🌏 WCC Junior Heading Overseas Again 🇦🇺

A big congratulations to Kane Azzopardi, who has once again been selected to represent Australia and is heading to Malaysia next week to compete.

Backing up last year’s opportunity, this is a great reflection of Kane’s continued hard work, development, and commitment to the sport. It’s no small achievement to be selected at this level, let alone do it again.

We’re proud to see a Whyalla Cycling Club junior representing on the international stage.

All the best over there, Kane — race hard, enjoy the experience, and do us proud 👊

WCC is behind you.

🚴‍♂️ WCC Road Season – Round 1 This Saturday 🚴‍♀️

We’re kicking off the WCC road season this Saturday and it’ll be great to see a few faces back out on the road.

We’ll have both competitive and social groups riding the same course, so whether you’re keen to race or just want a steady roll with your usual crew, you’re more than welcome.

No pressure — just a good chance to get out, have a ride, and be part of the day.

☕ After the ride

We’ll head back to the clubrooms for morning tea, with $5 covering tea, coffee, and a spread of food (sausage rolls, pies, pasties, cakes and pastries).

Stick around for a chat — it’s always a good way to catch up and ease into the season.

We’re looking forward to getting things going again and seeing where the season takes us.

Hope to see you there 👍

🚴‍♂️ WCC Road Season 2026 – Program Released 🚴‍♀️

The Whyalla Cycling Club road season is locked in and ready to go.

This year we’re taking a structured, sustainable approach with a fortnightly schedule, based on volunteer availability and current participation levels. If we see strong and consistent numbers, we’ll move quickly toward weekly racing — but that starts with turnout.

Most events will run on Saturday mornings, giving us the best opportunity to build consistent participation across the club. We understand it won’t suit everyone, but this format gives us the strongest chance to get momentum back.

Social riders are encouraged to be part of the day. You’re welcome to ride the same course in your own groups alongside the competitive field — no pressure to race, just an opportunity to be involved and support the club.

After each event, we’ll head back to the clubrooms for morning tea, with a $5 donation covering tea, coffee, and food including sausage rolls, pies, pasties, cakes, and pastries. The canteen will also be open.

We’ve also included two Saturday afternoon events to trial a different format, featuring a sausage sizzle and AFL on the big screen — something a bit more relaxed to see how it compares.

We’re also open to expanding the calendar with out-of-town rides like Pichi Richi and come-and-try days, but again, that will come down to participation.

At the end of the day, the program is there — now it’s up to us as a club to get behind it. The more people that show up, the more we can build this into something bigger.

Check out the full program below and we’ll see you out there.

🚴‍♂️ Whyalla Cycling Club – New Committee Announcement 🚴‍♀️

Following our recent AGM, we’re proud to introduce the new Whyalla Cycling Club committee.

This group brings a mix of experience, fresh ideas, and a genuine passion for cycling and our community. More importantly, there is a shared commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive club, one that supports all riders, whether you're racing, training, or just out to enjoy the social side of the sport.

As a committee, our focus is clear:
• Growing participation, particularly juniors
• Creating more opportunities for both social and competitive riders
• Building a stronger club culture on and off the bike
• Increasing visibility and engagement within the Whyalla community

This is a new chapter for WCC. We’re not here to do things the way they’ve always been done, we’re here to move the club forward.

To our members and the broader community, your support matters. Get involved, come down for a ride, and be part of what we’re building.

More updates, events, and initiatives to come soon.

A Message from the Whyalla Cycling Club President

I’m not sure I really have the words for today.

To everyone who rode, volunteered, stood along the streets, or came down to the velodrome, thank you. What the Whyalla community showed today for Fritz was something incredibly special, and something I don’t think any of us will forget.

A big thank you as well to SA Police for their support in helping us run the ride safely.

Today was powerful. It showed what this Whyalla community is capable of when people come together. But at the same time, we all know the reason why we were there.

Fritz loved being out on his bike. Like so many of us, the road is where we spend our time, training, clearing our heads, doing what we love.

Those roads are something we all share.

So please moving forward, let’s just look after each other out there a little more. Give each other space. Be patient. Be aware. That goes for everyone, whether you’re on a bike or behind the wheel.

The way WCC and Westies came together today as a Community was something really special, and it’s something we want to build on.

This won’t be a one-off. We’ll be bringing this ride back each year not only to remember Fritz, but to keep building the awareness so something like this doesn’t happen again.

Let’s carry today with us.

🚴‍♂️ Track Racing Update 🚴‍♀️

Track racing scheduled for this Friday night has been cancelled as we prepare for Saturday’s community ride in honour of Fritz.

Unfortunately, this cancellation also brings our 2025 track season to a close. Next week, a number of our junior riders will be representing Whyalla and South Australia at the Australian Track Championships in Brisbane, and we wish them the very best.

It’s been an interrupted season with challenging conditions including high temperatures, strong winds and volunteer availability, but we sincerely thank everyone who has contributed — riders, volunteers and supporters — for their efforts throughout the year.

We know this is an emotional time for many in our community. We look forward to coming together this Saturday to honour Fritz.

We will also be announcing our newly appointed committee for 2026 in the coming weeks as we move forward together.

Thank you all for your understanding and ongoing support.
