A huge congratulations to Warwick Redbacks juniors Scarlett Clarkson and Issac Kuhn, who proudly represented Darling Downs at the Under 12 AFL State Championships in Cairns last week.

Scarlett was honoured with the role of captain of the Darling Downs girls team and led from the front throughout the carnival. Her ferocious tackling, explosive breakaway speed from contests and ability to bring her teammates into the game were a joy to watch. To cap off a fantastic week, Scarlett and her teammates were awarded the prestigious King Koker Award for Spirit and Sportsmanship, a testament to the way they represented their region throughout the championships.

Issac also enjoyed a strong carnival, appointed vice captain of the boys, he worked tirelessly for his team and made valuable contributions across the week. His determination, effort and team-first attitude were on display in every match as he proudly represented both Darling Downs and the Warwick Redbacks.

We are incredibly proud of both Scarlett and Issac for their achievements and the way they represented our club on the state stage. With plenty of football still ahead of them, both are already hungry to return and go again at next year’s carnival.

Well done Scarlett and Issac! 🏉❤️💙

SOUTHS REDBACKS WOMEN
Round 7 Match Report

The Souths Redbacks Women took on the Toowoomba Tigers on the weekend, showing plenty of determination and resilience despite going down 15.6 (96) to 3.2 (20).

The Redbacks were challenged from the outset by a strong Tigers team, but they refused to take a backward step. The visitors opened their account in the first quarter with a goal and a behind, competing hard around the contest and trailing 24-7 at the first break.

The second quarter saw the Redbacks continue to battle fiercely, adding another major to their tally. While the Tigers were able to build on their lead, the Redbacks continued to apply pressure and create opportunities, heading into half-time trailing 43-13.

The Tigers gained momentum in the third quarter, but the Redbacks never stopped working. Strong defensive efforts and a willingness to keep contesting every ball ensured the side remained committed despite the scoreboard pressure, with the Tigers leading 75-13 at the final break.

To their credit, the Redbacks finished the game with plenty of spirit. The side added a goal and a behind in the final quarter, rewarding their persistence and effort. The team continued to support one another and compete right until the final siren, eventually finishing with 3.2 (20).

While the result didn’t go their way, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance. The Redbacks showed grit, determination, and a willingness to keep fighting throughout all four quarters against a quality Toowoomba Tigers side.

The Souths Redbacks Women have a well-earned bye next weekend and will use the opportunity to refresh before returning to action in round 9.

Criterion Hotel Warwick Redbacks Men’s Round 7 Match Report
Ben Brooks Memorial Cup 2026

Today was about much more than football.

The annual Ben Brooks Memorial Cup gives both the Warwick Redbacks and South Burnett Saints the opportunity to honour and remember Ben Brooks, a young man who showed incredible courage throughout his battle with a serious illness and throughout his football journey.

This year’s occasion was especially emotional following the recent passing of Ben’s father, Darryl. Darryl was a passionate supporter of both clubs and would have been incredibly proud to see the way the football community came together once again to celebrate Ben’s Day.

With only 14 Redbacks making the long trip to Kingaroy, a huge thank you goes to Scott and Ben, who pulled on the Redbacks guernsey to ensure we could take 16 players onto the field against a Saints side with 17.

Despite the challenge, the Redbacks were outstanding in the opening half and trailed by just a goal at the main break after one of the club’s grittiest efforts of the season.

Kobee Lee set the tone early with enormous tackling pressure and was rewarded with a brilliant goal. Not to be outdone, his father Danny also made the most of his opportunity and converted a major of his own.

Connor Lloyd was simply relentless throughout the day. His clearance work, pressure around the contest, and willingness to compete never wavered while also adding a long set-shot goal to the scoreboard. Connor was deservedly awarded the Players’ Player award.

Jack Drewery continued his outstanding season, producing a huge effort across four quarters. His repeat efforts in the final term were a highlight and he capped off his performance with a classy snap goal. Jack’s determination, resilience, and team-first attitude saw him awarded the prestigious Ben Brooks Medal, a fitting recognition of the spirit Benny embodied.

The goal of the day belonged to Luke Giacca, who burst from the centre square and launched a stunning goal from beyond 50 metres. Luke, Connor, Jack, and Rixo all spent the day battling through the midfield and left absolutely nothing in the tank.

Down back, Augustus MacDade was outstanding, repeatedly repelling Saints attacks and providing plenty of drive from defence. Alongside him, Jack Fletcher competed courageously all day and was deservedly awarded Best Player by the opposition.

Unfortunately, the game became even more difficult when Kobee Lee was forced from the field with injury during the third quarter, leaving the Redbacks with just 15 players against 17 for the remainder of the contest.

While the Saints eventually ran away with the game, the scoreboard doesn’t tell the full story of the effort shown by every player who wore the Redbacks guernsey today. To be just one goal down at half-time while outnumbered was a remarkable effort and a reflection of the character within this group.

A massive thank you to our volunteers Dave, Clarkey, and Jake for making the three-hour trip and supporting the club, along with all of our supporters who travelled to Kingaroy and helped make the day so special.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone involved in honouring Ben and Darryl Brooks. Their legacy continues to bring our football communities together each year.

