Training after 30 isn’t about proving that you can still train like you’re 20.

It’s about understanding your body well enough to keep doing what you love for years to come. Push when it’s time to push. Slow down when it’s time to learn. Take recovery seriously. Build strength. And don’t let ego turn something small into weeks away from the mats.

Ask ten people why they train Jiu-Jitsu and you’ll probably hear ten different answers.

For one person, it’s competition. For another, it’s the hour of the day when their mind finally switches off. Someone else walked through the door wanting to get fit, learn self-defence or become more confident. And some simply found a group of people they genuinely enjoy being around.

The interesting part is that the reason you start isn’t always the reason you stay.

You might come for the workout and stay for the community. Come for self-defence and discover confidence. Come because a friend convinced you to try one class and eventually wonder what you used to do without it.

A belt can tell you a lot about someone’s experience in Jiu-Jitsu. But it doesn’t tell you everything about the kind of coach they are.

At Grappling Bros, coaching is about much more than demonstrating techniques. It’s knowing how to teach the beginner walking onto the mats for the first time, how to challenge the experienced student who wants to reach another level, and how to create an environment where people feel supported enough to learn, make mistakes and keep improving.

Technical knowledge matters. Experience matters. But patience, leadership, communication and genuine care for your students matter too.
