Captain Oliver Lilley won the toss and elected to bowl.
Yarra Glen’s bowlers worked hard across the innings, keeping things tight and sharing the workload effectively. Joshua Holland was the standout, delivering a superb spell of 4 overs with 2 maidens, taking 3 wickets for just 13 runs at an economy of 3.25. Oliver Lilley was highly economical, conceding only 7 runs from his 3 overs, while Heath Burke and Xander Nielsen both bowled with impressive control. Harvey Williamson also chipped in with a tidy 3 overs for 12 runs, while Flynn Bain and Finn Williamson kept things steady in support. Nixon Murphy and Ash Weda rounded out the attack, each bowling two overs and maintaining pressure in the middle overs. Overall, it was a disciplined display with Josh Holland’s 3 wickets the clear highlight. Coldstream finishing on 3/96.
Yarra Glen requiring 4.17 runs an over. Harvey Williamson (22 n.o) and Oliver Lilley (0) got us under way with Oliver bowled in the first over. Flynn Bain (27) joined Harvey at the crease and the 2 batted with controlled intent. Retirements saw Xander Nielsen (0) and Heath Burke (6) at the crease with Heath’s hard hitting pushing the run rate along. First gamer Ash Weda (3 n.o) looked right home in support with Nixon Murphy (5) steadying the innings. Another first gamer Finn Williamson (2) showed great maturity. With retired batters returning to the crease the chase was on 5 overs remaining with 29 runs to get. Harvey and Flynn continued on with the pressure, with Flynn dismissed in the 19th over. Ash Weda joined Harvey to provide support with Harvey guiding the innings to a win in the final over with a lovely shot through midwicket for 4. Yarra Glen finishing 6/100
Round 2 Match Report – Under 16/4s
Yarra Glen 8/82 lost to Mt Evelyn 9/121 (25 overs)
Yarra Glen faced off against Mt Evelyn in Round 2 of the Under 16/4s season, putting in a solid team effort despite falling short in the chase.
Bowling first, Sam Donnelly lead the way, taking 3/10 off 4 overs in a very tidy spell that included a chance at a hat-trick. Kade Smith bowled well early with out luck conceding only 2 runs from 3 overs. Mitch Ammerlaan was the only other multiple wicket taker in a good two over spell, claiming figures of 2/8 off 2 overs. Xavier Thwaites, Ash Bradley and Sam O\`Callaghan all picked up a wicket each. The bowlers worked hard to keep Mt Evelyn to 9/121 from their 25 overs.
Our U/16\`s showed patches of promise with the bat. Ash Bradley top-scored with 23 not out, anchoring the innings. He was supported by Kade Smith with a solid 19 and Sam Donnelly, who added an unbeaten 14.
Ultimately, the team finished on 8/82, falling short of the target against a strong opposition.
We look forward to Yarra Junction next week with plenty of room to move to hit our straps and play to our full potential!
Match Report – Round 2: Senior 1st XI One-Day (40 Over Match)

Result: Yarra Glen won by 5 wickets (with 6 overs to spare)

Yarra Glen’s 1st XI delivered a strong team performance in Round 2, securing a convincing 5-wicket win over Bayswater Park 2nd XI with 6 overs to spare. In a match marked by early bowling brilliance, disciplined spells, and mature batting, the team showcased depth and composure on their way to chasing down 192.
Bayswater Park Innings
The tone was set early by Anthony D’Sa who produced a sensational opening over, finding himself on a hat-trick. The first wicket came from an excellent overhead catch by Liam Senti running back with the flight at mid-off, followed immediately by a sharp reflex caught-and-bowled to put Bayswater Park on the back foot.
Unfortunately, Anthony’s spell was cut short by a strained neck muscle in his third over, but his early impact had already rattled the opposition. Liam Senti continued the pressure from the other end, delivering five overs for just 9 runs in an outstanding display of control and accuracy.
Phil Cowan was next to strike, trapping their other opening batsman LBW with the score on 3/37, effectively using the strong breeze to swing the ball back into the right-hander. Tim Lilley followed with a tidy spell, bowling 8 straight overs for just 17 runs and keeping the pressure on through the middle overs.
Just before the drinks break, Jordan Bain drew an edge down the leg side that was well caught by keeper Tony Biddiscombe, reducing Bayswater Park to 4/76 in the 19th over.
After drinks, Bob Scott claimed his maiden 1st XI wicket—well-earned after a strong pre-season and just reward for his effort—with the batsman chopping onto his stumps.
In the final overs, Paul Gloury claimed two wickets, aided by a well-judged boundary catch by Anthony D’Sa at deep square leg and another skied ball caught by Phil Cowan at mid-wicket. Paul bowled in tandem with debutant Saad Adeem, who handled the pressure of bowling at the death commendably.
Bayswater Park closed their innings at 8/191 from 40 overs.
Yarra Glen Innings
Chasing 192, openers Phil Cowan and Sam Gloury started positively. Phil signalled intent early, smashing 3 boundaries in the opening overs before being bowled for a brisk12 off just 8 balls. Sam (6) looked comfortable but was adjudged LBW with the score at 2/28.
Anthony D’Sa continued his all-round impact with a fluent 23 off 23 balls, including four boundaries, before being caught at point. At 3/51 Tony Biddiscombe joined Paul Gloury in the middle and the pair set about constructing a steady and intelligent 64-run partnership. Both batsmen rotated the strike well, punished any loose deliveries on offer and keeping the required run rate in check.
Travis Gloury joined Paul after Tony was caught at point in the 23rd over at 4/125 just after the drinks break. The two continued to build on the platform with the addition of a further 57 runs for the 5th wicket over the next nine overs before Paul fell for a match-winning 70, in a composed and technically sound innings featuring 8 boundaries in a masterclass of smart batting.
With just 10 runs required, Saad Adeem (11*) joined Travis Gloury (19*) to get the job done in the 34th over, with six overs still remaining and five wickets in hand.
Summary
Yarra Glen’s performance ticked all the boxes: early bowling pressure, tight middle overs, and a composed chase led by Paul Gloury’s outstanding knock, supported well by Tony Biddiscombe. With contributions across the board and areas still to improve, the 1st XI looks well set for a strong season ahead.

