There’s something truly special about coaching someone for years, watching them grow, evolve, and push further than even they once thought possible.
I’ve had the privilege of coaching (and treating as a physio) Michael Bilboe for over three years. In that time, we’ve navigated more than our share of challenges, injuries, setbacks, and big goals that most would consider impossible. Yet through all of it, his commitment and discipline have never wavered.
Because of that dedication, he now stands on the start line of Red’s Backyard Ultra not only in the best physical shape of his life, but completely free of niggles. That’s an enormous achievement and the result of someone who has done everything possible to prepare; physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Michael is one of the most selfless, genuine people I know, the kind who gives endlessly to others, even while chasing goals that demand everything of him.
Our coaching relationship has become something really special over time. We completely understand each other. There’s full trust, total commitment, and a shared belief in the power of presence — in the process, in stillness, and in the moment. That connection has become the foundation of his strength.
He’s tackled some epic challenges before, including previous Backyard Ultras — but this time he’s taking it to another level. There’s no set finish line, just a commitment to keep going, hour after hour, for as long as it takes.
Michael, you’re an inspiration — not just for what you’re about to do, but for who you are and how you do it.
👊 All the best out there, mate. The entire AP10 & wider Ultra community is behind you.
