It's fantastic to see our adult athletes progressing in this Martial Art.

Dougie (left) and Ayen (right) both recently received a stripe on their belts each for dedication to themselves and their teammates in training.

It's amazing how in our adult lives, we can make excuses for not dedicating time to OURSELVES.

Doug and Ayen participate in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for their own benefit, with well-being being the primary reason.

Before de Been Wodonga had a team, an Academy or even a set of mats, it began with an idea.

The owner and head coach, Greg, started his Jiu Jitsu journey back in 2007.

Being in the military, Greg has trained across the country, with his roots starting in the Mornington Peninsula at Juggernaut Jiu Jitsu (now Phoenix Training Centre, Maddingly, Vic).

The military moved him over to South Australia, Darwin and finally here in Wodonga.

Greg's been an avid competitor, competing internationally and against Olympic Judo champions, Commonwealth Wrestlers and BJJ world champions.

Originally looking to head back to South Australia to open up a de Been Academy in the Adelaide Hills, family circumstances required him to stay locally and in 2017 de Been Wodonga became a staple in the local community.

One thing that Greg has tried to do, is share his passion for the Martial Art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to the broader community, as he can see how positive this Martial Art can be in the lives of others.

The rest is history.

Throughout the month, we’ll be celebrating the history, people and values that have shaped de Been 100% Jiu Jitsu Wodonga.

From our humble beginnings to the Academy community we have today, our story has been built by the athletes, parents, coaches and families who have supported us along the way.

September is the month for 'Martial Arts Appreciation!'

The best place to start with this is at the beginning.

What was once a dream became a reality, and on April 3, 2017, de Been 100% Jiu Jitsu, Wodonga opened its doors.

Greg and Donna started off by setting an information stand at Wodonga Lakes at a colour run followed up by working the Wodonga Plaza shopping centre, speaking with 100's of people. Some of whom still train today.

Congratulations, Scarlet, on receiving your new yellow/white belt.

Scarlett came up from the P*e Wees at the start of the year into the Juniors, and it was like a duck taking to water.

Scarlet has shown dedication to her training and her teammates, and demonstrated the qualities required to be promoted from grey belt to yellow/white.

Well done Scarlet!
