Both para ice hockey and inclusive skating are high priorities for the new twin sheet ice sports centre in Tuggeranong. It is not possible to introduce these types of new ice sports without sufficient ice time, safe facilities, and of course, coaching/organisation ... all of which we hope will be much easier to achieve in a new facility.

You'd be hard pressed to accept the community's best interests are being served when negotiations around a new proposal for the twin-sheet ice sports facility, which is asking the ACT Government for yet more money, are called "commercial-in-confidence". The negotiations also involve demands for a new block of land! And who knows what else? Read our take on the ACT Government's response to our petition calling for: greater transparency; prioritising the interests of the Tuggeranong and Canberra ice sports communities; and assurances the government would remove unnecessary red tape to ensure no further delays. The 10 year anniversary since we started on this journey is fast approaching. And it it feels like we're still skating on (very) thin ice.

It takes a village, even in the ice sports. There are ACT examples of just this sort of multi-generational commitment to our activities on and off the ice among some of these sports: broomball to ice skating, curling to ice hockey, and speed skating to para hockey/inclusive skating.

The new generation is here! Attending the ISCNSW AGM are our Canterbury Juniors now all grown up and ready to see the next chapter unfold in hockey with the reopening of COIR later this year.

Throughout their time with CIHC they have achieved milestones such as National & International Representation, ECSL & AIHL drafting, Coaching and Officiating, alongside volunteering and being a part of our community. Friendships that will have life long memories.

The ACT Broomball Association is one of Australia’s longest established broomball organisations actively developing and growing the sport in Australia. Their teams regularly compete in national championships, and many Canberra players have represented Australia in international championships. A new twin-sheet ice sports facility in Tuggeranong will help to expand broomball’s programs, as well as one day having the opportunity to host major showcase events. Like this!
