Annual General Meeting Update – Whyalla Yacht Club

Today marks the conclusion of another highly successful Annual General Meeting (AGM), highlighting continued growth and progress at the Whyalla Yacht Club. Our membership is steadily increasing, thanks to the leadership of a dedicated and cohesive committee, as well as the tireless efforts of our valued volunteers.

With our membership now exceeding 150, we are pleased to announce the formation of new Working Groups. These groups will help distribute responsibilities more evenly, relieving the burden from individuals and enhancing collaboration across the club.

Sailing
The Sailing Group now comprises James, Jason Storr, and Steve, with Danny K providing additional support. This structure will greatly improve both communication and ex*****on of sailing-related activities.

Slipway
A dedicated Slipway Working Group has been established, led by Danny K and supported by Malcolm, Pete, Mark, and others. This team-based approach will ensure more efficient and reliable management of the slipway operations.

Bar & Kitchen
The Bar continues to be managed by Jason M and myself, with outstanding support from Sue, Leah, Eva, Ronnie, Marion, and several others.
Meanwhile, the Kitchen team has grown significantly, with Eva now managing kitchen operations full-time. She is backed by a fantastic group of volunteers whose contributions are deeply appreciated—too many to name individually without risking omission.

We Have a new Secretary after the retirement of Judy H and a new Treasurer after Anthony has moved away for work commitments, we welcome Ash and Mo to the team.

Looking ahead, the 2025–26 year promises to be one of the most exciting and productive periods in our club’s history, with numerous projects and initiatives on the horizon.

However, it is with mixed emotions that we farewell Anthony and Ryan, who have accepted job opportunities in other towns. Their contributions to the club have been greatly valued, and they will be sincerely missed.

Please remember this Sunday 1st is our AGM starting at 11am. To keep the club vibrant and moving forward we really need you all to turn up and participate. We have positions open and we need people to step up with a few hours a week here and there to help current committee with the usual tasks. We hope to see you all there.

A Perfect Day for the Mal Foubisher Trophy!
Today offered ideal conditions to battle it out for the coveted Mal Foubisher Trophy. Congratulations to Steve, our well-deserved winner, who was proudly presented with the trophy by Grace.
After the competition, everyone enjoyed a relaxed and delicious BBQ lunch — a perfect way to wrap up a fantastic day.
Special thanks to Caroline and Judy for capturing the memories with their wonderful photos!

Call for Committee Volunteers
Due to recent changes within the company, a few of our valued committee members have moved on to pursue new career opportunities. As a result, we’re currently looking for additional support on our committee, particularly with secretarial tasks.
If you have relevant experience, are looking to gain some, or know someone who might be interested in volunteering a few hours a week, we’d love to hear from you. Please feel free to reach out to either myself 0402726996 or Judy 0490816288 at the club.
Thank you for your support!

***EXPIRED MARINE FLARES***
Recently I have received several enquiries regarding the disposal of Marine Flares.
If your flares are expired you can take these (not commercial quantities) to Whyalla & Pt Lincoln Police Stations. It is not required to ring them first but it is required to have them in strong plastic or a container. Any loose caps or ends should be taped with insulation tape. This will protect you & the Police.
