2026 Mens Pennant Season

The 2026 Golf SE Mens Pennant season got underway last Sunday and the MGGC have once again nominated 2 sides. MGGC Black in Conference 1 captained by reigning Kevin Young cup winning captain Michael Cutting, and MGGC Red in Conference 2 captained by Nic Clayton. The squads are:

MGGC Black: M Cutting (C), B Schroder, J Shanks, P Reade, M Bowering, C Scerri, S Foote, J Agnew, C Brooks, J Jennings

MGGC Red: N Clayton (C), P O'Donnell, S Parsons, R Parsons, S Fiegert, M Rookas, T Geddes, J MacLean, K Sykes, J Wheatley

The MGGC Black team got the long trip out of the way early, travelling to Kingston to take on cross town rivals, Blue Lake White. With very little in handicaps separating each match, on paper it looked like being a cracking match and this proved to be true with 3 of the games going to extra holes! In the end, the Blue Lake boys held their nerve in the close ones, getting the win 5 matches to 2. Wins for our boys came from Matt Bowering (3/2) & young gun Blake Schroder playing at No. 1 with a win on the first playoff hole.

The MGGC Red side travelled to Naracoorte for their first up match of the season, taking on the team from Lucindale. This was always going to be a tough match up with the handicap matches having to give up a combined 46 shots but the boys were up for the challenge!! Unfortunately though , it proved to big a challenge with the boys going down 5 matches to 2 also. Wins came from Pat O'Donnell (8/6) and skipper Nic Clayton (4/3), an impressive win from the skipper having to give away 10 shots!!

This week will see the Black team head down to Millicent to take on the team from Robe while the Red side heads over the hill to Blue Lake where they play against the team from Bordertown, best of luck guys!!!

COURSE BULLETIN – GOLF CART RESTRICTIONS

Following recent rainfall and to protect course conditions, the Course Committee has implemented the following temporary cart restrictions:

🚫 No carts on fairways

βœ… Carts are to remain in the right-hand side rough at all times.

βœ… Players are asked to park in the rough and walk to their ball if it is on the fairway.

βœ… Fairways should only be crossed when absolutely necessary and only where conditions permit.

These measures will help minimise turf damage, reduce compaction and maintain the quality of the playing surfaces during this wetter period.

We appreciate your cooperation and thank you for helping look after the course.
