A Reserve hosted Port Sorell at Wilmot Recreation Ground, bowling first in what was shaping as a huge finals clash. The bowlers worked hard throughout the innings, but with wickets still in hand Port Sorell were able to accelerate late, finishing at 8-237 from their 45 overs. Matt Last was the pick of the bowlers with a strong spell finishing with three wickets.

Chasing a challenging total, we lost regular wickets early β€” an area that had been a real strength of the side in recent weeks. At 5-43 the game was slipping away before a fighting partnership between Richard Miles and Matt Last brought us back into the contest. Miles compiled a classy 53 while Last backed it up with 60, with Adrian Loane providing some late hitting with 33. Despite the resistance, the boys fell 47 runs short, finishing all out for 190.

With the double chance still in play, A Reserve remain alive with a spot already secured in this Saturday’s Preliminary Final.

B Grade lost the toss and were sent into the field at Byard Park, but from early on things didn’t quite fall our way.

Central Coast’s experienced batting lineup took advantage of the quick outfield and were able to build partnerships, making it difficult for the bowlers to apply sustained pressure. The Crows eventually posted a commanding total of 277.

Chasing the big target, several Wilmot batters got starts with scores in the 20s, but the side struggled to build the meaningful partnerships needed to keep pace with the required run rate. As the chase progressed the task became increasingly difficult, with the boys finishing their 40 overs at 6-165.

While the result brings an end to the season for B Grade, the side fought hard post-Christmas to string together the wins required to make finals and did well to push through to the second week of finals action.

The lads in A Reserve host a home final tomorrow at Wilmot Recreation Ground. After a strong finals performance last week, they’ll be looking to keep that momentum rolling.

Taking on Port Sorell, who have named a deep batting line-up, this shapes as a huge showdown β€” with the winner advancing straight through to the Grand Final and earning a well-deserved week off.

B Grade travel to Byard Park – John Carey Oval to take on Central Coast. Facing a well-disciplined Crows line-up packed with experience, this is once again a do-or-die elimination clash for the boys.

B Grade will be looking to carry their winning momentum into the game against a side coming off a loss last weekend.

A Reserve took on top-of-the-table Penguin at Dial Park, and it didn’t take long for the boys to make an impact with the ball. Matt Last came out firing, ripping through the top order early to have Penguin reeling at 3-13.

The pressure didn’t ease from there, with tight, disciplined bowling making scoring extremely difficult. Last finished with a superb 3-16 from his 9 overs, well supported by Rushton Upton who bowled five maidens on his way to a brilliant 2-6 from his allotted overs. Despite some resistance through the middle, Penguin were restricted to 126, giving us a target the boys were confident chasing.

With the bat, we continued our strong form against a quality Penguin attack. Jordan Marshall anchored the innings with a classy 58, while David Sultas played his usual calm role with an unbeaten 34*, guiding the side home with more than 10 overs to spare and only three wickets down.

A professional performance that keeps our double chance alive and builds strong momentum heading into week two of finals.

B Grade lost the toss and were sent into bat, but it didn’t take long for the boys to make Penguin pay for that decision. Runs came freely early, with several batters getting starts before Laurie β€œlike the πŸš›β€ Williams took control of the innings.
Laurie was outstanding, bringing up a classy unbeaten 102 β€” his first century in around 16 years β€” while Joel Miles (29), Reg Woodiwiss (23) and Lachie Davies (27) all partnered well to build a strong foundation. Late fireworks from Logan Bramich (21* off 14 balls) pushed the total out to an imposing 252.

Defending a big score, the bowlers struck early to have Penguin 3-20 and immediately on the back foot. Penguin fought hard, led by a century of their own, but the required run rate kept climbing and the pressure eventually told. Harvey Murray was the chief destroyer with 4-26, well supported by Thomas Richards and Stephen May as the boys secured a big finals win and moved through to the next week.

A Reserve produced one of their strongest all-round performances of the season at Wilmot, posting a massive total before finishing the job comfortably with the ball.
The innings was built around some powerful batting, with Brock Bamford 55 getting things moving early before Zac Walters 50 and Richard Miles 53* (not out)controlled the middle overs and pushed the total well beyond 250.

Support through the order ensured the momentum never dropped as the boys finished with a commanding score.
Defending a big total, the bowlers backed it up perfectly. Matthew Last 2-27 and Adrian Loane 2-20 helped apply early pressure, while Richard Miles 2-25 and Zac Walters 2-21 again made important contributions with the ball as Port Sorell were never able to seriously challenge the target.
