While we sit sidelined it doesn't mean our support doesn't. SFR have partnered with Jack and the team since he started with us on the crew back in 2016. We will continue support in our own small way but here's your opportunity to get behind him and the team too....

A silver lining at Gold Cup
Humbled was the word for the opportunity I had on Saturday night. After Gold Cup done it was time to focus on the Speedcar 50 Lapper.

I got the call from Brian to help out driving the parade Vintage Speedcar for the highly decorated 50 lapper event. On any day that in itself is an honour.

What makes it double special was that the car was the Scarem Sid Middlemass 54 Volvo just days after the announcement of Sid's induction into the Speedway Australia Hall of Fame.

For my wife, our girls and her family this is an opportunity to do something for people they consider extended family.

Alan Day gave me the instructions on what to do, how to ensure I gave the fitting wave and most importantly how to make sure the can ran as expected.

The honour of the moment was as humbling as it was enjoyable. Knowing Sid was up in the stands with Leanne Middlemass and Brian meant the only measure I cared about was that I did it right for them.

After the laps done pulled in and soaked it up. Before the race finished I asked and got the nod from Sydney International Speedway to pull it up for presentation. I figured why hold back an opportunity to promote the heritage and nostalgia of what the event means.

Congrats to Kaidon Brown and his team on the win.

Thank you Brian Linigen, The Wilmington's, Vintage Speedcar Association (NSW) Inc and the Speedcar Association of NSW for the opportunity to do this. A treasured memory for life.

Gold Cup not our night
Unfortunately it was not a great night as far as Gold Cup was concerned. Going into it crook as, i wasnt expecting to even run but i did manage to get some heat races in.
With a crazy quick pre program turn around time was limited. By end of heat 2, I was qualified 8th for feature but looking at very short turn around then 20 laps.
Being sick i simply couldn't do it so I stepped aside and Jack Selmes jumped in for the feature.

Left the car tight, which was a bad call, so Jack certainly had his hands full on a hammer down track. 15 laps in he looked solid I went back to the trailer and that's when it came to an end. Our new engine dropped a valve.

Hate it for Jack as it's completely out of his control and totally unexpected. Could have happened to me, him or worse, in a months time 5hrs away at Liddell.

So now we regroup again. See how bad the damage is and repair it.
We'll be back for sure

Its been a hectic April so far on the back of a busy March too. Working big hours and living life in a soup of flat out but somehow it came together with some racing this month.

The NSW Title was back at Eastern Creek taking on Sydney International Speedway for the first time since dropping the old engine in November. Very grateful just to be back on track with the help that came our way to do it.

Happy to say with help on hand from Cam Hughes and my girls I was there with enthusiasm to get a result we can be proud of. I gambled on setup for a dry slick track before the event but we were hammer down most the night. Cam turned the setup and we made something of it.

Home in 5th pretty happy with that! Engine didn't miss a beat for 20 laps and we had our share of speed through the night.

With a week to turn it around and another crazy week at work right into Friday night, Cullen Bullen was a show I wasn't expecting to get in. Grateful to say we did, tiered but there.
Heat races went well but I missed the mark in the feature for sure. Thought I had a suspension issue with it pushing like a dump truck, so I pulled in to be sure. Last thing we need is a torn up car right now and any mistake was likely to find the wall or ruin someone else's day. A rare DNF but the right call to fight another day.

In another unexpected twist I was fortunate enough to be offered a drive of Ronnie Sheers vintage sprintcar too. It's been a minute since I last drove a big one (the Pass N18), and it was nice to say compared to the 410 it's comfortable out there. Some power steer issues made it a steady run but afterwards it gave a surprise lights out on the way back. Nothing I could do but throw the hands up and laugh. Didn't see that one coming .

Now time to regroup and get some much needed down time around the busy work schedule.

Thanks to those who make it all possible especially my loving family behind SFR.

On this day 3 years ago I was honoured to find a place in the history books forever. I never expected to roll out first, let alone have the chance to be the first car to see the chequered flag... but yep it happened.

First ever race at Eastern Creek = First win

Thanks so much to a mate right back to RC racing, David Wykes for taking these pictures of that moment.

