Thanks to Rod & Shane for supplying our home cooked yummy finger food of vol au vents, mini quiches & sausage rolls, enjoyed after our meeting, along with a celebratory glass of wine🍷🥂😁

When our calendar has openings we play Interclub challenges with both Mt Macedon Petanque Club( The Rock & Ranges) & Maldon Petanque Club(The Dig)
We have many Social functions too, from the President’s Cup, Long Lunch, Bastille Day, Murray Maul, visiting local wineries, gin distilleries & supporting local businesses.

Thanks to our Tournament sponsors: RT Edgar Real Estate, Woodend and to Macedon Ranges Shire Council for our continued tenancy at both of our play areas at the beautiful Hanging Rock & the Racecourse Reserve, Woodend.👍

We always welcome new Members to try our great game of Petanque , which is all inclusive & can be played by all age groups.

Why not pop down & see us on any Monday at the Racecourse Reserve, just next door to Buffalo Stadium, from 2pm - 5pm.
Thursdays from October, daylight savings time, we play at Hanging Rock from 3pm through until 7pm, where we enjoy 3 games, followed by a very social BBQ.

Today, Saturday 5th September, the final Round of the Golden Boule 2026 took place at Ballarat Petanque Club.
7 North West Regional Clubs participated in this competition over the last 4 months, playing each other on Saturday mornings.

All 3 games today were hotly contested in fine weather, even some sunshine greeted us, after heavy overnight rain.🌞
Yummy morning tea by Mt Macedon PC was enjoyed after game 1, played by 6 Clubs, with Mt Macedon having a bye.🍰

At the completion of 3 games, lunch was supplied by all players, with lots of tasty home baked goodies.🥧
Our Club, Woodend Hanging Rock Petanque Club (WHRPC) had a winning day against Maldon PC, scoring 19 points to 11 points.👏👏

Today Woodend Hanging Rock Petanque Club travelled to Avoca for Round 6 of the Golden Boule.
As usual we were warmly welcomed to the Pyrenees Petanque Club, which only 5 days ago had all their pistes totally underwater, when the Avoca River burst its banks. You would never have guessed, as the area looked great.👍

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we did not field a full Team of 10 Players, but played with 9, trying our hardest to match it with the Pyrenees Team.
Despite our best efforts, drawing in Round 1, we dropped away badly in Rounds 2 & 3.
Pyrenees were the very worthy Winners on the day by a convincing margin. Well done guys👏👏👏
We were treated to a scrumptious morning tea between games, lots of home baked cakes, slices & goodies.🧁🍰🥮
At the end of play, the Pyrenees then topped the day with a BBQ lunch of sausages & hamburgers, with many assorted salads to fuel us for our trip home.
A big thanks to all the PC for your hospitality, continued friendships & camaraderie.

Woodend Rock Petanque Club celebrated holding the Murray Maul again at the Port of Echuca, over the weekend, Friday to Sunday, 7th to 9th August with 35 Players from the North West Victorian Clubs of Ballarat, Bendigo, Mt Macedon, Nagambie, Pyrenees. Smythesdale, & of course our very own Club competing.
Most gathered for Happy Hour drinks & dinner on Friday evening at the Star Hotel. Paul, the Owner has been part of our traditional weekend for 16+ years, providing Saturday & Sunday lunches for our party of players. We have run this event for over 20 years in Echuca and provide huge support to the local businesses in both Echuca & Moama. Plenty spend extra days, retail shopping, visiting wineries, galleries, Murray river cruises & general meandering around.🥂🚂🍷
Saturday was a sunny, cool day, with a very competitive 5 games played on challenging ground. Lots of strange shots & plenty of fun enjoyed by all!🌞
Sunday the rain arrived early, & we managed to play only 1 game with depleted numbers, due to the conditions.☔️
The leading players on Saturday winning all their 5 games were Jane Scheggia (Pyrenees PC) & Wayne Mee (WHRPC).
Sunday winners were John Naylor (Nagambie PC) & Shirley Marshall (WHRPC)
A big congratulations to Jane, who has been a real stalwart at this event over the years, being the outright Winner of the Murray Maul 2026.
A very popular & worthy winner 🏆 🤩

Also, a big thanks to Peter Wells for dealing with our draw & scoring, and always assisting us over many many years.👏👏👏
To the hardworking Committee well done on another very successful & fun weekend, with great camaraderie enjoyed between our Country Clubs.
Looking forward to next year.

