A massive birthday shoutout from everyone at the MRM Wombats to Ciaran Kirwan. We hope you have an awesome day celebrating with family, friends, and your fellow Wombats. 🥳🎂
Since first pulling on the boots for Masters Football in a pre-season hit out against Bendigo last year, it's been fantastic having Ciaran as part of both the Woodend and now the Macedon Ranges Masters Wombats family. From day one, he's brought enthusiasm, commitment, and a genuine community spirit to the club. 🏉🟢⚫️
Ciaran is one of those people who somehow manages to fit a lot into life. Whether he's travelling interstate for work, coaching local soccer, spending time with family, or representing the Wombats, he's always giving back to the community around him. That's something we greatly appreciate and admire.
One of the highlights of having Ciaran involved with the club is when he brings his two joeys down to the Woodend or Kyneton burrow. The Wombats have always been about family and community, and it's great seeing the next generation around the club enjoying the atmosphere and becoming part of the wider Wombat family. 🐾
Whether it's at training, on game day, or catching up around the club, Ciaran is always up for a laugh, a chat, and getting involved. The Wombats are stronger for having people like him as part of the pack.
Thanks for everything you bring to the club, Ciaran. We hope you've had an absolute ripper birthday and enjoyed every minute of it. 🐾🟢⚫️

A massive birthday shoutout to Nathan "Smudge" Rudderham, with all of us at the MRM Wombats wishing Smudge and his family a fantastic birthday 🥳🎂
Smudge is one of those people who makes a footy club better simply by being involved. He juggles the commitments of work, family, and life, yet somehow always finds a way to contribute to the Wombats, and we're richer for it.
Across 2026, Smudge's efforts were recognised when he took home the inaugural MRM Wombat of the Year Award. It was a well-deserved reward for a year of putting the club first.
When Tobes has been unavailable, Smudge has jumped behind the wheel and driven the bus. He's been a key part of the Game Day Crew, helping make sure things run smoothly each week. And he's even stepped up to deliver the post-match speeches, sometimes under significant duress, but always with good humour and commitment. 🎤😆
Whether it's at training, on game day, behind the scenes, or lending a hand wherever needed, Smudge is always willing to step forward and do the job. That's what makes him such a valued teammate and clubman.

🐾🟢⚫ Treasurer's Report – Thank You, Reedy ⚫🟢🐾

At our AGM, Reedy delivered his Treasurer's Report for the final time before stepping down from the role, bringing to a close an outstanding period of service to the MRM Wombats.
While the Treasurer's role is often one of the least visible jobs in a football club, Reedy's impact has been felt in every corner of the Wombats. Through countless hours behind the scenes, he has kept the club's finances in excellent shape, helping put us in a strong and sustainable position as we continue to grow.
But Reedy's contribution has extended far beyond the numbers.
He has played a major role in securing sponsors, building relationships within the community, and helping establish the foundations that have made our inaugural season such a success. He has also been the driving force behind much of the club's social calendar, helping create the events and opportunities that have brought Wombats together off the field and strengthened the culture we're so proud of.
Reedy has been a key contributor in committee meetings throughout the year and played a significant role in organising and delivering a successful AGM. When things needed doing, he was always willing to roll up his sleeves and get stuck in.
And somehow, amongst all of that, he's still found time to cheer on his Joey in the U19s, where you'll often find Reedy volunteering as the runner, continuing his commitment to grassroots football and supporting the next generation of players.
The reality is that clubs like ours don't happen by accident. They are built by people who quietly contribute their time, energy, and expertise for the benefit of others. Reedy has been one of those people from day one.
On behalf of everyone at the MRM Wombats, thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to the club. You've left the Wombats in a fantastic position, and we're incredibly grateful for everything you've done.

🐾🟢⚫ MRM Wombat of the Year 2026 – Smudge ⚫🟢🐾

Every club has people who make a difference.
Then there are people who are the difference.
Congratulations to Smudge, the inaugural recipient of the MRM Wombat of the Year award.
When Tobes hasn't been available, Smudge has jumped behind the wheel and driven the bus. He's been a constant at training. A contributor on game day. A valued member of the committee. Whatever the club has needed, Smudge has been there.
Tough. He played. He fronted up week after week and wore whatever the day handed him.
Relentless. He trained. Wombats dig all night, every night, and nobody watches them do it. The burrow doesn't appear on its own. Behind every successful club are people doing the work when nobody is looking, and Smudge is one of those people.
Unshakeable. Playing or not. Fit or not. Rain, hail or shine. He's there doing whatever the day needs. You cannot shift him.
The inaugural Wombat of the Year needed to be someone who embodied what this club stands for: commitment, mateship, resilience, and putting the team before yourself.
That's Smudge.

