Wynnum parkrun

Congratulations to the 424 finishers and a big THANK YOU to the 18 volunteers who made Wynnum parkrun 677 happen today.

Our hi-vis heroes were... Alan BURRELL, Ann ARMSTRONG, Carolyn HOW, Chris JACOBSEN, Crystal BARNES, Danielle MCGINNES, Eva MONTGOMERY, Kevin LIEPINS, Marcia RICHARDSON, Mary BLOWERS, Matt NASH, Nani VINSALEK, Patrick COLLINS, Paul HOWLETT, Paul SHEATHER, Peter HOW, Roisin BURRELL, and Sid HURSH.

The first finishers were Cameron Cox in 15:53 and Georgiana Mcdonald in 17:47. Our top age grades were Cameron with 87.62% and Georgina with 83.22%.

Today we welcomed 14 people for their first time ever to a parkrun and 44 visitors from as far away as Stones Corner (well maybe there were some from further away but they did not shout it out loud enough in the run brief). All visitors are very welcome here and we hope to see you again soon.

Our official milestones today were Nigel Smith (50) and Sean Kim (50) - congratulations to you both.

Just a date reminder for next Saturday, 12th September, when we celebrate 14 years since we started Wynnum parkrun event #1 on 8th September 2012 with 75 finishers and 7 volunteers - we were the 11th parkrun event to launch in Australia. There will be cake and Zooper Doopers! We have a few volunteer roles to fill so please check our roster and let us know if you can help. We are looking to take on more Run Directors. Talk to any of the existing Run Directors to find out more info on what's involved. We'll provide training as needed.

Next Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be the 'Spring Festival' in George Clayton Park. Lots of activities and entertainment on offer with the Saturday program commencing at 10am. So plenty of time to enjoy Wynnum parkrun, have Breakfast, then head to the festival :)

We'll swap RD jackets next week with Alan reprising the RD role he first did 14 years ago, and I will be Funnel Manager!

There is lot's going on in Wynnum next weekend. As well as Wynnum parkrun's 14th Anniversary which we will celebrate with cake and parkrun at 7am as usual there is also the "Spring Festival" on Friday/Saturday/Sunday, just down the road in George Clayton Park.
The festival starts at 10am on Saturday, so plenty of time to do parkrun, get brekky and enjoy the fun at the festival.

If tomorrow is your first time at parkrun or first visit to Wynnum parkrun then please attend our friendly first time welcome at 6.50am. For everyone else please attend our mandatory safety briefing at 6.55am so we are all ready to parkrun by 7am.

The Council are continuing with the path edge repair works from Pandanus Beach to Turn 2. Please take care and leave space for parkrunners and other path users and listen carefully to our safety brief.

Now winter is over it is time for people to collect all that cold weather gear left behind over last few months! We'll have it for collection for the next 2 Saturdays before it is donated to local op shop.

Remember we have our 14th anniversary coming up in 2 weeks, Saturday 12th September. That will be a good one to volunteer at, as a way of thanking the 1,660 people who have volunteered a total of 10,403 times over the last 14 years which has allowed 20,015 people to finish 179,274 times!

🎉 Congratulations to all 359 parkrunners who joined us at Wynnum today!

Today was Pacer Day, and our fabulous team of volunteer pacers helped 44 of you achieve new PBs! 🥳 Congratulations!

🏃 Our first finishers today were:
⭐ Tom Wolhuter – 16:21, finishing first at Wynnum for the first time
⭐ Kate Andrews – 19:35 and a shiny new PB!
