A huge congratulations to Kiara, who earned her yellow and white belt last month! 🟡⚪️

Kiara joined Five Rings in 2019 at just three and a bit years old, making her one of our youngest-ever students. From the very beginning, she has shown a genuine love for Jiu-Jitsu and an eagerness to learn.

Since then, Kiara has continued to excel both on and off the mats. She has achieved outstanding results at multiple local and state level competitions while consistently improving her technique, confidence, discipline and understanding of Jiu-Jitsu.

What makes Kiara such a pleasure to teach is her attitude. She is always asking questions, listening carefully and willing to give her absolute best even when training becomes difficult. This promotion represents and reflects years of dedication, courage, consistency and personal growth.

It has been a privilege to watch Kiara grow into the talented young martial artist she is becoming.

Enjoy the level up! Keep asking questions, keep working hard and most importantly enjoy the journey! We are all incredibly proud of you, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for you!

Last month we had the honour of promoting our oldest student Jeff, who earned his blue belt at the youthful age of 68!!

Seven years today.

This place started as just an idea: a deep love for Jiu Jitsu and the lifestyle behind it. A pull toward the craft, the details, the quiet lessons, and a belief that if it was taught with care and honesty, it would find its people. Over time, that passion turned into something real - a second home for many of us.

I’ve seen kids grow in confidence, adults push through limits they didn’t think were possible, and families become part of something bigger than just training. Jiu Jitsu, when practiced honestly, becomes more than a sport. It becomes a shared language built on effort, respect, discipline, and the choice to keep showing up, even on the hard days.

Jiu Jitsu has a way of revealing who you are. It strips things back, rewarding patience, humility, and consistency. You don’t fake your way through it; you earn everything. Every round, every lesson, every small step forward adds up over time.

It gives back to you what you give to it.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Phil Grapsas for another eventful seminar last week, and it was an absolute privilege to have him back on the mats with us.

As always, the seminar was excellent — full of sharp detail, practical concepts, and Jiu Jitsu centred around connection, pressure, and efficiency.
A big thank you to Phil for making the time to come down, share his knowledge, and raise the level of the room, and also to John Smallios for his support and for being part of the night.

It was a great day of training followed by an even better evening, where we had the opportunity to recognise the continued growth of our students through Jiu Jitsu.

Phil Grapsas Seminar Tomorrow!

We’re excited to welcome Phil Grapsas from Leverage Jiu Jitsu tomorrow for or a special seminar and night on the mats once again.
A third degree black belt under Master Pedro Sauer, Phil brings a clear, practical approach to Jiu Jitsu, and his ability to break things down always makes for a valuable session for everyone involved.

Alongside the seminar, we’ll also be recognising the progress of several of our students with promotions on the night. These moments reflect consistency, effort, and time spent showing up — and they’re always something the whole team comes together to support.

Please note that we’ll be running a different timetable tomorrow, with no kids classes scheduled, to allow the evening to focus on the seminar and grading.

Expect a focused session, great energy on the mats, and a strong sense of community as we train together and support our teammates taking the next step in their journey.
