Yep it’s Winter🥶 and a handful of IKO”s are heading off to Lithgow/Rydal country for 3 days of bush orienteering for the long weekend. We wish them luck.

A CLEAN SWEEP for IKO metroleaguers today on Uringa’s Bogabilla map at Lansdowne across all divisions. Rain was forecast but didn’t eventuate so very pleasant conditions for running. The courses were set in mostly runnable vegetation and the park itself was quiet from other users. Some good cross country options for those confident enough to leave the tracks.
How did we do?
We may have been a team member down against GO in Div 1 but strong runs from Joel and SHOO teammate Euan got us across the line for a win with help from Angus and Phil.
In Div 2 a SHOO/IKO win against GO/UR/CC although there were no IKOs on board for this round so all credit to SHOO’s.
In Div 3 a SHOO/IKO win against GO. Pippa going from strength to strength having jumped up from last year’s Div 5.
In Div 4 an IKO win against SHOO. Artem scored 10pts for the team as well as coming 1st overall in the division.
In Div 5 a SHOO/IKO win against Knox.
Some great individual times today Joel 3rd in Div 1, David 3rd Div 3 and Artem 1st Div 4.
Solid performances all round. Well done teams. Next metro event #4 will be 28 June - Pennant Hills

COOTAMUNDRA - 16&17 May
Well if you don’t enjoy rocks and we are talking about big rocks here, then “Split Rock” in Cootamundra probably isn’t the map for you. Although there wasn’t any cootamundra wattle in sight the scenery was stunning, the rocks baffling leaving some participants scratching their heads. The map was used on both days with the same finish chute and assembly area. No 1st’s for IKOS this weekend but a handful of 2nd and 3rds so well done to Vicki, Michael, Peter and Margaret. We thought we’d have a bit of fun and combine finish chute times over the 2 days and looking at the splits the fastest overall was PIPPA with 35 seconds, closely followed by David with 38 seconds and Michael with 42 seconds. Nice work everyone.

METRO #2 3 MAY
It might have been a postage sized map but it certainly packed a punch for metro-leaguers today at Galston. Judging by some of the long times recorded across all divisions both minds and bodies were tested. We had some wins with Div 1, 3 and 4, Divisions 2 and 5 not so lucky. Some great individual results from Maxim, David, Ian, Joel and Glenn. 16 IKO’s entered with 15 placed in teams. A great turnout and perfect conditions for a run in the bush. After the event some of us popped over to the persimmon orchard cafe “salt” across the road where we rewarded ourselves with a well deserved drink and bite to eat. Thanks to everyone who ran today and especially to those that travelled for 2+ hrs to get there. Now that’s dedication to the sport for you!

What a weekend - SL 3&4. NSW Sprint Champs on Saturday at Western Sydney Uni, Soapy Flat Mittagong on Sunday. We had some great results across the two days from club members. Congrats to placegetters. Thanks Western & Hills Orienteers & Southern Highlands Orienteers
