Waterloo Hotel Supports Wynnum Croquet Club!

Wynnum Croquet Club is delighted to acknowledge the community spirit of the Waterloo Hotel, which has generously sponsored a new in-house "Lawn Loop" competition.
The challenge is simple but far from easy: complete all 13 hoops in the fewest number of shots. The winner will receive a fantastic $100 Waterloo Hotel food voucher.
We sincerely thank the Waterloo Hotel for their generosity and encouragement of local community sport. We encourage our members and friends to support businesses that support us.
Good luck to all competitors. May your hoops be clean, your aim be true, and your shot count be low!

After weeks of wet weather, our lawns have become home to hundreds of worm castings. While they may not look particularly attractive, these little mounds are actually a sign of a healthy, living lawn. Earthworms help improve soil structure, drainage and nutrient cycling, so the grounds are certainly benefiting from their hard work.

For croquet players, however, the story is a little different! The tiny mounds can deflect the path of a ball, slow it down unexpectedly, and leave muddy deposits stuck to balls, shoes and even mallets. Precision shots can become a game of chance when worm castings decide to join the action.

🎉 Happy 100th Official Opening Anniversary! 🎉

On 12 June 1926, Wynnum Croquet Club officially opened its gates and began a journey that has now spanned a full century.

One hundred years later, members gathered to mark this special milestone with chocolate cake!

Over the past century, generations of players have enjoyed competition, friendship, laughter and community spirit at Wynnum. From the early days of ladies in white dresses and wide-brimmed hats to today's diverse and thriving membership, the club has continued to grow while preserving its rich heritage.

Here's to the pioneers who started it all, the members who have carried the club forward, and the many years of croquet still to come.

Wynnum Players Take on Queensland GC Bronze Medal Challenge

The Queensland Golf Croquet Bronze Medal was contested at Eildon Croquet Club over the weekend of 5-6 June, with Wynnum Croquet Club represented by Gordon Giles and Geoff Hull.

Both players competed strongly in a quality field. Gordon recorded 8 wins while Geoff finished with 7 wins across the tournament. The sole female competitor was Mary McMahon from Southport Croquet Club, who also played with determination throughout the event.

Although Gordon, Geoff did not take home the Bronze Medal, Gordon and Geoff proved they were competitive against some very capable opponents and were by no means outclassed.

Congratulations to Bronze Medal winner Bob Martin, who now earns the opportunity to travel to Victoria later this year to compete for the Gold or Silver Medal. We wish Bob every success in the next stage of the competition.

Well done to Gordon and Geoff for proudly representing Wynnum Croquet Club.
