2350nm in 9 days 9 hours. Fatjax crossed the Indian Ocean from Cocos Keeling to Mauritius without incident and in good time, with a daily average of 250nm sailed. We secured line honours and first place in Class A corrected.

Conditions for this crossing suited us well - a reach practically the whole way, with following seas and 20-30 knots of breeze. Sail plan was low maintenance, using only the main and jib 90% of the passage. AWA between 95-115 degrees - Fatjax was in her sweet spot, perfectly balanced, fully powered up and sailing like a rocket.

Sailing a performance cruiser around the world is an absolute joy. After weighing anchor, our floating caravan quickly transforms into a sporty offshore beast, hungry for miles! The boats ability to comfortably bash out consecutive 250+nm days makes the whole experience rather exhilarating at times. This passage reminded us how grateful we are to be sailing Fatjax around the world!

Exploring Cocos Keeling. These island atolls were a tropical paradise and reminded us of time spent in the Pacific. We enjoyed the white sand beaches, clear water and slow pace island life. Schools of friendly black tip sharks swam around the boat which was a joy to watch.

We re-provisioned here as best we could and prepared for the next leg: a 2350nm sail to Mauritius.

Christmas Island! An enchanted and quirky place, sometimes known as the ‘Galapagos of the Indian Ocean’ thanks to its multitude of endemic species, most famously the red crabs who annually migrate across land to the sea!

We enjoyed touring the island, seeing the crab migration road bridges, birds, trees and other wildlife. Experiencing the mix of Asian and Australian culture on this tiny island was interesting, especially considering we’d just come from Australia via Indonesia.

After a busy few days on the island, we were excited to depart and make way for Cocos Keeling, another Australian territory in the Indian Ocean and tropical paradise!

Arriving into Australia was a major milestone - Fatjax had crossed the Pacific Ocean!

After a very warm welcome, we spent several days/nights celebrating with friends on the rally.

We enjoyed seeing the sights and getting used to civilisation again. After a busy few weeks in Mackay, we made the short hop to the Keswick Island for some R&R in an idyllic setting with some fantastic people. Thanks to for your hospitality.

Fatjax spent a week or so in Port Vila, capital of Vanuatu. The WARC fleet were moored together stern to alongside the harbour wall and there was a real village community buzz about the place!

We busied ourselves with boat jobs and a lot of socialising over the week. Of note was a rum tasting evening on Fatjax, sampling Iain’s famously delicious and potent rum punch. Thanks for the photos.

After re-provisioning and clearing out of the country - we set sail again. Destination: Australia!
