Message from President Greg Trethowan.
What an amazing night had at the west Wyalong rodeo. With over 1500 spectators and 280 competitors it sure was a night to remember. As everyone is well aware it’s not easy to put together a rodeo and we did it! All of this would not have been possible with out the help of the committee, the sponsors, the volunteers and of course my family.
Gates opened at 2pm with the bus run, canteen and bar in full swing. I would like to thank the Men’s Shed for organising the parking, The lions club for manning the gate, my wife Debbie and daughter Katie for managing the canteen along with my granddaughter Kilarny, my grandson Toby, Amelia and Volunteers assisting on the night. My son in law Mick and Ryder for cooking the BBQ and helping with the canteen. A shout out to my Bar Duo my granddaughters Belle and Mia for managing the bar along with their helpers Chloe, Phoebe and Michelle. And how great was it having Zac donate his time and the West Wyalong Union Club donating their bus for a free bus run to and from the rodeo grounds. A huge Thank you to Johan and Marina for making sure there was eftpos and money for all of this to happen plus everything else you do behind the scenes.
The rodeo started at 2.30pm where the competitors started to show off their talents. This is not possible without our volunteers, a shout out to our time keepers Darcy, John and Keith who were right by the judges side all night keeping up with the times. A huge thank you to Rod Lemon who took the time out with his quick hands to open the chute for every time event stock that went into the arena. And who could not forget my grandsons Macauley, Jesse and Tyler who battled it out in the arena raking around those barrels and helping sort out the cattle.
Running a little behind schedule the Main Events started at 5.30pm where all the thrills and spills were to take place. Again this cannot happen without the help of our volunteers. A huge thank you to my son Luke, Lachy and Meachy for running back and forth on their feet from unsaddling horses to bringing up stock, from bulls to Broncs to steers. While I mention steers a massive shout out to Ryan Wallace for the donation of stock for our Juvenile Steer ride and as everyone would agree this is a great donation and the stock did not disappoint. Thank you to Ryan and Mia for carting these in and out.
A huge thank you to my daughter Elise, granddaughter Lila and Lachy for organising the office and making sure every competitor, judge and arena crew knew where to be and had everything they needed. This all ran smoothly.
Thank you to all our competitors, stock contractors, arena crew and spectators for travelling and making the rodeo possible. With fuel costs these days this is not just looked over. And wow our sponsors an amazing response from our local community businesses wanting to support events like these. They cannot happen without you.
Lastly I would like to thank my Commitee. We are a small committee that work very hard to make all our events possible. My vice president Darcy Brewer, Secretary Elise Trethowan, Treasurer Johan Uys and my committee members Lachlan Glabbatz, Marina Uys, Mia Lancaster, Ralph Nicholson and Jordan Spargo. All of these people helped leading up to the rodeo, during the rodeo and after the rodeo and are still going. I couldn’t be more greatful for everyone’s contribution to this amazing event. Thank you.
