Over the weekend 2 of our members were asked to play at Cairnlea in the Victorian GC August Selectors Tournament, along with several others from Gippsland.
Virginia and Denise did the club around. With Virginia finishing up with 6 wins 5 losses -4 Net hoops, and Denise with 4 wins 7 losses -15 Net hoops. well done.

Today we celebrated a fun day with the courts finally 95% dry and fit for play bar the usual area by the flagpole.
It was great to see so many members turn up, especially Michael who's been away in Queensland for 6+ weeks and Kathy who has been visiting family up North. Unfortunately no sign of the birthday boy who is probably still celebrating with family.
A big thanks to Sue P who instead of playing spent her time in the kitchen preparing lunch (party pies, sausage rolls, chips, pancakes with jam and cream) to celebrate our return to croquet.
See you all on Wednesday

Today instead of playing we went swimming, some even tried playing croquet using a canoe. Both courts were flooded and with probably take a week or so to dry out. Having been with the club for many years this is the send time in many years were the greens have been under water. Even the road to Kilcunda was flooded.

Next weekend Virginia and Denise have been invited to play at Cairnlea, along with Mary from Traralgon and Kevin from Morwell. Great to see Gippsland so well represented.

Catch up soon friends

Yesterday we celebrated our traditional Christmas in July. Starting off early with a couple of games before getting down to business in the kitchen, setting the table and cooking.
A big thanks to Sue P on cooking the spuds, dessert, gravy etc. Marj for laying the tables, John for shopping and "Rosie" for picking up the chocks from IGA. Also everyone who bought either a dessert or salad and a mystery gift.
After the main meal we had a surprise visit from that guy dressed in red taking all the credit for such a great day. Gotta feel sorry for those members who missed out. Mind you the one in Queensland and one keeps on about how warm it is up there, snorkelling and now sitting back having a cold b**r he will keep.

The weather may have been a bit bleak but that did not stop the Wonthaggi doubles teams taking out the top three places in Division 2 at the weekend tournament hosted by Leongatha. Winners were Barbara Heesh and Virginia Wheeler (6wins 1 loss) with Neil Warburton and Rose Inglis (Sandringham) coming second (5 wins, 2 losses), and Phillip Bool, teaming up with Stephen Wilbourne, rounding out the results in 3rd place (4 wins, 3 losses). Sue and John Priller were placed 5th over all. Division 1 was taken out by Alistair and Denise McCougal from Boort. Wonthaggi's only representatives in Division 1 were Sue Baker and Tom Lacey managing 3 wins and 3 losses, the same as three other teams but beaten out of 2nd place on hoop difference.
Next week the club will be celebrating its annual "Christmas in July" with a fun day of croquet, indoor games and general chit chat over nice food.

A very busy weekend for many members this weekend. Nine of us travelled to play in the Phillip Is doubles along with 6 from Sale, 2 from Leongatha, 1 from Korumburra and 1 from Morwell plus Kevin from Morwell who acted as Ref. A big thanks to Claire from Phillip Is who teamed up with Neil (He had been dumped again by his regular partner), his nick name these days is the dumpster. Also thank you Phillip Is and all your helpers and kitchen staff, it as much appreciated.
We had Tom & Sue, Barbara and Phillip, Marj and Sue (Rosie), Sue P and Robin (Leongatha), Kathy and Terry (Korumburra) and The Dumpster and Claire so quite a big squad. When Marj picked me up at 7am the sun was just beginning to rise, but by the time we headed down towards the Island the mist was very thick and difficult to drive in. However, it gradually lifted to become quite a pleasant day. Although Wonthaggi & partners did come out on top we still did the club proud, and getting a good couple of pennant teams forming. The next tournament several are off to is Leongatha at the end of July.
