thanks to Life Member, Wendy Pope for her sponsorship of the day.
Also to the volunteer groundsmen , Tracey McKenzie, Glenda Knowles and their assistants for their catering skills to make for a very successful day for the Club.
Monday East versus South Challenge
From Lakes Entrance in the East to Red Rocks Golf Club in the South 97competitors lined up for Monday’s East Gippsland versus South Gippsland Vets annual Challenge.
Neville Guttridge ( Maffra) won A Grade with 37 points.
Peter Hamilton ( Metung) won B Grade with 35 point and from South Pines, Graham Caddy prevailed in C Grade with 30 points.
Local players, Paul McAninly 32, Bill Reid 31, John and Steve Papworth both 29 points won DTL awards.
Wazza Vincent won the NTP’s on 1 and 7 a fine effort.
Graeme Smith, sec East Gippsland at presentations announcing the East Gippsland team average of 26.82 points would retain narrowly the Challenge trophy with the South average score on 26.47.
Tracey McKenzie and the Yarram Ladies were thanked for the delightful luncheon , John and Anne Maree Skarratt and Paul McAninly were thanked for their contributions on another successful hosting day for the Club.
Saturday’s Stroke Monthly Medal
Jared Thomas (21) had a day out with net 67 to easily win Saturday’s monthly medal.
Dylan Rash (5) a fine round won A Grade with net 73 and scratch with 78 off the stick.
Chris Anderson (24) making a welcome return won C Grade with net 76.
Murray Foat was awarded the vets award with his net 72.
DTL balls down to net 74 were awarded.
Welles Jenkins won the NTP on 7, Bil Reid the money on 15 and Allen Baggaley got closest on 18.
Tuesday Ladies Day Stroke Monthly Medal
Linda Rippon (29) and Michelle Staley (24) tied on net 73with Linda awarded the medal with a count back victory.
Frankie Maclennan 75, Elisa Nudelman 78 and Sandra Denovan net 79 followed.
Nine Hole Stableford
Lois Gronow had a consistent round to win with 16 points from Barbara Cox 15, Leslie Trenfield 13 and super veteran Frank Baggaley.
Mens Stableford
Ian Peel (18) was in good touch to win with 35 points.
Brian Busk 34, Brendan Farley 33, Bill Reid 32 and Mark Goulden also with 32 points followed.

Yarrams Salver was held on 4/10/26 in wonderful conditions.
Yarram Ladies team Sandra Denovan Janine Butler and Frankie MacLennan winning the day ,to win Back the Salver for Yarram with a score 104 points.
A Grade winner Sandra Denovan 39 pts
B Grade winner Janice Marchesi 37 pts

Kaye Irwin’s impressive form

Fifty Seven competitors hit of in Saturday’s medley stableford and surprisingly in ideal conditions only four golfers played to or better than their handicap on the day.
Kaye Irwin (26) with the standout performance recording a fine 41 points to be declared the overall and D Grade victor on the day. Kaye also winning the vets award to cap off a good round.
Chris Buckland (plus 3) , warming up for Sunday’s East Gippsland’s individual Championship in Maffra had another fine round ,which included five birdies, in his tally to win A Grade with 33 points.
Phillip Brown (13) with some delightful stroke play won B Grade with 36 points.
Dave Blacker (24) was another to have a good round to win C Grade with 38 points.
DTL awards went to Chris Barclay 37, Corey Kee 35, Rick Minney 35, Mark Goulden 35 and Joe Razinger on 33 points also recognized.
Scott Leggett won the NTP on 1, Jacob Byrnes ( Meeniyan) on 7 and Peter Biggs was delighted to win the money on 15 and tapped in for a birdie ball prize to boot.
Tuesday Stableford
Peter Jenkins (19) and Mark Goulden (16) tied on 35 points in Tuesday’s medley Stableford .
Peter’s 19 points on the back nine clinching the win on C/B.
Mark 35, Janine Butler 33, Steve Papworth 33, Peter Biggs 33, Dan Macey 31 and Neil O’Connell 31 points followed.
Nine Hole Stableford.
Michell Staley (12) with 14 points the victor.
Thursday Nine Hole Chicken Run
Well done to Wayne Bass with 21 points the leader in Thursday’s chicken run.
Barbara Cox 19 and Eric Greenaway celebrated his birthday with 18 points on C/B to also collect some fare.
Bill Reid won the NTP on 15.
Upcoming Events.
Monday 7th September, Yarram will host the annual East Gippsland versus South Gippsland Vets challenge that was inaugurated in 1984 with golfers from Lakes Entrance to Phillip Island entered for the popular day on the golfing calendar.
Yarram Plate Sunday 20th September.
Club Captain , Dan Dwyer is delighted with the response from the Gippsland Clubs on the number of entries for the AKZ Yarram Plate with the field already at near capacity .

Great News,

Chris Buckland , the runaway East Gippsland Singles Champion after a dominant 7 stroke victory against a crack field of Gippsland finest golfers.

Chris played at Maffra today in the 27 hole Championship scoring 69 , three under in the first 18 , then 37 off the stick , one over resulting in his superb victory.

Chris with his super caddy, Tori Lubeck and his trophy.

Saturday’s Stableford event.

