The 14th David Peel Invitational Golf Classic will be held at Sandy Golf Links on Saturday 9th December 2023.

Self-described as “Melbourne’s best public golf course”, the recently renovated course is a fitting venue whilst the home course of the competition, Albert Park Golf Course, is rested for another year.

The full field will be announced in the coming days, and is looking strong with many former winners included.

Reigning champion Dan Giesen-White looking to streak ahead of Troy Dehar and become the first Kiwi to win 2 titles.

Matthew McKenna looking to become the first man to win the coveted trophy 3 times and leave Benoit Bégin behind.

Golf addict, the Australian Shaun Mathieson is looking to avoid yet another back 9 meltdown and take his nation to 4 competition wins, 3 short of England, currently on 7.

Wanting to silence the haters is Kieron Bibby, who’s only win has that asterix against it when bad light stopped play before 18 holes could be completed with Gary Kelly’s mate Adrian McGill hunting him down.

And the only man in the history of the competition to appear in all 13 events to date, David Peel, will be looking to add to his solitary success.

Perennial competition ‘bridesmaid’ Scott Williams and 2022 fancy dress winner Chris De Vere will not feature this year whilst playing in Tasmanian and Sydney competitions respectively.

Also DP Classic stalwart Josh Mills is ruled out.

As is the general tradition, there will be no handicaps in the 2023 edition.

The after party will be held down Chapel Street.

Saturday 13th November 2021 saw The 12th David Peel Invitational Golf Classic take place for a 9th time in Australia.

As well organised as it has ever been, 6 golfers took to the Ivanhoe Golf Course in Melbourne and after a collapse from favourite Shaun, +6 after 9 holes, there was a 3 way tie for the lead after 18 after a monumental putt from Peel on the 18th (following a slight mishap on the 17th).

Peel, Troy Dehar and Matty McKenna then took to the 17th again and it would be McKenna who would take the trophy and jacket from Dehar, with Peel having an identical repeat of his mishap on the 17th only minutes earlier.

🇦🇺 The 10th Anniversary David Peel Invitational Golf Classic was supposed to take the lads to Thailand for a 72 holes competition.

The reality was piling into a mini bus and day tripping down the Mornington Peninsula, tackling the fairways and obstacles of the Eagle Ridge Golf Course.

Benoit Begin became the first person to win the coveted trophy and red jacket twice.

🇦🇺 The 9th David Peel Invitational Golf Classic was held at Malvern Valley in Melbournes South-Eastern suburbs.

was the eventual winner making it 2 years in succession an Aussie took the title and a 9th different winner in 9 years.

🇦🇺 The 8th David Peel Invitational Golf Classic 2017 was again played at Albert Park Golf Course in Melbourne for the 2nd year in succession and 3rd time in competion history.

It was eventually won by an Aussie for the first time in Shaun Mathieson.

A strong field of 8 took to the fairways and for a 4th year in a row despite always being played in summer, a thunderstorm hit.

🇦🇺 The 7th David Peel Invitational Golf Classic 2016 was played at Albert Park Golf Course for the 2nd time in the competitions history.

Kieron Bibby took the title in an eventful days golf.

For the 3rd year in succession a thunderstorm was forecast on the big day.

The storm caused a delay to the commencement of play.

As a result there were only 16 holes completed so there will always be an asteroid against the 2016 winner.

It was eventually won by who narrowly beat after the Irishman missed a putt in the darkness.

It meant that 6 winner son the 7 years were English maintaining the Poms dominance of the competition. @ Albert Park Golf Course

🇦🇺 In 2015 The David Peel Invitational Golf Classic was played at Brighton Public Golf Course.

For the 2nd year in succession a thunderstorm was forecast but thankfully play was completed before it hit.

Benoit Begin took the trophy with a late surge on the back 9.

The photo is of Benoit still wearing the red winners jacket a year later at the 2016 classic.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 The 5th David Peel Invitational Golf Classic returned to Hull and Springhead Golf Course for a 3rd time in 5 years.

A strong field of 4 took to the course and play had to be paused for approx 30 minutes midway through whilst a thunderstorm passed.

When play resumed it was eventually won by Jonathan Crumpton.

An initial field of 12 was set but due to several issues including the Rugby World Cup final and traffic it became 4. @ Malvern Valley Golf Club
