Yesterday morning at the Racecourse Reserve, Woodend, our Club hosted Bendigo Petanque Club for Round 1 of the Golden Boule Competition, played between 7 of the North West Regional Petanque Clubs, over May to August.
Not only did we enjoy some sunshine, but also some very competitive, closely fought & pleasant games between our 2 teams.
Woodend were the victors on the day winning 8 games(20 points) to Bendigo 4 games (10 points). Well done to all players.
A yummy morning tea was provided by Maria & Lola, savoury & sweet, which kept us all sustained to complete our games. Thanks Ladies, & to all Club Members for preparation, set up & take down as well.
As is our tradition, we invite the visiting Club to join us at a local venue for lunch after play. So 20 of us then enjoyed food, fun & camaraderie at the Victoria Hotel, Woodend for a few hours together.
A lovely way to wind up our day by supporting our local businesses.

A big congratulations to our Club Member, Shane Wellington on his first ever Tournament Win at Maldon on Saturday, 9th May, on a lovely sunny day🌞
Shane along with Giselle Whiteaker (St Kilda PC) & Michael Vissenjoux( Dove PC) played in the Forster Cup, Mixed Triples.
24 Teams competed on the day.
They were the only team to win 5 games, so a big thrill for Shane, who naturally was ecstatic.

Shane has been playing Petanque at both of our venues at Hanging Rock & the Racecourse Reserve for approximately 6years, and is very passionate about the game.

Well done Shane🏆👏👏👏

Thursday 30th April, we had 22 players enjoy 2 competitive games of petanque at the Racecourse Reserve, Woodend in beautiful Autumn sunshine. Rod then treated us all to barbecued marinated spicy green tomato rounds, with relish, parmesan cheese & crackers, plus roasted chestnuts 🌰Along with a glass of wine, this went down a treat, ready for us all to then play another game to top off the afternoon.🌞

Saturday, 2nd May saw 4 of our Members travel to Bendigo Petanque Club in Kangaroo Flat for their first ever Tournament on the Victorian Calendar.
22 Mixed Triples Teams competed, with Rod Gell playing with Peter C, Mt Macedon PC, & Anne A, Bendigo PC coming 8th.
Shane Wellington, Rohan Dickson & Shirley Marshall winning 4 out of 5 games came 4th (only 1 Team won 5 games, with 3 Teams winning 4 games)- a great result.😁
Well done to all at the Bendigo Petanque Club for a very successful Tournament. Another venue for us all to enjoy in years to come.

Sunday, 3rd May saw 6 of our Members travel to Nagambie for the Nagambie Cup Doubles.
Unfortunately, the weather gods were against us, & hit with a vengeance during our first game, with thunder, lightning & heavy rain. Despite a couple of stops & starts, it was deemed unsafe to continue, so the Tournament was cancelled.
Thanks to Nagambie PC & all their hardworking members for your efforts & we will be back.

To come & try this great game of petanque, please feel free to join us on Monday & Thursday afternoon from 2pm at the Racecourse Reserve, Forest St, Woodend (next to Buffalo Stadium), during Autumn & Winter.

FINAL NIGHT AT HANGING ROCK FOR THIS SEASON
A pleasant time enjoyed by 26 of our members. Last night at Hanging Rock until daylight saving returns in October. We have had 6 months of great fun and camaraderie.
Hanging Rock is a lovely environment, beautiful gum trees, many kangaroos and those fabulous cheeky kookaburras.
AND great people as well.
We finally got to celebrate Shirley's recent Victorian Championship Women's Singles win and all raised a glass of bubbles in recognition of this fabulous achievement
This was also presentation night for our Hanging Rock Challenge which was concluded a couple of weeks ago, and the winner is ... Shirley, excellent result with Graham coming in 2nd, well done both.
Just a reminder that Thursday play now reurns to Racecourse Reserve 2.00 for 2.30pm

A huge congratulations to our own Shirley Marshall on being the winner in 2026 Victorian Championship Womens Singles, played at Dove PC on Sunday, following a closely fought Final against Tina Genovese from St Kilda Petanque Club.

Today 23 Players enjoyed a Long Lunch of yummy home cooked food, quiches, snacks, pies, salads, fruit & cakes on a beautiful afternoon- our very own ”Picnic at Hanging Rock” - no one disappeared that we know of!!!

We then all played 3 games of petanque in the dappled shade with many great shots and lots of hilarity throughout the afternoon.
A good day was had by all🌞

Also a big shout out to our Australian Team playing NZ in the Trans Tasman at Mt Martha this weekend too. Especially to all the Victorian Players ( many of my Teammates over the years), play well, enjoy & bring the Trophy back to where it belongs.

23 Players enjoyed a beautiful sunny afternoon at Hanging Rock today, starting with our Long Lunch of yummy home cooked food, salads, dips, snacks, fruit & cakes. Our very own “Picnic at Hanging Rock” - we did not lose anyone today, that we know of!!!
3 Games of petanque were played, with some great shots, much hilarity and all in all just a perfect afternoon.

Wow, yesterday, 14th March was an exciting day for our Club, when we held our Woodend Mixed Triples Tournament at Racecourse Reserve, Woodend.
The weather was perfect, with 26 Teams competing over 5 competitive games,with many great shots & plenty of sportsmanship shown throughout the day.
A big thanks to Peter Wells for managing the Draw & Scoring, as always doing a professional job.
Also, to our hardworking Club volunteers for all the preparation, working bees, cooking, set up, take down, manning the raffle, coffee, tea & cake,/slices stations. It could not happen without this enormous support to our small Committee of 5. Thank you everyone, the venue looked fantastic.
17 Club Members also played on the day.