🐾🟢⚫ President's Report – Thank You, Jules ⚫🟢🐾

At our AGM, Jules delivered his final President's Report, bringing to a close a remarkable chapter in the story of the MRM Wombats.
As our inaugural President, Jules helped guide the club through a memorable first season. His report reflected on plenty of highlights, from long bus trips and great camaraderie, to tackling trees, and most importantly, welcoming so many new players into the Wombat family.
Jules has been a driving force behind building the culture we are so proud of today. A culture where everyone is welcome, friendships are formed, and the AFL Masters philosophy of Footy for Fun is at the heart of everything we do.
Founding a club is never easy, but Jules has led with enthusiasm, dedication, and a genuine passion for bringing people together through football. The foundations laid this year will continue to benefit the Wombats for years to come.
Thank you, Jules, for your leadership, your vision, and your commitment to making the MRM Wombats what they are today.

🐾🟢⚫ Club Appreciation – Coach Chew ⚫🟢🐾

When you look at what the MRM Wombats have built in our inaugural year, there are a number of people who have helped shape the club. At the forefront of that has been Coach Chew.
Alongside Jules and Plow, Chew has carried the bulk of the coaching and training responsibilities throughout the season. His football knowledge is second to none, but what stands out most is his ability to get the best out of others. Whether you're a seasoned footballer or pulling on the boots for the first time in years, Chew has a way of making everyone feel valued and capable of contributing.
Coaching an AFL Masters Vic Country side is no easy task. Balancing competitiveness with the spirit of Footy for Fun, managing personalities, and keeping everyone engaged takes patience and commitment. Chew takes it all in his stride.
This year he's also been supported from the sidelines by Showbags, and we're grateful for the encouragement and support they've both brought to the Wombats community.
One of the things we admire most about Chew is that he always puts the team first. Even when carrying injuries of his own, he's continued to turn up, lead, support teammates, and do whatever is required for the benefit of the group.
Like every club, we've faced moments of adversity and difficult decisions throughout the season. During those times, Chew has consistently led with compassion, integrity, and respect. Those qualities have helped shape the culture we're proud of today and set the standard for what it means to be a Wombat.
Thank you, Chew, for your leadership, your dedication, and the countless hours you've invested in our club. The MRM Wombats are stronger because of your efforts, and we're incredibly grateful to have you leading the way.

🐾🟢⚫ Club Appreciation – Tobes ⚫🟢🐾

Some people wear a lot of hats around a football club. At the MRM Wombats, Tobes seems to wear them all.
Our revered bus driver, making sure we get to and from games safely. Our trusted first aid officer, patching us up and keeping us going throughout the season. And when the siren sounds, he's the man you want in the back pocket, playing the role of lockdown defender and making life difficult for opposition forwards.
Outside of football, Tobes is a long-serving member of the Gisborne and SES Woodend Unit, dedicating countless hours to helping the community in times of need. We're sure that all that training comes in handy when dealing with a busload of Masters footballers each week.
As a teacher, community volunteer, teammate, and clubman, Tobes embodies everything that makes community sport great. He's always willing to lend a hand, put others first, and do whatever is needed to keep the club moving forward.
The reality is that clubs like ours don't function without people like Tobes. The jobs he does often happen behind the scenes, but they make a huge difference to everyone involved.
From all of us at the Wombats, thank you for your commitment, your service, your reliability, and your sense of humour. You're an absolute legend and we're lucky to have you in the green and black.

🐾🟢⚫ Club Appreciation – Junior ⚫🟢🐾

At the MRM Wombats, we often talk about the AFL Masters philosophy of "Footy for Fun", but that culture doesn't just happen on its own. It takes special people to set the tone, create the right environment, and ensure everyone leaves the ground with a smile.
For us, that person is Junior.
Quite simply, Junior is the best umpire in the AFL Masters Vic Country League. More than making decisions on the field, he understands what Masters football is all about. He knows how to manage a game, keep things in perspective, and create an atmosphere where competition and camaraderie can exist side by side.
Junior's contribution extends well beyond the boundary line. His dedication to community sport is evident through his work with the Castlemaine Goldfields Soccer Club, as well as the countless hours he gives to football across the region.
The MRM Wombats are incredibly grateful for everything Junior does for our club and the wider sporting community. People like him are the backbone of community sport. They give their time, energy, and passion so that others can enjoy the game we all love.
Clubs like ours simply don't exist without people like Junior.
