GOOD LUCK TO THE QUEENSLAND STATE GC TEAM!
The Queensland State Croquet Team, proudly captained by Ross Rillie, is heading off to Crainlea, Victoria, to compete against teams from around Australia in the Australian GC Interstate Shield.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Queensland’s best players to test their skills against the other states and represent Queensland on the national stage.
From all of us at Wynnum Croquet Club, we wish Ross and the entire Queensland team the very best of luck!
Play well, enjoy the competition and bring that shield back to Queensland!

Congratulations to seven Wynnum Croquet Club members who have successfully completed their Club Referee accreditation.

Becoming a referee takes commitment, study, a willingness to listen and learn, and practice, and we’re delighted to see these members taking on this important role within our club. Your new skills will be a valuable asset to the club and will help ensure our games are played fairly and in accordance with the rules.

Well done to Jim Love, Alison Love, Karen Meates, Aina Johns, Viv Tidmarsh, Tony Davis, and Sue Anderson. We look forward to seeing you putting your new knowledge into practice on the courts at our club.

Bendigo Bank Mixed Doubles at Wynnum Croquet Club 30 August
On Sunday, Wynnum hosted the Bendigo Bank Mixed doubles compeition with some excellent croquet, some close games, plenty of friendly rivarly and a few nervous players.
Thank you to all the players, referees, helpers - everyone who helped organise and run this event and Bendigo Bank for their continued support of Wynnum Croquet Club.
Congratulations to all the players for making it an enjoyable and competitive day!

In Division 1 the competition was particularly tough with more than half the players either selected for the Queensland state team or named as reserves. The meant the 2 Wynnum doubles pair, Di lovi and John van Barneveldfaced some seriously strong opposition.
They won a couple of games but with such a high quality field, every game was an opportunity to test their skills against some of the Queensland's best players.
Congratulations to Gabby Spencer and Charlie Ernst from sSuthport Croquet Club who were the winners. The runners up were Jenee Molyneux and Ross Rillie from Bribie Island Croquet Club. Both pairs finiished with an impressive 6 wins each. Gabby and Charlie secured the win with a 10 hoop advantage against Jeneee and Ross with a 7 hoop advantage.

Division 2 was aimed at less experienced competition players with more than half the players Wynum members.Congratulation to Lisa Weightman and Pat Woulahan who were the winners and runners-up were fellow Wynnum players Lorraine & Barry Beattie. It was a very close contest with both pairs winning 5 games each but Lisa & Pat finished just 2 hoops ahead. it doesn't get much closer than that!

Bendigo Cup Mixed Doubles
A special thank you to our referees Deirdre Giles, Sue Green, Helen Rillie and Chris Parker who could be easily spotted around the lawns in their highly visible fluro yellow vests. They were kept partucularly busy refereeing Div 2 players who are still getting used to the finer points of tournament play.
There was plenty of ball marking, hampered shots were closely observed and faults called when necessary to the great dismay of the players! But that's all part of learning the game and becoming a more experienced competition player.

From Noxious Tree to Nature's Showcase
Many of our members will remember the Chinese Elm that once stood near the croquet courts. As this species is considered a noxious, it was removed by the council some time ago.
While the tree is gone, its old stump has taken on a fascinating new role. It produces an amazing variety of fungi in different shapes, sizes and colours, turning what was once an unwanted tree into a miniature natural display.
It's a wonderful reminder that nature has a remarkable way of recycling and creating new life. Next time you're at the club, take a moment to have a look. You might be surprised at the tiny world of fungi thriving right beside our croquet lawns!

Our Feathered Club Members

Every morning tea and lunchtime at Wynnum Croquet Club seems to bring a familiar audience. Our resident magpies arrive right on cue, warbling away happily in the hope that someone might drop a tasty crumb.

They have become part of the club routine, keeping a close eye on the players and perhaps wondering why we spend so much time chasing little balls around the lawn.
