Watching underwater rugby and playing it are two very different things.

From the pool deck, you see people diving and surfacing. Once you’re in the water, you start noticing the passes, the space around you and where your teammates are moving.

That’s when the game starts to make sense.

Some sports are better experienced than explained. This is definitely one of them.

Most underwater rugby matches are played in pools that are 3.5 to 5 metres deep.

That depth gives players enough space to dive, pass and defend beneath the surface while keeping the game fast and dynamic.

Training pools can vary depending on the facilities available, but official competitions are played within this depth range to ensure consistent playing conditions.

It's another reason why underwater rugby is unlike any other team sport.

Underwater rugby builds on those skills with teamwork, strategy and quick decision making beneath the surface.
