Exercise is essential for our well-being and invaluable for our mental health. Despite this fact, many people fear or dislike exercise. We get it – the thought of exercise can automatically conjure up ideas of harsh, military-style training, discomfort, pain and stress.

But, what if we told you that our exercise physiologists design programs that are tailored for you. This might be as simple as standing up unsupported from a sitting position or a gentle walk.

No matter how old you are or your level of fitness, our team of experts will find the right exercise for you.

Whether you’re rehabilitating, need pain relief or suffering from a chronic condition, our accredited exercise physiology team is dedicated to your recovery.

Today’s theme is move and improve. And we LOVE this one (okay, maybe we’re a little bit biased!).

Moving regularly and living an active lifestyle is one of the best ways to take care of your body and mind. It’s a key component of women’s health.

Despite all the benefits, 59% of Aussie women are insufficiently active.

We want to change that.

Each woman has different roles at home, at work, and recreationally and therefore has different physical needs. Staying active throughout all stages of life is one of the best ways to prevent chronic conditions and look after your physical and mental health.
This week, we encourage you to find time to move your body often and in a way that makes you happy!

Today’s theme is Menopause Matters. So, let’s talk about menopause and exercise.

Menopause is usually a natural process defined as the permanent end of menstruation.

Exercise can help with optimising long-term health after menopause – including maintaining bone mineral density and reducing the risk of osteoporosis or osteopenia, reducing cardiovascular risk factors, maintaining a healthy weight range, pelvic floor health and improving balance.

It can also help with:
👉🏽 Hot flushes and night sweats
👉🏽 Improved mental health
👉🏽 Impaired memory and concentration
👉🏽 Joint pain, headaches, and dizziness
👉🏽 Incontinence
👉🏽 Maintenance of bone mineral density
👉🏽 Reduced risk of developing cardiovascular disease
👉🏽 Improved insulin sensitivity (reducing risk of diabetes)
👉🏽 Improved quality of sleep
👉🏽 Increased quality of life

Before beginning an exercise program, we recommended that postmenopausal women have their pelvic floor strength assessed by a women’s health exercise physiologist, regardless of if you have had previous pregnancies, vaginal deliveries or a hysterectomy.

If pelvic floor dysfunction is suspected, exercise prescription will aim to minimise increases in intra-abdominal pressure and avoid strain being placed upon the pelvic floor organs and muscles to reduce the risk of pelvic organ prolapse or incontinence.
