So why not come along and see what it's all about. SBBSU is a target shooting club that shoots fi****ms at the South Burnett Shooting Complex, at the end of R***e Range road in Wondai, Queensland. We shoot handguns and 22 ri**es, a match called 'Bushrangers" and black powder fi****ms. The event details are posted in the calendar. We shoot at paper and metal targets at various distances. Visitors are welcome to attend 30 minutes before their event starts to complete their competition shooting requirements. $30 covers entry, instruction, use of a .22 caliber fi***rm and 50 rounds of am******on to put down range. Current photo I.D, enclosed footwear and a squeaky clean past, , should see you clear to participate.

This Saturday is our MEMBERS ONLY .22 R***es Benchrest Competition.
The day starts at 09:00 with a pistols session to which visitors are welcome as usual.
The program then is 22lr iron sights silhouettes, scope silhouettes, lunch and paper targets.

South Burnett Shooters Union is now approved to conduct QLD SINGLE ACTION WILD BUNCH Shooting under Shooters Union Qld rules, which are modified to meet Qld fi***rm laws.

Wild Bunch is closely related to our Bushrangers Single Action competition and rules.

Competitors take turns shooting their lever action r***e, coach gun and a 1911 handgun at metallic targets, with a timer running. Missed targets and mistakes incur a time penalty.

Adding to the atmosphere of the early 1900's, our Black Powder range looks authentic, built many years ago with bush poles and recycled corrugated iron. It's surrounded by the Wondai State Forest bush land, with a just- completed lot of earthworks, smoothing the ground, as well as the access track that winds through the bush.

But there's been a lot of invisible work in the background that got us here.

Big "Thank Yous" go to Jan Linsley and Shooters Union Queensland for working tirelessly with Queensland Police Service on tailoring the rules and on the pathway to approval for Shooters Union Qld affiliated clubs. To John Hinricks and Wondai R***e Club, who hosts us at their range and worked to have Wild Bunch added to the range approval. And to our working committee and the same hard-working members who seem to show up and make everything just happen.

This coming Saturday 29 August is our normal fifth Saturday of the month Working Bee for members only.

We will set up the new Wild Bunch layout and give it a shoot.

We can then go to the clubhouse for a BBQ lunch where we can have explained to all of us the small technicalities of the Qld Wild Bunch rules as they differ from our Bushrangers.

And after lunch we can shoot some bench rest r***e.
So it’s our normal Working Bee format with something for everyone!

BUSHRANGERS annual competition - 11 July 2026.
Tomorrow is our members-only Bushrangers competition. The day will start with a short session for pistols at 09:00, to which guests are welcome as usual.
The rest of the day is a members-only competition, and visitors can stay and watch.

Its our annual bushrangers competition tomorrow.

Pistols will be at 9am

Bushrangers will start at 10.30 am.

Please come along and compete if you are a member, or be a specator. Bushrangers is great to watch.

Each shooter is racing against the clock but not wanting to miss, because a miss adds 5 seconds to their score.

It's a four gun competition using period-appropriate guns from the turn of the century 1800 - 1900. A pair of single action revolvers, a lever action r***e and a double barrel coach gun.

BLACK POWDER SHOOTING - Excitement at South Burnett Shooters Union

Yesterday's annual black powder competition had everything in it for the young and the not so young. Off-hand shooting in two phases with some perfect phases, which is saying something.

Our final target in a phase is our "Split The Ball". A target with a sharp axe head facing the shooter, and two side rectangular plate-targets on chains.
A miss to either side hits a side plate and moves it on its chain.
A perfect hit SPLITS the ball and it impacts both side plates.
Yesterday was one of those one-in-a-million days with three competitors splitting the ball shooting off-hand from 15 yards from two attempts: Rusky, Ol' Rooster and Irish the overall winner.
