Hi everyone

I am looking at having the Inspire Sport’s Group deliver a couple of umpire workshops over the coming month for existing umpires via Zoom.

The first Workshop has been developed to cover all aspects of positioning, vision and timing. This session is sure to be extremely beneficial for all.

The second workshop will cover the key elements of an Umpires Communication and Game Management and how important it is to understand the impact you can have on the game as an umpire.
We will also explore the difference between game management and game leadership with the view of unlocking our understanding of the leader within as an umpire.

Workshops will be $20.00 each.
Date and time to be confirmed once we have enough numbers.

If there is a contact or obstruction against the defender in the goal circle the sanction is no longer called “penalty pass or shot”. You only need to say “penalty pass”.

Penalty pass: Sanction for a major infringement. A Goal Shooter or Goal Attack taking a penalty pass in the goal circle may either pass or shoot for goal.

Free pass: sanction for a minor infringement.

A sanction is the action taken by an umpire (free pass or penalty pass) against an infringing player, team official or bench player.

6.1.1 Procedures for Centre Pass
The umpire controlling the centre pass is responsible for penalising any infringements by the Centre taking the centre pass and any opponent defending the pass (if the sanction is awarded in the co-umpire’s half, the co-umpire assumes control once it is set).

We were slow to implement this but In 2016 the terminology changed for stepping to Footwork. We are to use footwork for all instances except for a “drag”.

Areas of control
Even if you’re sure you saw something in the other umpires end, you cannot makes any calls in the other umpire’s area of control (unless appealed to by that umpire).
