“I’m worried my child is shy and won’t participate…”

We hear this all the time from new Lil Shining Stars parents — and please know, it is SO normal.

Some little ones walk straight into class confidently…�and others need a little more time to feel safe, comfortable and ready to join in.

Every child is different
For some kids it takes 2 weeks to settle.�For others it can take a couple of months — and that’s okay too.

At this age, so much of dance is actually about building confidence, trust, routine and independence. Sometimes they spend the first few classes simply watching, holding a teacher’s hand, or standing quietly — and that is still progress 💕

The biggest thing we encourage parents to do is:�don’t panic and don’t give up too quickly.
Children often surprise us once they feel comfortable in the environment 🌟

Some of our most confident performers today started as the quietest little dancers in the room 🥹

Here at NRG, our Little Shining Stars program focuses on developmental milestones, not just skills 💫

Our “Sparkle Moment Milestones” celebrate all the little wins that build strong foundations for learning and confidence. In Term 1, our athletes work towards goals such as:

⭐ Going into class independently
⭐ Staying on their spot and following their teacher
⭐ Moving through circuits and waiting their turn
⭐ Using their listening skills (hands to self, putting their hand up, answering questions)
⭐ Developing coordination through movements like skipping, hopping and balancing
⭐ Building musicality by clapping to the beat, moving to music and following simple dance sequences

Every child develops at their own pace, and that’s something we truly value. We create a supportive, encouraging environment where each athlete is given the time and confidence to grow.

Some children are building independence, others are refining focus — and every milestone achieved is a Sparkle Moment worth celebrating ✨