After a strong three-week stretch that has produced two wins and a narrow loss, the girls are beginning to find their rhythm and build confidence. With connections forming across every line and belief growing within the group, the Redbacks will be looking to turn the tables on the Tigers and continue their impressive development.

While the scoreboard wasn’t kind to the Redbacks in Round 6, there were plenty of positives to take away. The boys’ effort, pressure and attack on the footy never wavered, and they’ll be looking to bring that same intensity into this week’s clash.

The Redbacks claimed the points when these sides met in Round 3 and will be eager to repeat the dose against the Saints. With plenty still to play for in the second half of the season, expect a determined Warwick outfit ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work.

💙❤️ Two massive road trips. Two huge opportunities.

Get around the Redbacks this weekend and cheer the boys and girls on as they look to bring home four points!

🏉 Round 6 Match Reports 🔴🔵

The Souths Redbacks Women made the trip to Kingaroy in Round 6 looking to extend their winning streak after an impressive fortnight of football.

In a tough, hard-fought contest, scoring opportunities were at a premium for both sides. The Redbacks worked tirelessly around the contest and generated several forward entries, but neither team was able to capitalise on their chances in the opening half. The Saints took a slender one-point lead into the main break after an arm wrestle of a first two quarters.

The home side found another gear after halftime, kicking the first major of the match to establish a 10-point advantage heading into the final term. The Redbacks continued to battle and had an early opportunity to put pressure back on the Saints but could only manage a behind. The Saints eventually sealed the contest with their second goal of the afternoon.

Despite the result, there were several standout performances for the Redbacks. Stacey Lamb continued her outstanding start to the season, attacking the contest with trademark ferocity and working tirelessly up and down the ground all day. Tegan Lamb was influential rotating through the ruck and forward line, giving her midfielders first use at stoppages while also registering her first AFL point. The Redbacks also welcomed debutant Lily Bredhauer, who was plucked from the polocrosse field and showed natural football instincts from the outset. Playing a utility role across multiple positions, Bredhauer adapted quickly to the game and impressed with her willingness to compete.

While the scoreboard didn't reflect their effort, the Redbacks never stopped fighting and will take plenty of positives from another determined team performance.

Final Score
South Burnett Saints 2.5.17 defeated Souths Redbacks 0.1.1

The women return to Toowoomba in Round 7 when they take on the Toowoomba Tigers.

The Criterion Hotel Warwick Redbacks faced arguably the toughest road trip in Queensland football on Saturday, travelling to Goondiwindi to take on the Hawks in Round 6 of the Allied Cup.

Taking the field with just 13 Warwick players, the Redbacks produced a courageous opening quarter and refused to be intimidated by the challenge ahead. Their pressure around the contest was outstanding early as they forced the Hawks wide and controlled large periods of play through the corridor.

Connor Lloyd delivered a pinpoint pass inside 50 to Shane Iles, who converted truly to kick the Redbacks’ first major. Remarkably, with just over three minutes remaining in the opening term, Warwick trailed by just five points and looked right in the contest.

Unfortunately, the game swung dramatically from that point. The Hawks piled on six goals in the next seven minutes of play, to seize control of the match before adding another three majors to head into halftime with a commanding 10.11.71 to 1.0.6 advantage.

With limited rotations available, the Redbacks continued to battle bravely throughout the second half. The Hawks were able to rotate fresh players through the midfield all afternoon, while Warwick’s midfield and defensive group shouldered a tremendous workload.

A dominant third quarter saw the Hawks add 10 unanswered goals, but to the Redbacks’ credit, they never stopped competing. In the final term, Warwick’s 13 players, along with five Hawks players who generously pulled on Redbacks guernseys to ensure the match could continue, gave everything they had left in the tank.

Gus Macdade provided a highlight with a well-earned goal, while several missed opportunities late prevented the Redbacks from adding further reward to the scoreboard. The Hawks eventually ran out winners 23.19.157 to 2.3.15.

Despite the result, there were plenty of individual performances to admire.

Shane Iles was outstanding across half-back, finishing with a game-high 25 disposals. Anthony Rixon (18 disposals, 5 marks), Connor Lloyd (16 disposals, 5 marks) and Luke Giacca (15 disposals, 6 tackles) worked tirelessly through the midfield under enormous pressure all day.

The big men also stood tall, with Jack Drewery recording 11 hitouts and seven tackles, while Gus Macdade battled manfully with 18 disposals, 10 hitouts and a goal. Young Ryan Clark continued his impressive development, taking a strong contested mark and using the football well throughout the afternoon.

The Hawks dominated the centre clearances 20-5, placing Warwick’s defence under relentless pressure, but the effort and resilience shown by the Redbacks never faded.

The Round 6 Criterion Hotel Players’ Player Award was presented to Luke Giacca, whose toughness and determination at the contest epitomised the spirit shown by the group.

The Redbacks hit the road again in Round 7 for the Ben Brooks Memorial Game against the South Burnett Saints in Kingaroy, while the Souths Redbacks Women return to Rockville Oval to take on the Toowoomba Tigers.

Get down and support both our teams as they look to bounce back in Round 7!
