With the weather on the improve, we've made the move back home with our first training session at the Hill confirmed for this Sunday, 13 September 2026 from 3.30pm.

💪 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐎𝐑𝐒 𝐂𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐒 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔/𝟐𝟕 💪

We're pleased to announce our captains for all senior grades for the upcoming season.

Starting in the A's, we couldn't be happier to confirm Harrison Burgess will skipper our First XI for the 4th straight season. Harry's dedication & commitment to the club are second to none & sometimes it's easy to forget he only recently turned 22 but after captaining the club to our first A2's Premiership when he was only 19, we couldn't be in better hands. Supporting Harry will be fellow young gun Cooper Kupke, fresh off winning our A Grade Batting Aggregate & Average last season; Kuppers also brings valuable District Cricket experience, having previously spent several seasons with Sturt.

With Hayden Biddle moving into our Senior Cricket Co-ordinator role this season, the B's will be led by the man, the myth, the legend that is Oliver Lukins. After 173 seniors matches, featuring more than 2,000 runs, 100 wickets, 85 catches & 3 Premierships, Oli is stepping up for his first official taste of captaincy, however, he did step in for a couple of matches two (2) years ago whilst Bids was away on his Honeymoon. Supporting Oli will be another youngster, Flynn Samardzic. After a breakout season in 2023/24 when he scored 390 runs @ 55.71 in C's, Flynn has spent the past couple of seasons primarily in B's whilst also playing a handful of matches in A's & A2's & will continue his development by stepping into a leadership position for the first time.

Finally, Muffin-Man Hennessy will officially take the reins in the C's this season. At 58 years of age, Bobby has seen & done it all on the cricket field (Play HQ shows almost 3,500 runs & 400 wickets despite a significant portion of Bobby's career stats being missing) yet he continues to age like a fine wine, highlighted by his absurd accomplishment of taking a hat-trick in back-to-back matches last season. Bobby will be supported by veteran Echidna, Jordan Baltman, who, with 328 matches whilst closing in on 400 wickets himself, also brings a tonne of experience.

We are pleased to announce that the WCC Merchandise Store is now open in advance of the upcoming season. Please note it will only be open until Midnight on Sunday to ensure orders are available in time for the start of the season so make sure to get in quick!

This season we have partnered with Nelson Teamwear and we are pleased to announce a number of new merch options, including WCC playing pants, newly designed training tees & singlets, a new quarter panel jumper & WCC backpacks, whilst several of our favourite items such as woolen playing vests & training shorts are now available to order online for the first time.

For those of you who aren't ready to order yet or miss out, don't worry as we will be re-opening the store closer to the start of the season for in-season deliveries.

Pre-season training kicked off last Sunday arvo with plenty in attendance including a couple of new faces, followed by dinner at the Arkaba.

Don't forget we have another session tomorrow from 4.30pm which will again be followed by an open invitation to dinner, whilst we are also pleased to confirm we have now booked a further session at the Adelaide Oval Indoor Nets for next Saturday evening.

𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐑𝐔𝐈𝐓𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒 - 𝐉𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐊𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐙

We are pleased to announce that Jack Kranz has signed on with the Echidnas for the upcoming 2026/27 season & has already joined us for pre-season training.

A former Mt Barker juniors cricketer, Jack is a talented batter who fits in well with the strong youth movement which we have been building in recent seasons in our higher grades.

After finishing his juniors cricket, Jack spent the past couple of seasons playing in the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association - ATCA down in town with the Goodwood Roos. Last season, playing primarily in B1 Grade, Jack scored 378 runs @ 25.2 with three (3) half-centuries.

For his career to date, Jack's stats include:

• 101 matches
• 2,131 runs @ 21.31
• 11 50s & 1 100 with a HS of 117
• 70 wkts @ 19.51 (econ 3.67)
• Best Bowling of 4/24
• 42 catches
• 5 run outs

𝐃𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐋𝐎𝐏𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐂𝐎𝐀𝐂𝐇 - 𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐍 𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐊

We are pleased to announce the recent appointment of Justin Calderbank to the new position of Development Coach for the upcoming 2026/27 season. Justin will also be joining our senior playing ranks.

Commonly known simply as "JC", Justin brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the Echidnas. He has significant coaching experience, including as the current coach of the Unley Jets' Reserves, whilst having previously also coached Mount Barker Football Club's U18s (including a number of our current players).

An extremely dedicated clubperson, JC is also a life member with Coromandel Ramblers CC but has made the move to the Hill as he now lives in the Mt Barker region. With Ramblers, JC has served in numerous roles on their committee, including as their Senior Cricket Director & was also a 5 x A Grade Captain.

On the field, in a playing career spanning more than 20 seasons, JC's accomplishments include:

• 236+ matches
• 3,300+ runs @ 19.01
• 7 50s & 1 100 with a HS of 103
• 381+ wkts @ 15.83 (econ 3.05)
• Best Bowling of 7/42
• 10 5FAs
• 2 Hat-tricks
• 44 catches

Justin's role as Development Coach will focus on working one-on-one with individual players, particularly with our younger players and players who are looking to step up to A Grade cricket.

We can't wait for JC to get started over the coming weeks.

🏏 𝐏𝐑𝐄-𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 🏏

Yes, it's time already to dust off the whites and pull your cricket bag out of the back of the cupboard as we kick off pre-season training next weekend.

Up first, we have two (2) sessions at the Adelaide Oval Indoor Nets (Favell Dansie Indoor Centre - access is from War Memorial Drive near the South Gate/behind Memorial Drive Tennis Centre) where we'll all have another opportunity to see how fast (or slow!) our bowling is according to the speed gun.

Will Cooper Kupke retain his crown as the quickest bowler at the club? Will Hayden Biddle's slingy action con the speedo into recording 100 km/h plus speeds again? Will the 100 km/h club gain any new members? Be there to find out!

The session details are:-

- Next Sunday, 16 August - 4.30-6.30pm; and
- The following Sunday, 23 August - 4.30-6.30pm.

A club dinner will follow after each session with details to be confirmed at the session.

𝑨 𝑮𝑹𝑨𝑫𝑬 𝑪𝑨𝑷 𝑵𝑼𝑴𝑩𝑬𝑹𝑺

As many of you know, I have worked hard over the last number of years tracking down and entering/recording old scorecards and match results.

As a result, I've now reached the point where, with the exception of the occasional match where results simply can't be located, we have a full history of A Grade results and statistics dating from our inaugural season in the Mt Barker District Cricket Association in 1934/35 through to last season.

One of the things this has enabled me to do is to complete a list of every player to have played A Grade for Wistow, including debut dates and Cap Numbers, which I am now proud to present in the attached images.

I would also like to give special thanks to club legend, Ken Nettle, who retained over 30 seasons of A Grade scorebooks (as well as many more years of lower grade & juniors scorebooks) and Langhorne Creek's Ben Warren, who entered our A Grade player stats into MyCricket for numerous seasons throughout the later 1980s, 90s & early 00s for seasons where we didn't have the scorebooks, saving me what would have been countless additional hours of scrolling through old editions of the Courier on the microfilm machine at the Mt Barker Library.

Finally, there are plans to do more with these Cap Numbers than simply this list, so keep an eye out for further announcements over the coming months.
