Paul McAninly's Golf Report ⛳️

Jen Nickell Ladies 2026 Champion

Following three rounds of exiting stroke the Ladies Club Championship was decided by the barest of margins with Jen Nickell playing consistently the deserved Champion prevailing with a gross score of 300 from multiple Club Champion , Sandra Denovan just one back on 301.
Round one saw Jen (25) win the monthly medal with a fine score of net 72 .
Linda Rippon (28) also started the Championship in good form winning B Grade with net 77 and the NTP on 15.
DTL awards went to Kaye Irwin 75, Frankie Maclennan and Janine Butler both on net 79 .
Round two, Jen Nickell had another consistent round to win on the day with net 77 on C/B from Sanda Denovan a DTL award and Frankie Maclennan on net 80.
Tuesday, round three commenced with Jen holding a six stroke advantage . Her first nine holes were a battle with Sandra at her competitive best cutting the deficit . Jen to her credit on the back nine steadied the ship and at the conclusion of play a worthy Champion for 2026.
Placegetters Jen Nickell 300, Sandra Denovan 301, Michelle Staley and Anne Maree Skarratt 309 and Frankie Maclennan 312 strokes.
Linda Rippon also had a successful three rounds to be crowned the C Grade Champion with a score of 317 at the post match presentations.
Sandra Denovan won the Jane Davidson Memorial for the best net score on day three 72 on C/B from Jen Nickell. Sandra also won the putting with 89.
The Grannies trophy donated by Life Member, Wendy Pope also went to Sandra Denovan for the best round 72 scored on the last day of the Championship.
Jen Nickell to cap off a wonderful three days of competition was also the aggregate victor with a score of 225.
Saturday Stroke Monthly Medal
Chris Anderson (23) won bragging rights over his golfing mates to win the monthly medal with a score of net 74 on C/B. Chris also collected the vets award to cap off his good day.
Dylan Rash (6) with net 75 prevailed in A Grade.
Wazza Vincent (14) in good form won B Grade also with net 74.
Vicki McNaughton (39) with the best score of the day, net 73 won the D Grade award.
Scott Leggett won scratch on C/B with 81 off the stick.
10 players won DTL balls down to net 77.
Steve Papworth won the NTP’s on 1 and 7, Murray Foat the money on 15 and Beetle Askew got closest on 18.
John Skarratt chipped in on one to win a birdie ball prize and Murray Foat got down in two on 15 to be rewarded.

Tuesday Mens Stableford
Neil O’Connell (45) had a day out to be the runaway winner with 43 points.
Graham Underwood 36, Allen Baggaley 34 , Brian Busk 34 and Mark Goulden 33 points followed.
Nine Hole Stableford
Lois Gronow got the chocolates with 17 points.
Glenys Lubic 16, Dulcie Beer 15 and Frank Baggaley 14 points followed.
Thursday Nine Hole Chicken Run
Allen Baggaley 17 and Ken Davidson 16 points on C/B won some fare .

