**1,250 DAYS.**
That’s how long Norman Griffiths Oval has been closed.
After all the delays, all the cost increases and all the arguments, Council finally commissioned an independent report to tell us how to move forward.
And now we have the answer.
Best-practice natural turf: **$24.2m–$24.3m**
Synthetic turf: **$24.4m**
Almost the same cost. But not remotely the same outcome.
Council’s independent report says natural turf **DOES NOT meet existing registered player demand**.
Synthetic provides **“the largest capacity sports field”** and more closely aligns with that demand.
And Council has separately investigated an additional **$5.48m** of upgrades to Mimosa and Auluba to increase natural-turf capacity across other fields which still doesn't meet the needs.
So here’s the question:
**Why would anyone vote to spend almost the same money on a solution that doesn’t meet the requirement?**
And before doing so, perhaps there’s another question worth answering:
**Does Council actually have the experience, specialist skills and equipment required to maintain the high-performance natural surface being proposed?**
After 1,250 days, surely we’ve learnt one thing: Choose the solution that actually solves the problem.
