Saturday was a historic day for GAA as the Townsville Wolfhounds GAC hosted the North Queensland Championship bringing Gaelic Football to the region for the the first time. A highly successful day with over 150 players from four clubs attending.
The Ladies section was dominated by Four Mile Port Douglas as they took out both the Senior and Intermediate titles. A highly talented team with some incredible individual performances made them unstoppable as they went through the day unbeaten and lifted the silverware after beating the Townsville Wolfhounds in the Senior Final.
The Masters Section was won by the Townsville Wolfhounds who played a competitive final against the Townsville Sharks in a hugely entertaining game with both sets of players reeling in the years.
The Men’s Intermediate Section saw the Townsville Wolfhounds emerge victorious in a fast, physical and open game of football that produced some of best scores of the day.
Cairns Chieftains were crowned the Men’s Senior Champions on the day as they overpowered the Townsville Wolfhounds. It was a final for the purest of the sport as both teams gave textbook examples of high fielding, tackling and score taking. Townsville were slow off the mark in the opening half and Cairns capitalised kicking a number of high quality points to gain a lead that they held until the final whistle.
Townsville Wolfhounds would like to thank their sponsors for making the day a success-Shamrock Civil, Kody Dart Belle Property, QPams, Molly Malones.