Saturday 22nd August

With wonderful golfing weather matching a golf course in excellent condition a very strong field for Saturday’s Stableford round of 58 starters resulted in some very good scoring opportunities. Young golfer Alan Buckland playing off a handicap of 31, provided the highlight of the day winning the overall and D Grade events with a truly remarkable score of 49 points. Chris Pettitt (10) was the winner of A Grade with 37 points, Mark Goulden (16) B Grade also with 37 and Frank Purgar continuing his recent return to form winning C grade with 34 off his 21 handicap. Down the line winners were Ryder Pedlow, Tracey McKenzie, Dave Lothian, Dave Blacker, Ian Peel, Allen Baggaley, Peter Jenkins, John Papworth, Chris Barclay and Cliff Moore. Mark Goulden also won the vets event with DTL balls to Dave Blacker and Dave Lothian. Michael Purger won nearest the pin on the 1st, Warren Vincent the 7th, Jared Thomas the money on 15th and Stephen Papworth on the 18th. All birdie balls were won on the 15th and went to Scott Leggett, Murray Foat, Joe Foat, Jared Thomas and Graeme Pattinson. Corey Kee found playing off a handicap of 17 much to difficult on the day but was presented with the encouragement award.

Tuesday 18th August

Ladies played a par event with Jen Nickell doing best and playing to her handicap to finish square. Close on her heels finishing only one stroke behind were Diane Foat, Barb Britten and Frankie McLennan. In the Stableford event Kaye Irwin (26) upstaged the men with the very good score of 38 points to win the overall and B Grade. Dylan Rash (5) won A Grade with 36 points. DTL balls went to Trevor Thommers, Jamie Peirce and Dan Macey.

Thursday 20th August

Purgars Prevail

Saturday’s competition was a four ball medley stroke event played on another lovely winter’s day with just on 60 golfers taking to the fairways.
The eagerly anticipated mens fourball matchplay final was also contested with the seasoned combination of Murray (17) and Joe Foat ( 17) up against Frank (21) and playing partner Michael Purgar (31) with each team winning three matches on the way to the final.
At the turn with nine holes played Murray and Joe playing some inspired golf were five holes in front and seemingly in a winning position. However Frank and Michael with some terrific play turned the match on its head and with one hole to play the match was all square.
Frank cool under pressure with a par three on the 18th broke the deadlock and a well deserved victory, after an engrossing final match in the honor board event.
The day’s competition was won by David Lothian (26) and playing partner Brendan Farley (16) who combined impressively to score net 62.
John Skarratt and Dan Macey also had a good round , runners up with net 63.
Ricky Benis and Brayden Askew 64, Anne Maree Skarratt and John Skarratt 64 followed.
Tuesday Ladies Day
Ladies Captain, Frankie Maclennan (25) playing consistently won with 34 points.
Sandra Denovan won a DTL ball with 31 points.
Kylie Collins visiting from Foster was next with 30 points and also collected the NTP on 15.
Di Foat won the target hole prize on the 1st and likewise Kylie Collins on 18.
Mens Stableford
Yarram has been welcoming several visiting golfers in recent weeks from waterlogged South Gippsland golf courses.
Scott Hall (18) enjoyed his visit to win with 36 points.
Dylan Skarratt 35, Jeff Buckland 34, Peter Reidel ( Foster ) 34 and Michael Peel 34 points followed.
Thursday Nine Hole Chicken run
Suzie Davis was in good form to lead the scoring with 18 points.
John Papworth 17 and Peter Jenkins 17 points on C/B also won some fare.

Bumper Field for Par

Saturday’s competition was individual par with 70 players hitting off on a stunning winter’s day. The Club welcoming several golfers from Meeniyan, Foster, Woorayl and Riversdale, as the South Gippsland clubs in particular contend with soggy fairways and greens , following recent persistent rain.
Allen Baggaley (15) had a day out scoring plus 7 ,to be announced as the overall and B Grade victor, following his handicap trimming round.
Woorayl’s , Damien Symonds (1) with five birdies in his impressive round ,winning A Grade with plus 3.
Brian Irving (23) visiting from Meeniyan got the nod in C Grade with a score of minus 1.
Frankie Maclennan (25) playing to her handicap with a score of square ,won the D Grade award.
DTL awards went to Ignatius Duivenvoorden and Jamie Peirce both on plus1. David Cooper, Mark Goulden, Dylan Rash, Chris Buckland and Chris Pettitt all on square. Then Dean Summerfield, Murray Foat and Scott Leggett all on minus 1 also recognized.
David Cooper won the NTP on 1, Scott Leggett 7, Meeniyan Club Captain, Matt Van Boven the money on 15 and Alan Muhanad got closest on 18 with a lovely shot.
Allen Baggaley with his stellar plus 7 also won the vets and Jamie Peirce and Mark Goulden winning DTL balls.
Birde ball awards on the par threes went to Mark Goulden 15, Dylan Rash 7 and Scott Leggett also got down in two on 7 to be recognized.
Tuesday Ladies Day Stroke Monthly Medal
Congratulations to Tracey McKenzie (28) who played consistently to chalk up another monthly medal victory with a score of net 74.
Jen Alexander 76, Frankie Maclennan 77 , Kaye Irwin and Sandraa Denovan both net 78 followed.
Anne Maree Skarratt won scratch on the day with 100 off the stick.
Frankie Maclennan won the putting and Anne King Church the NTP on 15.
Nine Hole Event
Dulcie Beer had a good round to win with 17 points from veteran Frank Baggaley with 12 points.
Mens Stableford
Welles Jenkins (17) and Chris Pettitt (10) tied on 37 points each with Welles getting the win on C/B.
Brian Busk 36, Allen Baggaley 34, John Skarratt 34, Neil O’Connell 33 and Steve Papworth also on 33 points were next best.
Upcoming Events.
Saturday 15th August , 4 bbb Stroke and the final of the knockout competition.
Sale Plate , Sunday 23rd August. Yarram has one team entered thus far.
