A great class isn’t always about keeping kids moving every second
Sometimes the most important part is getting them to stop, listen and learn.

Martial arts teaches kids more than techniques. It teaches them how to focus, follow instructions, be patient, respect their coaches and learn alongside their teammates.

Yesterday we took a small team of our young kickboxers to the ISKA All Valley Tournament in Maitland. Most of these kids competed for the very first time outside of the academy. Some of these kids took to the competition mat like fish in water, others had to overcome fear and adversity to push forward. We had some big emotions on the day, but that is all part of the experience and what better way to build resilience. The 2 hour drive home felt like a short drive to the shops as we gushed over the amazing performances of our students, we are super proud of the performances, but most of all the sportsmanship shown and courage under fire. I posted the full results below.

A big thank you to the parents for making the long trip and supporting each others kids, it was an amazing team environment! Please send us your photos and videos so we can share throughout the week. Whatsapp is the best way to share those.

Finally, just a word on our kids kickboxing program. Our system, developed by Coach Sinem Jenkinson (3rd degree black belt Kenpo Freestyle Karate, 2nd Degree Black Belt Tae Kwon Do, Bachelors Degree Early Childhood) follows the Hawkesbury BJJ philosophy of live training being at the core of what we do. That means lot's of partner drills, pad work and controlled, respectful sparring. The classes are high energy and fun and works great as both an amazing sport or a tool to build confidence and self discipline. The best way to describe our program is modern teaching methods with traditional martial arts values.

Whether you're preparing for your next tournament or simply want to improve your skills, this session is a great opportunity to gain valuable competition experience in a fun and supportive environment.

🕔 5:00pm – 5:40pm: BJJ Sparring (Ages 6+)
🕠 5:40pm – 6:20pm: Point Sparring, Sumo & Sword Combat (Point Sparring Ages 6+ | Sumo & Sword Combat Ages 4+)

Please Note: Our regular Young Hawks BJJ class will still be running at 5:40pm for students who aren't attending competition training.
