Yesterday we held a very early much needed working bee. When this writer arrived at the correct time of 8;30 the club was already buzzing with workers it was hard to find a parking spot. Bert whipper-snapping, Mike & Phillip mowing the edges, Gerry crawling on the ground fixing the hoops, Barbara rolling up the hose, Michael and Tom checking out the mower, Sue P & B tyding up the freezer, Denise washing the balls, Kathy, Neil & Bert digging up the weeds etc, etc. Then Sue P made some beautiful scones for morning tea and Marj provided the jam. It was the best working bee ever, Finally finished off with our usual morning of croquet in perfect weather. Thank you everyone who came along to help.

Over the past weekend several members participated in Phillip Is level play singles. In section 1 Marj P & Virginia, section 2 Neil and in section 3 Sue P & Kathy. On the Saturday 3 members travelled over to cheer on our team and catch up with friends from Williamstown and Sale. The weather was lovely and warm, then on Sunday we again made the haul to watch Neil play in section 2, who came runner-up with 5 Wins and 2 losses from Alison Young of Ivanhoe Park. Finally on Monday 3 of us again travelled to watch Kathy and Sue P play in Section 3. However, the weather wasn't as kind and it was very cold, windy and almost rainy. Kathy and Sue both had 3 wins and 3 losses with Kathy pipping Sue on hoops +10 to +3. Well done guys.
and, a big thank you to Phillip Is for a great tournament and we mustn't forget Kevin from Morwell who was ref for the 3 days.

Last Wednesday we held our AGM, with all committee posts remaining the same for one more year. During this meeting all the Club championship shields were presented to the winners of all our internal comps. But, the best was saved for last. The presentation of the "Barbara Fraser Award". This award is given to the person or persons who have given a lot of their time without the club asking them in many ways, e.g. maintaince of the grounds, fixing things arranging the Bunnings BBQ's etc. This year it was awarded to Michael Barber & Bert Orr. Weldone guys you realy deserved this.

Yesterday we hosted the BassCoast shield. This is an annual tournament between Wonthaggi, Korumburra, Leongatha and Phillip Is. Unfortunately last years winners Korumburra were unable to enter a team, which ment each team had to only play 2 matches.
Our team consisted of Sue P & Phillip playing the singles while Kathy & Gerry played doubles along with Marj and Michael.
First up Leongatha played Phillip Is in the singles, while We played Phillip Is in the doubles. Over all we beat both Leongatha and Phillip Is 3 games to 1, with the final result Wonthaggi 6 Wins 52 hoops, Leongatha 4 wins 47 hoops and Phillip Is 2 wins 39 hoops.
A big thank you to Sue and Marj for organising the afternoon tea, and it was lovely to catch up with the member from Phillip Is who came to watch.
Next year its Korumburra's turn to act as host.
