Golf Croquet Combined Doubles 20+
This event was held on Tuesday 11th August at Hutt Road with 11 teams.
The challenge for Kim Millhouse, the Events Coordinator was to fit it into one day. The solution was to have two Blocks with a winning team for each Block.
Brighton Croquet Club managed the event and started the day using the super soakers to get some of the accumulated water off the lawns. They were quickly supported by players to get the lawns ready for the days play. A consequence of the damp lawns was no ‘jumping’ was allowed, extending the players to employ different strategies.
Play was tight in both Blocks with many games being won by only one hoop.
Players came from a variety of clubs, but the most outstanding were the six players from Woodville (our fastest growing club in South Australia).
Supporters arrived during the day from North Adelaide, Hyde Park and Millswood and the players certainly appreciated it.

We recently held training sessions for students from Woodville High School. This formed part of their curriculum “Outdoor Lifestyles and Recreation” – Stream (HPE). Everyone involved had a great time learning new skills and working together.

Woodville are Winners!

Today, Woodville Croquet Club entered 3 pairs in a Doubles Tournament where each pair had to have a combined handicap of at least 20.

Ben and George were the winners of their block, undefeated with 5 wins!

Although the other Woodville members were not as successful and despite wet lawns and tough competition, they persevered and still had a smile at the end of a very enjoyable day. Great effort Team Woodville!

Congratulations to Geoff from Woodville Croquet Club, the new Chair of the Gateball Australia Management Committee.

Have you heard of Gateball?
It’s a mallet sport like croquet, it’s extremely fast paced where 2 teams of up to 5 players score as many points as they can, hitting their numbered balls through the 3 gates within 30 minutes.

The game was invented in Japan and has a huge following throughout all of Asia and is credited with being the key to longevity.

GATEBALL AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCEMENT

In January 2026, the CA Board endorsed the establishment of a Gateball Australia Management Committee (GAMC) to guide and grow the operations of Gateball Australia.

We welcome the GAMC officers, who were appointed by the Board in March as:

The GAMC assumes responsibility for work undertaken by the Gateball National Coordinator (NCGB) role and several Gateball committees (GAMC TOR).

We thank Ros Crowe for her work over the past 4 years in the NCGB role, particularly growing the sport, increasing the professionalism and governance processes of Gateball, and raising Australia’s profile on the international stage.

Welcome Findon High School!

Woodville Croquet Club recently hosted approximately 20 students from Findon High School over several days, coaching them in Golf Croquet.

The students and staff had a great time and enjoyed learning all things croquet as well as learning about:

Thinking several shots ahead
Assessing risk vs reward
Adapting strategies based on an opponents actions
Good sportsmanship & respect for opponents

Thank you Findon High, we can’t wait to have you on our lawns again.

School Holiday Sports in full swing at Woodville Croquet Club today.

This program is an initiative run by the City of Charles Sturt with 18 clubs across the region offering 65 activities.

The program enables kids up to 17 yrs of age to:

- Try new or different sport FREE of charge
- Increase their level of physical activity
- Learn about a healthy lifestyle through sport
- Boost their self-esteem and self-confidence
- Make new friends
