🩵 WEDNESDAY TIPS WITH TINA 🩵

Let’s talk about some of the supplements I put in my feeds and, more importantly, WHY I use them! 🐴💙

Starting with one of our favourites — UlcaBuf from Stance Equitec.

Most, if not all, of our hard-working performance horses get a scoop (or more, depending on the individual horse) of UlcaBuf each day.

UlcaBuf helps support the stomach’s protective environment and buffer stomach acid, while also supporting healthy digestion and the hindgut.

It can help:

Standing at approximately 16.2hh unofficially, O**y is a lovely, genuine mare who is 100% sound and can be brought back into ridden work.

Please note: O**y does have a history of choke, which is managed through appropriate feeding practices, being wet feed.
She has previously undergone a throat operation, however this does not affect her performance or quality of life.
She does not require ongoing medication for this and her management is simply centred around ensuring her feed is appropriately wet down.

O**y is currently out of work, purely because our team has not had the time available to bring her back into work. With the right person and a consistent routine, we believe she should not take a great deal of time to get back into work.

She has also had one foal in her lifetime and proved herself to be a wonderful broodmare.

O**y has so many potential avenues ahead of her and could make a beautiful addition to the right home. She could be brought back into work as a ridden mare, continue her career as a broodmare, or be a nanny or companion.

Most importantly, O**y is looking for a home where she will be genuinely loved, valued and cared for. She means a great deal to our team, so we are looking for the very best home for this special girl rather than simply a quick sale.

Angel is completely sound and has a lovely nature, however, she would be only suited to life as a companion mare, broodmare, recipient mare or simply as a much-loved paddock mate due to her age.

She has had 3 beautiful foals throughout her lifetime and has experience as a broodmare. She has also been used multiple times as a companion for other horses and young stock, and is a lovely mare to have around.

Angel has been exposed to all the usual sights and sounds of a busy property and is comfortable around dogs, motorbikes, children, cows and other horses. She is the type of mare who is happy to be part of the family and enjoys having company around her.

She has a kind, genuine nature and would make a wonderful addition to the right home. We would love to see her go somewhere where she can enjoy a quiet and happy retirement, whether that be as a companion to another horse, a broodmare, recipient mare or simply someone’s beloved paddock friend.

Who wouldn’t want this beautiful boy sitting in their backyard? ❤️

It’s A SilverTrail — AKA “Silver”

This beautiful 16-year-old boy has never put a foot wrong in his life. Silver is the sweetest, most genuine soul and is the type of horse that seems to have a special kindness about him. 🥹❤️

He can be paddocked with absolutely anything and is always happy to keep the peace. Silver sits right at the bottom of the pecking order and is completely unfazed by mares — making him a wonderful companion for just about anyone.

He truly is the perfect therapy horse, whether that be for another horse or pony, or simply for someone who needs a special friend in their backyard. 🐴❤️

Silver does have navicular, but with the right management and a gentle, caring person looking after him, it does not stop him from being his happy, loving self. He is looking for a home that understands this and is willing to give him the care he deserves.

Silver would make the most beautiful companion pet, or therapy horse!

Silver can be ridden in light work or trail riding, but is not suitable to full time work or heaving riding.

Above all, he deserves to spend his days feeling loved, safe and appreciated. 🫶🏼

🩵 WEDNESDAY TIPS WITH TINA 🩵

Bell Boots in the Paddock — Why Use Them?

Does your horse have a habit of pulling shoes, overreaching or stepping on the heels of their feet? Bell boots can be a great way to provide that extra bit of protection, even when your horse is out in the paddock.

Bell boots help protect the hoof wall, heel bulbs and coronary band from being stepped on by the opposite hoof. They can be particularly useful for horses that are prone to pulling their front shoes, especially when they’re playing, moving around or getting a little too enthusiastic in the paddock! 😂

Bell boots should also be checked regularly to make sure they fit correctly, aren’t rubbing and aren’t trapping dirt or moisture against the hoof.

Remember — bell boots are an added layer of protection, not a replacement for regular farrier care. Keeping on top of trims, shoeing and daily hoof checks can make a huge difference to your horse’s soundness and overall hoof health.

A little prevention can save you a lot of headaches (and farrier call outs!).

🩵 WEDNESDAY TIPS WITH TINA 🩵

🌱 Worming with the Change of Season

Being two days into spring, we thought it was perfect time to start this conversation!!
As we head into a change of season, it’s a great time to check in on your horse’s worming program! 🐎

Worming shouldn’t simply be a case of reaching for the same product every few months. A good worming program should consider your horse’s age, pasture conditions, stocking density, management and, most importantly, what parasites are actually present.

✨ Tina’s tips:
🪱 Consider a faecal egg count. It’s always handy to have this knowledge when worming your horse to see where they’re currently sitting at.
🌿 Keep paddocks clean and remove manure or slash paddocks regularly where possible.
💊 Rotate worming actives appropriately rather than simply rotating brands.
📅 Keep a record of when your horse was wormed and what product was used.
👀 Young horses and horses with higher parasite risks may require a different approach to adult horses.
🐴 Have a herd? Horses sharing the same paddock share parasite exposure, so coordinating your worming program can be very helpful. But remember, every horse is an individual, so don’t assume they all need the same product or treatment.

Below, we’ve added a photo of the brand we’ll be using this season change at the farm, here’s why we love Equimax.

Equimax is a broad-spectrum wormer containing abamectin and praziquantel, giving coverage against a wide range of internal parasites, including strongyles, ascarids, pinworms and bots, as well as tapeworms. It can be a super useful option when tapeworm and a broad range of roundworms need to be targeted.

🌷A change of season is the perfect reminder to review your horse’s worming routine, especially coming from cold to hot, or hot to cold etc.

Remember, every horse and property is different, so think about putting together a worming program that’s right for your horse. ❤️
