Cool sunny weather and a dewy but quickish green greeted the 42 players that joined us today for the Southern Cross $300.00 .
The first round of twelve ends saw some very different scores hit the results board with scores ranging from a high of 28 to a low of 5.
The traditional $300 day lunch of beef and salad followed and appetites satisfied, the second round got under way.
A light breeze had come in and the green had dried and was running a little quicker than the first round which perhaps suited many players more. This was reflected in a more even spread of scores in the second round with a top score of 24 and a low of 4. After a short break while the scorecards were checked and scores ratified, the winners and runners-up for the day were announced and presented with their prizes.
Winners of the day, with 42 points was the team of Maria Braun, Ray Southee and Nat Kumseewad - Photo 1.
In a really tight finish the team with 37 points and runners-up for the day were Kevin Mooney, Linda Hartley and Barb Cross with one point to spare. Photo 2.
Thanks to all who joined us again today, we greatly appreciate your company. Thanks also to Matt Shepherd for yet another great green, to the ladies of the kitchen and the BBQ maestro Joe Torrisi for the preparation of the food. Thanks also to Barry Ziebell for filling in so well for the legendary “Whispering Pete” Klowss behind the bar. We missed you Pete so just take your time, recover properly and we’ll see you back behind your bar soon. See you on the green again soon!

14 PLAYERS AND TWO SPECIAL GUESTS MAKE FOR A GREAT SUNDAY OF SOCIAL BOWLS AT “THE CROSS.”
Near perfect weather for bowls saw 14 players take to the green today for two games of pairs and a game of triples over 20 ends, broken by a BBQ lunch after 10 ends.

In pairs, Matt Shepherd teamed up with Maria Braun against Barry Ziebel and Peter Guy while Sam Cavanagh and Greg Noye did battle with Roger Cavanagh and Paul Brayley.

The triples match up saw Kev Mooney, Aaron Ritchie and new bowler Caitlin Alley, joined by Caitlin’s assistant dog Layla, versus Charlie Ackland, Barry Heffernan and Jacqui Ritchie joined by our honorary member Digger Ritchie.

After the 20 end contests were completed, and all results compiled, the runners-up for the day and each player awarded 2 points for the end of season jackpot were Maria and Matt.
Awarded 3 points each for winning the day were Jacqui, Barry H and Charlie.
All other players were awarded one point and Digger and Layla were awarded lots of pats for their diligent attention, guidance and assistance throughout the 20 ends.
Thanks to all who joined us today, and special thanks to Joe Torrisi for keeping everybody hydrated from behind the bar and for doing his usual sterling job preparing the lunch on his trusty duo of Barbecues.
We look forward to seeing you all again next Sunday for more great company and cameraderie on the green.

COOL AND CLOUDY...BUT WE BEAT THE RAIN!

Yet another full green today for the Southern Cross Turkey Triples under grey skies and a cool breeze. Happily the two rounds of 14 ends were successfully completed with just minutes to spare before light rain set in.
Some tightly fought contests ensued across the two rounds and the results showed this fact with the winners and runners up needing a count back to separate the teams.
In the end, it was the team of Jim Lamb, Peter Ridgewell and Peter Carson that took the major honours, (Photo 1), with Ray Southee, Nat Kumseewad and Trevor Wright (Photo 2) the runners up.
Today's consolation award went to the trio of Graeme Wallace, Wayne Dobbin and Chris Stower. (Photo 3)
Today also saw the CrossPot Draw for June with a $190.00 pot up for grabs by the Lucky Southern Cross Club Member who was there and whose number was drawn. June’s winner was ball number 26…Terry Bandit. (Photo 4) Unfortunately Terry was not present at the draw and so next month's Crockpot jackpots to $200.00. So if you’re a Southern Cross member, you know where to be on the second Wednesday of July for your chance at $200.00.
Thanks to all who joined us today and a special thanks to those who came in as emergency players when some no-shows occurred.
Thanks must also go to the ladies who prepared and served lunch, those who served behind the bar and to Matt for yet another great green.
We hope to see you all again next Thursday 18th June for the Southern Cross $300 day.

Apologies for the lateness of this report. I have been unable to connect Facebook for some hours tonight so this will be a bit short as I am not going to miss the Monaco F1 Grand Prix live from 9.30pm.
Both Special general Meeting and Committee meetings were held today, with the major outcome being a reiteration last year’s commitment not to increase membership fees for this year. They will remain at $120.00 for full members and pro- rata for memberships taken out during the 2026-27 year based on months remaining at point of joining.
There will also be a Junior membership fee of $5.00 (subject to ratification) for those members under 15.
Following the meetings, Social Bowlers took to the green for twenty ends of triples with a break for lunch at 10 ends completed. The winners, and recipients of three points towards the end of season jackpot, was the team of Paul Brayley, Peter Guy and Charlie Ackland. The runners up and earning two points were Maria Braun, Geoff creighton and Kevin Mooney. All others in attendence receive 1 point.
A highlight of the day was the presentation of a Super Veteran’s Badge to Gordon Assay by VP Paul. Congratulations Gordon and great to see you in fine (and cheeky) form this morning.

THE RAIN WAS NEEDED BUT TODAYS WEATHER WAS WELCOME FOR SOCIAL BOWLS AT “THE CROSS.”
While still not perfect the sun was shining, but the wind was tricky once again for our group of social bowlers today.
It was great to see our honorary member Digger Ritchie who brought her humans Jacqui and Aaron with her today, and very good to see Gordon Assay back on the green for at least a good part of a game. Thanks to Pete Klowss for filling in for part of the game.
To the results. In the pairs, Paul Brayley and Charlie Ackland snuck home to win by one point from Kev Mooney and Peter Guy.
In the triples, Matt Shepherd, Gordon Assay and Jacqui Ritchie 32 points had a good win over Barry Heffernan, Aaron Ritchie and Rodger Cavanagh 11.
Today's 3 point recipients are Paul Brayley, Charlie Ackland, Matt Shepherd, Gordon Assay, Jacqui Ritchie and Peter Klowss.
Two points go to Kevin Mooney, Peter Guy, Barry Heffernan, Aaron Ritchie and Rodger Cavanagh, and one point to Barry Ziebel, Geoff Creighton, Bill Lee, Joe Torrisi and of course Digger Ritchie. The end of season jackpot stands at $140.00 and will be at least $200.00 by the 28th June when the points will be tallied and the prize money awarded to the top 3 points scorers for this Social Bowls Series. Social Bowls will be on again next Sunday starting at 11am…look forward to seeing you there.

Coming Events at “The Cross are:- Wednesday June 10th Turkey Triples, Thursday June 18th - The Cross $300.00.