Delayed post:
I've been very fortunate to find an engine locally in Nowra and strike a deal that got us on track sooner than expected. It came at a cost though. For the first time in my career with Lightning Sprints I was unable to make the Australian Title as both competitor and official. I was there in spirit watching closely online and helping anywhere I could from a distance.

We also missed the NSW Compact Speedcar Title in Sydney. It was one I had planned to run having recently registered the car before the engine expiry.

From here though it's a limited season taking one show at a time as funds permit. For our extended sponsors it's a chance to regroup.

We were back on track at ACT Speedway 1st February using it as a test and tune with the new 2019 R1M engine package put through its paces.

It was a relaxed night not pushing it at among tough track conditions, just getting the data we needed to be sure everything was on on point after our old faithful engine expired in December. Back on our trusted reliable Penrite Oil it didn't miss a beat.

Despite taking it fairly easy still managed to find some speed and made a solid run from the back of the feature to claim 5th for the Strata One Hard Charger.

Perhaps the best part of the night though was getting to run with our new team partner Chippy back on track again, having Birko in the pits with us and also facing a new challenge... racing with both our girls boyfriends 🤣🤣🤣.

While Chippy had a tough night, Leo and Jack both ran great. No surprise to find myself battling with both those boys toward the end there.

It's pretty cool to have so many great mates across this division and our family so widely involved too (even back west). No matter who I end up racing there is always respect and fun there. A great reminder of why I do all this.

The final word goes to my wife. Without her support, none of this would be possible.

Here's to the next one...

Call for help
Its been a few weeks since the last show but tear down of our 2015-19 Yamaha R1engine has confirmed oil failure / oil breakdown as the culprit that caused the engine to lay over. Some basics:
* RPM was in conservative range 13500 max (revcut is 14400)
* RPM at detonation 11200
* Fuel pressure constant
* Oil pressure at detonation 65psi
* Temperature normal 180 deg F
* Oil pickup and sump system has 8 years of proven success in my setup
* This was show 2 of a trial oil product after 6 years of running Penrite oil in this engine without issues.

The engine tear down shows heat marks on cams, cam journals, crank across 3 of 4 rods and bearings on all 4 pots. Cases are done in 3 spots, bearing bridge gone and piston has slapped the head, so valves will need replacement too.

Unfortunately this proves the heat range in the oil has been exceeded or something of that nature, but the end result is now we need a full replacement engine. 2016-2019 Yamaha R1M engine CP4.

As a guy who always puts his club first i will be there all the way to help out while we look for a way to secure a replacement engine.

We have found a replacement engine, but the value is a high end 4 digit figure and we just dont have it especially going into xmas. Its a number that exceeds this teams annual race budget.

I'm not one to do go fund me for my hobby. There are many worse struggles in life for others thats for sure.

But i will put the call out now for any business that would like to get involved in this team in a big way. If this is of interest to you, please drop us a message or tap Pete on the shoulder.

All good engines go to heaven - season ending night for N45
It wasnt our night last night. After 6 years of reliability and fun with this R1M engine it finally let go. Gutted to say the least. But when its been 8 years since i last blew one I have to say im also grateful.

While i still need to tear down to confirm it, i know it was choice to change oil that did the damage. The new trial Penngrade oil was just way too thin, struggling to hang in with the heat we put through it. I expect the data will show that when downloaded.

Over my years on advice of Jettco i have always run Bike grade Penrite HPR4ST 10/40 full synthetic and this engine has taken so much worse than it did last night. To that end i blame myself for not doing my background checks there before making a change. Belly has never steered me wrong.

Its 6 shows in from rebuild but last night just as the tyres were coming on for a great race, it layed over and kicked a leg out of bed in the feature. This is a huge blow for our budget team.

There is no spare engine. There is no budget to replace it.

But we will rebuild. No idea how long it will be to bounce back but one thing we dont do is give in. With a plan for a newer car to give me more comfort in the seat already underway i guess an engine will be part of that now too....

Again thanks to my wife Catherine, Jack, Jamie Lee and Holley for crewing through the night.

To my supporters and partners massive shout out for making it possible.