Yarra Glen 2nd XI – Round 2 Match Report (35-over One-Day Match)
Yarra Glen vs. Vermont 3rd XI

It was a bright and energetic Saturday as the Yarra Glen 2nd XI headed into Round 2 of the 35-over competition with enthusiasm and confidence after last weeks victory.
Opening Partnership Sets the Tone
The match got off to a promising start with Lucas Burke (13) and Noah Evans (23) combining at the top of the order to produce a composed and confident opening stand of 41. The pair rotated the strike well and put away the bad balls, laying a solid platform and giving the team early hope of a strong total.
Though both openers were dismissed in quick succession, the momentum continued with Hunter Grenfell (14) and Shane Fordham (22) combining for a lively middle-order partnership. Fordham, in particular, brought the innings to life with a series of five boundaries, playing his shots with trademark flair and putting the Vermont bowlers under real pressure.
With Fordham\`s departure came a flurry of wickets – including last week’s standout Dylan Shambrook (5) and the unfortunate run out of Tim O’Callaghan. Brad Willmore, Sam Holland, Matt Donnelly, and Xavier Bosua all contributed to post a total of 111 before the team was dismissed in the 33rd over.
Noah Evans claimed the team’s sole wicket, denying the Vermont opener a century in an extraordinary batting display in the 15th over who scored 94 of the teams 112 runs.
Now with a win and a loss after two games, our 2nd XI look forward to taking on St.Andrews next week in the first two day game of the season.
Match Report: Round 2 – 3rd XI One Day (36 Overs)
Yarra Glen 3rd XI vs Warranwood 8th XI
Result: Yarra Glen won by 15 runs
Yarra Glen’s 3rd XI secured a well-earned victory in Round 2 defending a total of 9/149 to claim a 15-run win over Warranwood’s 8th XI in a tight, entertaining contest.
The day began with a strong start from debutant Blake Rallis, who impressed in his first senior game for the club with a fluent 27 off 25 balls, hitting five boundaries. He was well supported by fellow opener Jai Chandler (10), and together they put on a solid 40-run opening partnership, setting a strong platform.
However, a quick double strike saw both openers dismissed in succession. Nathan Deringowski (13) and Jarrod Exton (20) combined for a stabilising 35-run stand. Jarrod hit three boundaries before losing his stumps, and Nathan was run out shortly after, with Yarra Glen at 4/79.
Contributions from John Evans, Ryan Mock, and Richard Gurney nudged the total to 7/91, but it was the standout partnership between Under 16 Kade Smith (32) and Over 70\`s stalwart Terry Brown (20)* that breathed new life into the innings. Their 42-run stand proved crucial, with Kade showing maturity beyond his years before being run out. A special mention goes to Under 12 debutant Oliver Lilley, who handled his first senior match admirably, scoring 4 runs and helping the side bat out their full 36 overs.

In reply, Warranwood got off to a shaky start, losing early wickets to Kade Smith and Nathan Deringowski, slumping to 2/3. The pressure continued as debutant Matthew Campbell and Jai Chandler struck in quick succession to reduce Warranwood to 4/20, with Jai soon claiming his second scalp.
A run out further dented the chase and had Warranwood teetering at 6/32, seemingly out of the contest. However, a gutsy 98-run partnership reignited the chase and brought Warranwood back into the game, threatening to sn**ch victory.
Just when the momentum seemed to be shifting, Jarrod Exton made the breakthrough with a catch taken by Jai Chandler, and Matthew Campbell sealed the deal with the final wicket, leaving Warranwood all out for 134.
Well done to the 3rd XI – a brilliant team effort!
