WELCOME TO TRAINING FOR 2026!!

A warm welcome back to training for all past, present and future Karateka!

We start back 5:15pm Monday 2nd February 2026 in the Auditorium.

We look forward to growing and learning together for another year.

Renbukan Karate is a traditional Japanese style of Karate. We have shared Karate in the Clarence Valley for over 50 years with thousands of students.

Renbukan Karate is pressure tested in the dojo, in the street, and on the tatami at the international level of competition. Train a martial art that is proven to be effective, increases your vitality, and amplifies your power in every way with our expert instructors.

We had such a wonderful day at the mini matsuri “Sounds of Japan” at the RSL hall with and friends.

It was such a wonderful weaving of Japanese culture and traditional craft. We were proud to share Renbukan traditional Karate with some of our students aged 5 to 74, all demonstrating the power and vitality that can be enjoyed at any age through the discipline of Karate.

Thank you to and for organising such a wonderful day. We made new friends, and have been overjoyed to welcome more new students.

SOUNDS OF JAPAN 🇯🇵🥁

We’re so excited to be joining the SOUNDS OF JAPAN mini festival this Sunday 31 August at the RSL Hall in Yamba for TWO Karate demonstrations.

10:30am - KIDS

11:45am - BLACKBELTS

Our demonstrations are free to attend, and are spliced in with two exciting Japanese Taiko Drumming workshops for children and adults.

We’re very excited is coming to Yamba! Enjoy delicious Japanese food from , shop beautiful ceramics with , Japanese crafts with , beautiful flowers by and of course, traditional Japanese Karate with .karate

It will be a fun filled day for the whole family!

Greetings to our Karate-ka families and friends!

After a challenging time with our FB account being hacked and disabled, we are happy to be back up and running!

2025 has been an exciting year for our Dojo and we look forward to sharing some of those moments here now that we’re back.

For now, hello and welcome. If you’ve never trained with us before, you’re more than welcome to join our Monday 5:15pm class at the Yamba Bowlo Auditorium. Your first lesson is free, no need to book.

We’ve been teaching and training traditional Japanese Karate on the lower Clarence for more than 50 years. 23 of those years have been supported by the Yamba Bowling Club. We’ve trained thousands of people over the years and our best black belts still train with us, instructing and carrying the legacy forward to this day.

Karate is hard to learn, but nothing worth doing is easy. Master yourself through this ancient art with our excellent instructors.

We had an excellent evening together last night in our all-welcome families class.

We shared stories from our recent trip to Japan to train with our teacher Kancho Iba, the head of Renbukan Karate, and three generations each of our families.

We had a very special time together and are thrilled to announce that Shihan Ross Roberts was graded to 8TH DAN master rank by Kancho Iba at the Honbu Dojo in Himeji.

We are similarly thrilled to announce that Shihan David McGregor was also graded to 6TH DAN master rank.

Japanese Dan grades are among the hardest martial arts grades in the world to attain, and are rarely, even today, genuinely awarded to non-Japanese practitioners.

It is thus, a deeply meaningful achievement, a testament to expert proficiency, and a profound acknowledgment of a lifetime dedicated to diligent study of the art. It also speaks to the calibre of martial artists training in our Dojo, and to the world class instruction we offer to our students.

Karate gives so much, and it is this gratitude that inspires us to share what has been shared with us. 50+ years and counting, right here in the Clarence Valley.

Just before the Christmas break our Yamba dojo instructors and families gathered on the Gold Coast with instructors and families from the QLD Renbukan Karate Dojos.

It was a fantastic gathering to continue celebrating the 50 year anniversary of Renbukan Karate in Australia, and to formally present certificates from Kancho Iba in Japan to our new Shihan (master rank).

Until last year there were 2 Renbukan master ranks outside of Japan. We now have 6, including 2 in our own Yamba Dojo, as we celebrate Mr David McGregor’s ascension to the revered rank.

With great admiration and respect we also recognise and congratulate Shihan Mike Jordan from the Toowoomba Dojo, Shihan Peter Bayliss from the Bardon Dojo, and Shihan Glenn Meachem from the Gold Coast Dojo.

True Karate doesn’t change. You do.

Whether it’s been 6 weeks since you’ve trained, 6 months, 6 years, or more. Karate remains a path you can step onto at any time. And just train.
