This morning I was washing a pile of muddy jumpers from our wet Auskick session when a message came through.

It was a video of one of our Auskickers proudly showing a drawing he'd done. The picture was of three people holding hands. His mum, his dad (Coach Ryan), and Coach Dan. As he held it up, he explained it simply: "Everyone that teaches me the most."

In that moment, the jumpers, the emails and all the little jobs that come with running Auskick felt a lot less important.

So much of running Auskick can feel like registrations, organising volunteers, washing jumpers, setting up drills and packing everything away again. But moments like this are a reminder that it's about something much bigger.

It's about kids feeling supported. Feeling included. Building confidence. Having trusted people around them. Learning that footy is about more than kicking a ball.

As you know, I've decided not to continue as coordinator next season. Moments like this morning remind me just how special this program is and the impact it can have on our young people.

A huge thank you to Coach Dan and Coach Ryan. The time, energy and care you put into our Auskickers each week goes far beyond teaching footy skills. This special drawing was a reminder of that.

We have a couple of important dates coming up for our Auskickers:

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ Saturday, June 20 โ€“ Auskick Match Opportunity
๐Ÿ“ Milawa Football Ground

Our Whorouly Auskick stars will take on Milawa Auskick in a special match at half-time of the senior football game.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the kids to enjoy a game against another Auskick centre and experience playing in front of a crowd.

๐ŸŽ‰ Thursday, June 25 โ€“ Final Auskick Session

Our final Auskick session for the season will be held on Thursday, June 25. Following the session, we'll head inside for a quick presentation and dinner to celebrate a great season and the efforts of all our Auskickers.

We look forward to seeing everyone at both events and finishing off the season together

A reminder that Whorouly Auskick is still on tonight from 5:00โ€“6:00pm, despite the long weekend!

Forecast: 8 degrees and rain.
Translation: Elite footy conditions ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฅถ

Thereโ€™s no better way to build resilience than chasing a footy around in the cold and rain.
Kids will have a blast โ€” just make sure they bring warm clothes for afterwards.

And to top it off, roast beef rolls will be available after Auskick for dinner ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŒฏ

28/05/2026

After a number of rewarding seasons, Dan and I have decided that 2026 will be our final year as Coach and Coordinator of the Whorouly Auskick program.

We are incredibly proud of what this group has achieved and grateful for the support from our players, families and community along the way.

As we look ahead to the 2027 season, we are now seeking enthusiastic people to step into these roles and help continue building the program into the future.

If you are interested in becoming involved as Coordinator or coach, we would love to hear from you. Please reach out for a chat.

Last Thursday we popped all the kidsโ€™ names into a container for our Motherโ€™s Day hamper giveaway, and one of our newest little Auskickers, Jack, drew out the winning name ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ
Little legend Rex got to take home the beautiful hamper for his mum! We hope she enjoyed it and everyone had a wonderful Motherโ€™s Day.

Please note that the Whorouly Lions have a bye this week, so the senior club will be training in Wangaratta. Because of this, there will be no dinner after Auskick this Thursday.
