🏐 PLAYED NETBALL YEARS AGO? THIS ONE’S FOR YOU!

WDNA’s Open Mixed Sunday Competition isn’t just for current players. We’d love to see some of our former players dust off the runners and get back on court!

Whether you played last season, 20 years ago, or haven’t touched a netball since school … gather some friends, family or workmates and make a team.

✅ Fun, friendly and social
✅ Open mixed teams
✅ Sundays from 4.30pm
✅ Starts 4 October
✅ Seven rounds plus two finals
✅ $350 per team
✅ Teams provide their own umpire

You don’t need to be young, super-fit or playing serious netball. Just come along for some fresh air, a laugh and a bit of friendly competition … creaky knees welcome! 😆

This is also WDNA’s 22nd annual charity competition, playing for the shield and a local charity.

🏐 For 22 years, Sunday mixed netball has brought our community together.

There have been family teams, groups of mates, footballers discovering that netball might be a little harder than it looks 😆, former players returning to the court and plenty of friendly rivalry along the way.

Most importantly, every year the comp has played for something bigger ... supporting a local charity and making a difference within our own community.

Now it’s time to gather your people and be part of year 22.

Our Senior Mixed Comp starts Sunday 4 October, with games from 4.30 pm. It’s social, affordable and open to club teams, workplaces, families or simply a group of friends who want to play.

🏐 Seven rounds plus two weeks of finals
🏆 Playing for the shield and a local charity
💜 Team entry: $350
📣 Teams provide their own umpire
📅 No games on 1 November
🏅 Finals: 29 November and 6 December

You don’t need matching uniforms or years of experience. You just need enough people willing to give it a go.

Tag the teammates you’d bring, or send this to your group chat where all great ideas begin!

Registrations are open now!

💚💜 Happy Father’s Day to our WDNA dads

There are plenty of jobs at netball that never make the scoresheet.

Like the dad who helped set up and pack away the goal guards, week after week. Thank you.

The dad who arrived to find the courts covered in leaves … and grabbed the big outdoor broom and swept them away so the courts were safe to play on. Thank you.

And those very wet Saturdays when dads were out there between quarters sweeping pooling water off the courts with those heavy metal scrapers, just trying to keep the games going. Thank you.

They carried gear. Helped with scoring. Set up tables. Cheered from the sidelines. Took photos. Braved some truly ordinary Wonthaggi weather. 😂

And, importantly, there were the dads who backed the mums doing their bit too … because community netball works best when everyone pitches in. 💜💚

No fanfare. No big deal made of it. Just seeing something that needed doing and getting on with it.

So today, to all the dads who have been part of WDNA in big ways and small:

Thank you for all you do.

Happy Father’s Day. 💚💜

Different jobs. Same team.

🏐 FINALS FEVER IS STILL GOING! 🏆

While our WDNA Saturday season might be done and dusted, we know there’s still plenty of netball being played across leagues and associations this weekend!

To all our local clubs, players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and supporters heading into finals … GOOD LUCK! 💜💚

Whether you’re playing, umpiring, coaching or cheering, enjoy every minute of it.

Play hard. Play fair. Back each other. And have FUN. 🙌

From all of us at WDNA … go well this finals weekend! 🏐✨

A big shoutout to Phillip Island’s 13&U team after a terrific season in our Saturday Junior Comp! ❤️🤍💙

The girls made it all the way to the Preliminary Final and should be very proud of the way they played and represented their club throughout the season.

We’ve also heard Phillip Island will be bringing even more junior teams to WDNA next year … which is fantastic news! We can’t wait to see plenty more red, white and blue around the courts in 2027. 💜💚

Some stories aren’t told through scores or trophies.

They’re told in the hours spent beside a court. In the nervous first whistle. In the quiet word of encouragement after a tough game. In turning up again … and helping someone else find the confidence to do the same. 💜💚

This is part of Libby and Taleah’s story.

Throughout 2026, Libby has led our umpire program with enormous dedication. She took on the responsibility of supporting our umpires, strengthening the pathway and helping create a place where people could learn, grow and feel that they belonged.

And beside her was Taleah … learning, supporting and steadily stepping up.

Together, they’ve given their time and energy not because they wanted recognition, but because they care deeply about our game and the people in it.

Both are now working towards earning their C-badge. When those badges come they’ll represent far more than passing an assessment.

They will represent courage, persistence, countless games, lessons learned and the many times these two dedicated women chose to show up for their community.

Libby and Taleah, we see what you have given. We see how hard you have worked. And we could not be prouder to have you both as part of the WDNA family.

Your next chapter is only just beginning, and we’ll be cheering you on all the way. 💜💚

💜💚 WDNA LEADS VICTORIA IN PARTICIPATION GROWTH!!!

Wonthaggi & District Netball Association has been recognised by Netball Victoria as the state’s fastest-growing netball association or league in 2026.

WDNA recorded an extraordinary 149.7% increase in participation, growing from 169 participants at the same point in 2025 to 422 participants in 2026 … an increase of 253 people.

The result placed WDNA at the very top of Netball Victoria’s list of affiliates by percentage growth, ahead of associations and leagues from across regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne.

WDNA President Virginia Hunt said the figures reflected both the strong demand for community netball across Wonthaggi and Bass Coast and the enormous contribution made by volunteers.

“This isn’t simply a great set of numbers. It represents hundreds of local children, teenagers and adults being active, making friendships, developing confidence and feeling part of their community.”

“It also reflects the extraordinary work of our committee, coordinators, umpires, coaches, team managers, clubs and volunteers, who continue to create more opportunities for people to participate.”

WDNA’s expanding calendar now includes its Saturday Junior Competition, Ladies Indoor Competition, umpire development programs and twilight and mixed netball opportunities … providing pathways for participants of different ages and experience levels.

The Association’s growth also demonstrates the increasing need for strong facilities, sustainable partnerships and continued investment in community sport across the region.

“When a local sporting association grows at this rate, it shows what is possible when passionate volunteers and the community get behind a shared vision,” Virginia said.

“It also brings new challenges. More participants mean more teams, games, umpires, volunteers, equipment and pressure on facilities. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Bass Coast Shire Council, Netball Victoria and our community partners to ensure our infrastructure and support keep pace with that growth.”

WDNA thanks every player, family, club, umpire, coach, volunteer, supporter and partner who contributed to the achievement.

Number one in Victoria for growth … and building an even stronger future for community netball in Bass Coast. 💜💚