Twenty Clubs represented in Tournament

The iconic annual Kings Birthday Weekend Tournament once again proved a popular destination with many of Gippsland’s finest golfers teeing off in the three day event.
Saturday’s Ladies medley saw 14 year old, Madison Kelly (7) down from Bairnsdale have another terrific performance in Yarram, winning with 34 points, just one in front of Anne Maree Skarratt with 33 points. Madison also won the NTP on 15 to cap off a good day for the rising young star.
Jen Nickell and Sandra Denovan won DTL awards.
In the Mens Medley Stableford , Chris Buckland ( plus 3) was in superb form to win overall and A Grade with 37 points. His round including 7 birdies to highlight his dominant performance.
Tom Lawrence (12) also had a good day to win B Grade with 34 points.
Ken Bird (19) played consistently to get the nod in C Grade with 35 points.
DTL awards went to Paul Prendergast 35, Allen Baggaley 34, Michael Purgar 34 ,Rick Rogers 33, Dean Summerfield 32 ,John Skarratt 32, Scott Leggett 31, Chris Pettitt 31, Chris Anderson 31, Lukas Jenkins 30 and Mark Goulden also with 30 points recognized.
Sunday Ambrose
The popular format of two person Ambrose attracted a wonderful field of 94 competitors on a perfect winters day with Sully, Trevor Brown and Gary Ward running the popular Bar B Que to keep everyone well fed and watered.
Local players Sharelle Roberts and Janine Butler combined superbly to win the Ladies event with net 62, well in front of Susan Straw and Louise Vuillermin on net 75.5.
Caitlan Campbell and Erin Campbell , Anne Maclennan and Tania Richmond winning DTL balls.
Janine Butler won the NTP on 7, and Susan Straw the NTP’s on 15 and 18.
In the Mixed event, regular and welcome visitors, Reno Borg and Di Moody over from Trafalgar led the way with net 62.
John and Anne Maree Skarratt just a whisker behind on 62.25.
Four other couples were recognized with DTL balls.
John Skarratt won the NTP on 7.
In the Mens event, Nino Ditta and playing partner Nathan Milne were in good form to win with net 62.5.
Tyson and Dylan Skarratt also combined well , runners up on 63.25.
Five other pairings were recognized with DTL awards .
Tate Jenkins won the NTP on 1, Tyler Chisholm 15 and Oliver Lawrence got closest on 18.
Monday Fourball Stableford
Another delightful winter’s day greeted the 76 competitors for Monday’s fourball stableford.
Sisters, Erin and Caitlin Campbell ( Heyfield) were delighted to be announced as the overall and B Grade Ladies victors with 45 points.
Glenda Knowles and Sandra Denovan also had a good day, runners up with 40 points on C/B.
In A Grade, Alison Bailey and Di Moody ( Trafalgar) were announced the victors with 44 points. Di ( Mumford) Moody thoroughly enjoying her return to Yarram , following her success the previous day.
Elisa Nudelman and playing partner Araya Kuntiwong visiting from Foster, runners up with 38 points on C/B.
In the Mens event, Nino Ditta and Jed Smith blew the field away with a stunning 51 points the overall and B Grade victors.
Toby and Brett Mitchell ( Welshpool) runners up with a fine 48 points.
In A Grade , Tate Chisholm and Owen Gourley combined impressively to win with 48 points.
John and Dylan Skarratt continued their recent consistent form to be declared runners up with 42 points.
Several DTL and NTP winners were also announced as the members and visitors enjoyed afternoon tea and liquid refreshments at the conclusion of play.
The course volunteers were thanked at Presentations for their ongoing commitment to having the fairways and greens in great condition . The Tournament Committee in particular, John and Anne Maree Skarratt , Rob and Gayl Summers , Sully, Trevor Brown and Gary Ward were all thanked for their wonderful contribution to a very successful three days of competition.
Tuesday Ladies Day
Linda Rippon (28) the overall and B Grade winner with 35 points in the Stableford event
Ladies Captain, Frankie Maclennan (25) won A Grade with 34 points.
Tania Richmond and Joy Darby winning DTL balls.
Linda Rippon won the NTP and a birdie ball prize getting down in two on 15 .
Sharelle Roberts 1 and Jen Nickell on 18 the target hole prizes on the day.
Mens Stableford
Paul McAninly (12) playing to his handicap with 36 points the victor.
Trevor Thommers 35, Dean Summerfield 34, Ian Peel 33 and John Skarratt also with 33 points recognized.
Brendan Farley won the NTP on 7 and Bill Reid with a nice shot got closest on 15.

We had an outstanding 3-day experience at the Yarram Golf Kings Birthday Tournament, which saw great attendance, superb weather, and fantastic camaraderie among participants. Special thanks are extended to Rob and Gayl from our bar staff, our dedicated volunteers, and all the sponsors for their generous prizes. Winners will be later in Paul Mac's report. Appreciation is expressed to everyone who attended this successful event.

