HAWKS MILESTONE ALERT: 100 A GRADE GAMES FOR SARAH DUFF! 🚨
Woodend-Hesket family, let’s get loud! Today, we are celebrating one of the longest serving and absolute greatest to ever wear the brown and gold. Our inspirational A-Grade midcourt superstar and captain, Sarah "Sezzy" Duff, is officially running out for her 100th A Grade Game! 🦅💛🤎
Sarah is the epitome of a true "homegrown" Hawk. Her journey with the Hawks started all the way back in 2013 as an 11-year-old playing in our club’s very first junior netball team (the 13/u’s) at the Woodend Junior Football Netball Club. Fast forward through an incredible junior career—which included 100 junior games and 3 junior premierships—Sarah transitioned to senior netball at just 14 years old taking the court in A Grade and quickly evolving into one of the most dominant and respected players in the league.
Becoming the first player in club history to reach this A Grade milestone, "Sezzy" has built a resume that speaks for itself.

👏Sarah’s Resume:
* 🏆 3x Junior Div 1 Premierships (13/u, 15/u, 17/u)
* ⭐️ Represented in multiple RDFNL Interleague Teams
* 🏅 2x RDFNL League Best & Fairest Winner (13/u 2015 & 15/u 2016)
* 🥇 Numerous Junior Club Best & Fairest awards
* 🙌 WHFNC A Grade Rising Star (2017)
* 🏅WHFNC A Grade Best & Fairest R/up (2017)
* 🏅RDFNL League Best & Fairest R/up (17/u 2018)
* ⭐ RDFNL Rising Star Winner (2018)
* 👑 2x WHFNC A Grade Best & Fairest Winner (2018 & 2025!)
* 🌟 RDFNL A Grade Team of the Year Wing Attack (2022)
* 🏆 2 x A Grade Premierships

From fighting back from an ACL rupture at just 16 years old to leading our A-Grade squad with a fierce, competitive, "never-say-die", team first attitude, Sarah's speed with change of pace, netball smarts, and pin-point accuracy feeds to our shooters makes her a pleasure to watch play.

Off the court, she’s just as important to the club. Whether she's supporting our teams on the sidelines, helping around the club or bringing the fun to our functions, Sarah lives and breathes the Hawks!

Get down to the court at Romsey today to pack the sidelines, wear your brown and gold, and cheer on our captain as she leads the girls onto the court for game 100 and the chance for a 4th A Grade premiership in a row!
Congratulations Sezzy—we love you, we appreciate everything you bring to this club, and we can’t wait to watch you dominate! 🦅💪🏐 # Sarah Duff

100 SENIOR CLUB GAMES FOR ANGELIQUE DOHERTY! 🏐
Today on Grand Final day we celebrate a massive milestone as homegrown young gun Ange Doherty takes the court for her 100th senior club game! 🦅💛🟨
Ange does it all, 19/u player and captain, A Grade mid courter, club umpire and an absolute joy to be around.
Ange has come through our juniors at the Woodend Junior Football Netball Club right through to our senior program 2022 as a 15 year old in our 19/u team and representing the RDFNL in the 17/u Interleague team that year.
Ange started filling in for our A Grade team in 2025 and this year has qualified for finals. She brings high energy and enthusiasm to the court, even after just playing a full game in the 19’s.
A zippy, flashy and powerful pocket rocket, Ange has always had a special something on the court. Always eager to improve and take on new challenges, Ange has added structure and patience to her game and fits seamlessly into any team she plays for.

Take a look back at an incredible journey so far:🌟
Senior Success:
19/u WHFNC B&F R/up (2024)
19/u WHFNC B&F Winner (2025)
A Grade Rising Star (2025)
A Grade Premiership squad member (2025)
Invited to League Presentation night (2026)
Making the successful leap into A-Grade, Ange is an inspiration for any junior aspiring to play at the highest level in the league.
Please join us in wishing Angelique the absolute best of luck for her milestone match during today’s A Grade Grand Final!

🏐 MEET YOUR 2026 A GRADE GRAND FINAL TEAM 🤎💛

This Saturday our A Grade Netballers take the court chasing something this competition has never seen — a fourth consecutive premiership. Five straight Grand Final appearances. Year after year, this group has shown up, competed and delivered when it mattered most.

What makes this team so special is not any single player — it is the collective. From the shooting end to the defensive circle, from the midcourt to the bench, every person in this group contributes. Relentless pressure. Disciplined structure. Deep commitment to each other.

There are players who have come through our junior ranks and worked their way to the top of the competition. Seasoned campaigners who know how to win big finals. Young players who have stepped up this season and proved they belong at the highest level. Together, they are a formidable unit — and they are chasing history.

PAST PLAYER PROFILE - PETE CAREY

Pete Carey's story at Woodend starts in the late 70s as a junior, and like all the best ones, it's shaped by great people, great mates and a broken arm at Melton South.

Pete came through the junior ranks at Woodend, winning a premiership in the Under 16s in 1983 under the legendary Stan Nicholls - and taking out the Best and Fairest that year for good measure. By 1984, at just 16 years old, he was lining up in senior football. Built like a stick by his own admission, he played mainly as a winger despite loving the midfield, running alongside some outstanding talent.

His senior career at Woodend came to an abrupt end - literally - when he broke his arm in a game against Melton South at Melton and spent the night in Kyneton Hospital. The following year he followed Shane Muir to Kyneton.

Pete speaks warmly of the players he shared a ground with: Shane Muir, Chris Heizer, Paul Kurzke and Flea Gatehouse all close behind. And then there's Pup Bowen, who Pete remembers as the bloke who would dislocate his shoulder every game and have the trainers whack it straight back in!

Pete's journey took him to North Ballarat in 1993, where he found a home in coaching and administration and never really left. He became a Life Member - something he is very proud of - and is now the local senior team manager, watching his son Isaac play the game he loves.

His message to the current group says it all: "The great thing about footy clubs is connection and relationships. No matter where you play, the friends you make is what makes being involved worthwhile. Always live in the moment - whether playing, coaching or volunteering. It's a great time of year to still be playing."

Well said, Pete.

Are you a past player or do you know one? We'd love to hear from you!
