2014 AIS Community Club of the Year. Wynyard Yacht Club is a growing club offering a range of sailing opportunities for the community -

Wynyard Yacht Club (TAS) Wynyard Yacht Club is in located in a small town of Tasmania, with a population of 5000 people, the yacht club continues to grow, with memberships increasing from 48 to 84 over the past year. This year, the club accredited three YA Instructors, four assistant instructors, delivered MAST accredited powerboat training to twelve members and accredited two YA umpires. Wynyard

Yacht Club became an accredited Discover Sailing Centre, running Discover Sailing each fortnight with approximately 20-30 participants attending each session, with club members giving up their racing to train new members. Further to this, the club saw 28 students pass through their Tackers program. Wynyard Yacht Club introduced Sailability North West by partnering with North West Residential Support Services and Sailability Tasmania. The club also joined with local councils to run a ‘Try Skills’ program to provide a free sailing experience to children aged ten-twelve years, similarly the club provided a sailing day to Marist College. As a club that gives back to the local community Wynyard Yacht Club offers its equipment and building to local surf clubs, assisted in six* Tasmanian Police search and rescue operations and in a town with the highest level of youth unemployment, the club offers sponsorship and discounted membership to disadvantage youth and families. *Please note after Sept 26th, several more rescues have been performed. This was the ‘Finalists information’ in the ‘Club of the Year” Awards information booklet produced for the Award Ceremony.

Thank you to Australian Sailing for granting the WYC a "Sail our Way" grant to help support mothers of WYC's youth sailors to participate in a Start Sailing program.

Congratulations to Wynyard Yacht Club, Midway Point Yacht Club and Sandy Bay Sailing Club on being successful in receiving a Round 2 Sail Our Way Grant.

These funded projects include introductory sailing experiences, coaching programs, leadership and mentoring initiatives demonstrating strong commitment across the sailing community to creating more inclusive pathways into the sport.

We can't wait to see the projects that our clubs run!

Forecast of rain did not eventuate so a good day learing, both on water and indoors.