On a beautiful sunny Winter’s day over 30 players came along to join us at the Racecourse Reserve to celebrate Rod Gell’s very special 80th Birthday.🎁 🎈

Rod is an integral part of our Club, passionate & enthusiastic in everything he puts his hand to.
He is on our small Committee of 5, working tirelessly to make sure our outdoor spaces, the pistes, gardens, murals(art/ logo courtesy of Rod), plus all our equipment, clubhouse are looking great.
He always has a smile on his face & nothing is too much trouble for Rod.😁

After our 2 games, we all sang a raucous “ Happy Birthday Rod”, then enjoyed a yummy chocolate mousse cake with real cream, along with red & white wine 🎂 🥂🍷

It was lovely to see the camaraderie & joy on people’s faces celebrating with Rod.🌞

A great afternoon was enjoyed by all as the pics below show……..,,

Yesterday, Saturday, 4th July, WHRPC hosted Smythesdale Petanque Club at Woodend's Racecourse Reserve, for the third round of the Golden Boule.
The morning's weather was characterized by a series of changes, shifting between sunshine, misty rain, cloud, and clear blue skies.
Our thanks goes to Robyn and Rohan for providing a tasty morning tea, which was enjoyed after games 1 and 2.
All games were played with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, culminating in Woodend's victory, with 8 wins to Smythesdale's 4 wins.

Following the games, our team and some members of the Smythesdale team adjourned to Holgates Brewhouse for a hearty fireside lunch, fostering camaraderie and supporting local business.

A good day was had by all!

Today we visited a “Hidden Gem (Gin!)” in our beautiful area of the Macedon Ranges, the Campaspe Mill Distillery in Kyneton, for a few games of Petanque.
We were warmly welcomed by Owners, Bill & Helen and resident Bengal cat, Archie, who was fascinated by the game, chasing a few Boules!!!

The weather was cool & a little misty, but that did not deter 12 hardy Petanque aficionados from enjoying the challenge of a new spot to test our skills.
This historic 1856 Victorian bluestone property has been transformed by Helen & Bill into a magnificent craft gin distillery, bistro, gallery & museum.
Following one game, we all adjourned to the upstairs bistro & enjoyed a leisurely, warm & hearty lunch, with many sampling the gin as well ( great feedback given). Think a few bottles may have found their way home too!

After touring the museum & gallery, some went to play more Petanque in the lovely gardens & surroundings.
A good day was had by all!
Thanks to Helen, Bill & Archie.🍸

We are a community sporting club, that loves to support our local businesses throughout the year.
We always welcome new inquiries & members.
Currently in Winter, we play at The Racecourse Reserve, Forest St, Woodend( next to Buffalo Stadium) on Monday & Thursday afternoons from 2pm.
Call in & see us, but, beware, it can be addictive.😀

Yesterday morning at the Racecourse Reserve, Woodend, our Club hosted Bendigo Petanque Club for Round 1 of the Golden Boule Competition, played between 7 of the North West Regional Petanque Clubs, over May to August.
Not only did we enjoy some sunshine, but also some very competitive, closely fought & pleasant games between our 2 teams.
Woodend were the victors on the day winning 8 games(20 points) to Bendigo 4 games (10 points). Well done to all players.
A yummy morning tea was provided by Maria & Lola, savoury & sweet, which kept us all sustained to complete our games. Thanks Ladies, & to all Club Members for preparation, set up & take down as well.
As is our tradition, we invite the visiting Club to join us at a local venue for lunch after play. So 20 of us then enjoyed food, fun & camaraderie at the Victoria Hotel, Woodend for a few hours together.
A lovely way to wind up our day by supporting our local businesses.
