The Breakers took on Langwarrin in perfect conditions for the Saturday twilight clash.

The small ground provided an easy avenue to goal with the Breakers taking full advantage. Alyssa Dennis enjoyed the wide wings, using her pace to push the ball forward.

Two quick first quarter goals saw Ella Cargill notch up her 100th career goal with the Breakers adding another 3 for the quarter.

Despite the score line, Langwarrin put up a good fight through the midfield with Annie Dempsey, Cloe Booth and Lily Jack working hard to create space and clear the stoppages.

With Sophie McCracken-Evan’s in the ruck providing the mids with first use of the ball the steady stream of goals continued.

Key forwards Tiarnie Ellingworth (4), Ella Cargill (3) and Immy Bradford (3) provided great targets all match. 8 other Breakers also hit the scoreboard including Jorja Tiziani who kicked her first senior goal twice - after having her line adjusted by the umpire after her first attempt.

Tess Wingfield was another to impact the scoreboard, showing her class in a rare forward outing.

Final Score: Breakers 18.14-122 def Langwarrin 2.1-13

Today we recognise IDAHOBIT — the International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

The Breakers believe sport should be a place where everyone feels they belong. We’re proud to continue building a community where people can show up as themselves, both on and off the field.

As part of our commitment to inclusion we joined with representaives from and Glen Alvie Cricket Club to under take a education session this week.

We would like to thank everyone involved in making our Friday Night Pride Match possible.

Taking the field for their fourth annual PrideCup Match the Breakers started well, winning it out of the middle and scoring their first goal via a strong mark and set shot from Tiarnie Ellingworth 4 minutes in. The match tightened up after that with Edi-Asp unable to convert their opportunities in front of goal. The second quarter started in a similar fashion with a kick with just the right amount of spin putting Annie Dempsey on the board early on. However this time Edi-Asp were quick to respond with their first goal of the match. It didn’t take long for the Breakers to score again with Lily Jack sneaking a goal from a loose ball in the goal square. Another goal for the home side came late in the quarter to Ellingworth who had a breakout performance, providing a strong forward target. Despite a couple of goal lead going into the second half, kicking against the wind the Breakers knew they couldn’t let up however weren’t able to convert on their opportunities. Fortunately, Edi-Asp also not able to utilise their chances the Breakers were able to maintain their lead. The crowd were entertained at half time by Magnolia Starr and the Q***r Cheer Scream Queens as part of the Pride Round celebrations. Chloe O’Malley once again controlled the backline with her run and carry down the wing a highlight for the crowd. Cloe Booth was another key contributor through the middle and back half. The last quarter started with a direct tap from the stoppage to Immy Bradford who snapped a goal from the pocket off one step. The work rate of Annie Dempsey and Sophie Bolding in the contests allowed the Breakers to maintain possession throughout the last quarter and hold on for a great win.
Final score: Breakers 5.7-37 def Edi-Asp 1.6-12 Goals: Tiarnie Ellingworth 2, Immy Bradford, Lily Jack, Annie Dempsey Best: Chloe O’Malley, Immy Bradford, Tiarnie Ellingworth, Cloe Booth, Tess Angarane.
This week they travel to Langwarrin for a twilight clash Saturday 4.45pm. In the lead up to IDAHOBIT on 17 May the Breakers would like to thank Gippsland Pride Initiative for collaborating on this years pride event. By joining forces we show up, speak out and stand together against discrimination.

So why is a match important?

Sport has always been more than just the game, it’s about belonging, connection, and community. That’s why hosting a march allows the Breakers to show up, speak out, and stand together against discrimination.

We encourage other clubs to get involved. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as:
🌈 Wearing rainbow or pride colours at training or on game day
📣 Sharing a message of support across your club channels
🤝 Having a quick team chat about inclusion and respect
📚 Taking time to learn more about LGBTQIA+ inclusion in sport
🏳️‍🌈 Hosting a Pride-themed round or moment this season

Every action, big or small, helps create safer, more inclusive spaces where everyone can play.
