We’re simply every day athletes with careers outside of the gym. What we love to do most is lift weights, get PR’s, laugh & have fun. Every now & then we might compete to test our metal in the ring and other times we sandbag because we’ve had a tough day in the office. Taking bets on how many times is going to pull out of Masters Nationals.

Choosing an entry total should be a really easy numbers driven decision but it often cones with our emotions over performance and our expectations around our training.

Understand your numbers and make competition a better experience for yourself.

For almost all our masters athletes the 20kg rule really works in our favour. And as long as we are planning on opening around 10% of our total it’s perfectly fine to just build our totals throughout the year.

If in doubt talk to your coach and just go lighter. It’s better to feel good on the day and take bigger jumps than feel bad on the day and have to lower your attempts.

Of course this is not taking into account large breaks in training or injuries etc as well.

Unlike a lot of clubs that have physical premises, RAW is pretty much a purely online club. We have smatterings of athletes that have been able to create pockets around Australia but our focus remains on brining community and weightlifting to places that might not otherwise have it.

I feel like what makes us so successful is our ability to create a sense of belonging and shared experience remotely.

I’m super proud of what we are building and how it gets refined each year!

My old gymnastics teacher had an adage.

Is it painful because you are hurt or weak? Or have we just not allowed the tissue enough time to deal with the pressure we are loading it through?

A lot of people experience severe discomfort when doing snatches and overhead squats in weightlifting.

It’s a funky position that you’ve probably never spent any time in, let alone time in that position loaded.

For most it will be a matter of time till you build up the tolerance to that extended wrist position.

But for others we may need a protocol to desensitise the wrist to that kind of pressure.

I like these 4 point rocks for that, and if they need extra strength will give athletes simple wrist curls as well.

Wrist wraps are another complementary fix to the above too.

Such a great weekend with new and old lifters jumping onto the platform at the Joe Hensel Memorial Competition this weekend.

This comp has always been a blast to attend with our team as the vibes have always been high.

It hold a special place in my heart as well after learning the history of Joe from his son Carl back in 2017.

I’m so insanely proud of the whole team!

You guys went over and beyond expectations on all fronts.