Bumper Fields for Tournament

The dedicated course volunteers have the fairways and greens in pristine condition in readiness for this weekend’s iconic Kings Birthday three day Tournament. Organizers are delighted with the response with Sunday’s Ambrose and Monday’s fourball stableford in particular attracting many visiting golfers from multiple Gippsland Clubs , attracted by the layout and generous awards on offer.
Saturday Stableford
Sixty Eight golfers hit off in Saturday’s individual Stableford with Lukas Jenkins (19) having a fine round to win overall and C Grade with 40 points.
Darren Walton (11) visiting from Ringwood led the way in A Grade with 38 points.
Dean Summerfield (18) also had a good day to win B Grade with 37 points and the vets event on the day.
Neil O’Connell (46) is developing his game nicely won D Grade also with 37 points.
Ten players won DTL awards down to 34 points.
Rick Rogers won the NTP on 7, Brendan Farley with a stunning shot all but aced the 15th to win the money and Anne Maree Skarratt got closest on 18.
Birdie ball awards on the par threes went to Scott Leggett, Peter Jenkins, Neil Lockhart and Kel Griffiths.
Nick Walton one of the Ringwood visitors impressed with an eagle three on the 8th to cap off a good round.
Tuesday Ladies Day Stableford
Linda Rippon (28) had a pretty consistent round ,winning with 35 points.
Anne Maree Skarratt and Jen Nickell awarded DTL balls.
Anne Maree also won the target hole prize on 1and Barbara Cox on 18.
Mens Stableford
Dean Summerfield (18) playing to his handicap won with 36 points.
Steve Papworth 35, Chris Buckland warming up for the weekend , Gippsland Championships 35 and Peter Jenkins 33 points followed.
Nine Hole Stableford
Frank Baggaley another successful day, led the field home with 17 points, well played.
Thursday Chicken Run
Barbara Cox is turning into the Thursday specialist to win again with 21 points.
Graham Underwood another chook19 and Suzie Davis also collected some fare with 19 points and won the NTP on the day.
Sunday Nine Hole Stableford
Anne Maree Skarratt was in good form to win with 18 points and bragging rights over husband John 16 and son Dylan Skarratt with 13 points.

Thrilling Pennant Victory

Sunday morning some of Gippsland’s finest golfers headed to the Bairnsdale Golf course for the 2026 pennant finals with Yarram’s five man combination taking on Toongabbie in the division three ( West) final.
A real team effort from Yarram with several worthy performances in the preliminary rounds to qualify for the 2026 final. Some engrossing match play was witnessed ,over the five games contested with John Skarratt winning his match 5 and 3. Dylan Skarratt also had a terrific day to record a five and 4 victory. Scott Leggett had the crucial match against Garry Lalor and had to give five shots to his opponent. However the Yarram captain was cool under pressure sinking a clutch putt on the 20th to clinch victory to the delight of his teammates .
Congratulations to all team members on a memorable victory against some talented opponents.
Saturday’s event was a four ball stableford and also the first round of the 2026 fourball match play knockout matches.
Graeme Pattinson (25) and Brian Coles (18) combined superbly to win with an impressive 48 points.
Nino Dtta and Jed Smith also had a good day, runners up with 45 points.
DTL awards went to Michael and Frank Purgar 43, Paul McAninly and Steve Papworth 42 and David Cooper and Jared Thomas also with 42 points recognized .

Justin Staley won the NTP on 7, Graham Underwood the money on 15 and Paul Conheady got closest on 18.
Birdie ball awards on the par threes went to Graham Underwood 15, Graeme Pattinson 18, Justin Staley 7 and Brian Coles on 15.
Tuesday Ladies Day
An individual par competition was held with Janine Butler (47) the overall and B Grade winner on C/B with a score of square
Anne Maree Skarratt won A Grade with a score of minus 3.
DTL awards went to Linda Rippon, Barb Cox and Kaye Irwin.
Linda Rippon won the NTP on 15 and Michelle Staley the target hole prize on 18.
LadiesPennant
The Yarram Ladies concluded their final round of pennant for 2026 on a positive note defeating Sale 3 and 2 with Newry hosting today’s competition.
Metung the dominant side during home and away matches now take on Newry in the final.
Mens Stableford
Justin Staley (20) tuned his game for Sunday’s pennant final with a stellar 38 points with his winning round including 3 birdies on the back nine.
Brendan Farley 37, Jack King Church 37, and Trevor Thommers with 36 points followed.
Thursday Nine Hole Chicken Run
Some good scores were recorded with Graham Underwood 21 points the winner. John Skarratt 20 and Dean Summerfield 18 points also won some fare.
Sunday Nine Hole
Tania Richmond led the way with 17 points.
Janine Butler 14 and Jen Nickell 12 points came in third place.

Congratulations to Yarram Mens Pennant Div 3 west premiers 2026 was a great competition against Toongabbie at Bairnsdale Golf Club went down to the 20th hole with a clutch put from from our captain Scott Leggett to seal it for Yarram Golf Club ,team was Scotty Leggett,Taz Niclos John Skarratt Dylan Skarratt Justin Staley on the day, Also big thanks to the team that got us there,Jamie Peirce,Mark Goulden Paul McAninly,Jarrod Thomas,Lukas Jenkins ....🏆
